This was one of my favorites in the series. At the end it was emotional as I knew this was the last book. I can think of a couple books of misc adventures and then write a book about Brian and Susan getting married, having a family and their adventures together. I just don't want it to end.

I haven't yet had a chance to read this book, but I have read all the others in the "Brian" series (I'm 52, but have enjoyed all of them!). Being a fan of Paulsen's books, I have liked all of them very much, and assume that I will like "Brian's Hunt", too.

After I read this book, I'll be better equipped to write a review.

I have read all of these series books except this one. When I saw it listed, I bought it. It was not quite as engaging as the others (Hatchet, The River, Brian's Return, Brian's Winter), but it fit into the series. It was a quick read.

This book was amazing on how Brian came back to the island because he liked it there and thought it was a nice place to relax and soak in nature and everything around him and ignores the bad memories of his injuries by mother nature.

Despite Paulsen’s attempts to draw a leafy curtain over the wilderness adventures of his HATCHET hero, loyal fans pressured him into writing the 5th in this Brian series. At sixteen the youth has returned to the woods for a nostalgic sojourn—this time well equipped with canoe, cook set, adequate clothing, and weapons. He has not broken with his stateside family, but finds life in the civilized world increasingly distasteful. Eager to survive on the skills of the primeval hunter he also hopes to reconnect with an Indian family he met previously.

After rescuing a badly-mauled dog he realizes that he has missed companionship on the trail; new responsibilities to be sure, but her presence reduces his state of isolation. Perhaps they will prove of mutual benefit to each other in an inhospitable wilderness. Brian’s woodsman sense alerts him gradually to a feeling that something is very wrong to the north—where he had planned to travel anyway. After paddling many waterways--not always direct--and fording countless beaver dams he arrives at the island he seeks, but only to find Devastation and Carnage. Brian learns to his grief that human beings are also a part of Nature’s food chain! A quick-read which will captivate youthful readers, while providing valuable lessons in survival skills.

Brian has returned to the wilderness, again. Since his plane crashed in the wilderness of Canada two years ago (HATCHET), he just cannot become neither comfortable nor content with the shallow, empty, noisy life of society. This time, as he canoes along the lakes, he makes a new friend, a wounded dog. As he nurses the dog to health, he as an instinctual fear for his Cree friends in the north. He has learned to depend upon his instincts, so he decides to check on them. He leaves for the north in the canoe with his new friend. Little does he know, he is in for the hunt of his lifetime.

As always, Gary Paulsen tells a simple yet profound tale with his most popular and most loved character, Brian. Short and simple, this story, like his others, has tremendous impact and expresses truths about life in general. I highly recommend this little book!

This is the last book of the Brian's series so I recommend you to read the other one's before reading this one. Brian the boy who survive the plan crash and he mostly lived in the forest when the crash happen, hunting animals with a bow and a hatchet to survive. Until one day he heard and crying dog so he went to the dog and try to help it and he was wondering what have cuss this wound on this dog then he found out that the dog was from the north and one of his new companion was from the north so he went to there island to see if it was their's but instead he found something shocking. I thought that the book was good it have lots of action and in one part Brian had to do quick thinking to try to save a hurt dog and this book is good for people who are 12 and up because this book does have some violence in it. Brian kinda reminds me of my older brother because he is very serious when he is doing something important and Brian is mostly serious when he is hunting.

I could almost imagine myself back to the very day when I first read Hatchet and slept at 1am in the morning: I really thought that deserved a reward, and the story was so nicely put together. Now, even after all those Brian sequels, this short book brings a late sleep to me as well. Though this book's main purpose might have been to let the readers enjoy Brian's visit to his friends, but like any other of his book, he leaves a surprise behind.

In the book, Brian is now a high-schooled student enjoying his wildlife near the rivers on his way to his friends, when he unexpectly meets a wounded dog. Analyzing from her wounds and behavior, he realizes that she is most likely a tamed hound, and judging from her wounds, was attacked by a bear. Trying to overcome the confusion, he nurses her, and hunts for her to recover. He continues to push on to meet his friends, and when he arrives, he finds them all.... Dead.
This book was all based on basic survival like the last book/s but with one difference: he knew what he was doing and where he was: it was not being alone in the wild, hoping to survive; it was more like a brief breeze of the wild. He even had a pro-manufactured bow with all the deadly arrows along. It might be just a walkthrough of all the skills he accomplished on his life, but wait for the ending: he hunt down and kills the bear! (sorry for spoiling, but hey! You must have guessed it from the title, right?)

Gary Paulsen was the author of more than 100 books for adults/young adults. He was also the author of three Newberry honor, Dogsong, Hatchet, and The Winter Room. However, I guess the "Brian" series was the most known one of them all, and if you think so, me too. Me too.

Minnesota-native Gary Paulsen has been one of my favorite middle-grade and YA authors for years. I can't really remember which of his books I first read, but he's written a lot of awfully good ones. His characters are always understandable, real, and - mostly - tied to nature in some ways.

His most iconic figure is Brian Robeson, the star of HATCHET. In that book, Brian was a city kid who ended up crashing into the brush when the pilot of the plane he was in had a heart attack and died suddenly. With only a hatchet - no matches, no sleeping bag, and no supplies, Brian taught himself how to live in the wilderness. His personal growth spread over 54 days, and the book become one of the best-received middle-grade novels ever. If you haven't read it, or your child hasn't read it, you should.

BRIAN'S HUNT is the newest book in the five-volume series. Brian is 16 at the time of this novel, and he's become more certain of himself. He's out on the lakes in Canada, taking his time to get to the Cree American Indian tribe he became friends with during the course of his adventures. He's very much a loner, and has even talked his parents and school into letting him try his hand at home schooling himself.

Paulsen's attention to detail and the ways of nature may prove slow-going to most of today's young readers (unless they're already in love with the series), but you can feel the love the author has for such things. I learned a lot about fishing and hunting during the course of the book, though I intend to do neither, and I could tell my ten year old was filing away details while I read the novel to him.

However, Paulsen always delivers on the action in one of his books, and BRIAN'S HUNT is no exception. Before long, Brian wakes up to find a wounded dog looking for food and for help. Brian gives both, though those scenes are somewhat intense and carry a gross-out factor with them. The scenes are realistic, though, and very well written.

As Brian puts the puzzle of the dog's mysterious wounds together with her behavior as he hunts, it doesn't take him long to realize that the dog was mauled by a bear. Once that discovery is made, Brian learns bad news that sets him into the woods after the bear.

The details of how Brian tracks the bear, the skills and the observation necessary, are great. My son and I stayed glued to the pages, though we couldn't help taking a break every now and again to discuss some facet of hunting lore we hadn't been aware of. Although the material is mature, it's written on a level kids can easily understand it, and it's very honest. But if you have a youngster and you're thinking about letting him or her read this one, you might want to read it yourself first to make sure it meets with your approval and that it won't panic or bother your child.

I'm a big fan of Gary Paulsen's, and this book really hit the spot. At 99 pages long, it's a quick, intense read. Although Paulsen said he'd ended the Hatchet adventures after the publication of the last book, I can't help but be hopeful there will be more. Brian is starting to get interested in a girl, and I want to see how that works out for him.

Brian's Hunt
Gary Paulsen
Random House
Realistic Fiction

This book is so good that you'll beg the author to make another one. Brian's Hunt made possible by Gary Paulsen is an awesome book part of the Hatchet series. In this exciting book Brian who once was lost in the Canadian woods,(and while he was there he changed) decides to go back only having a canoe, fishing supplies, some weapons to kill game, and a little food. While he was there he finds a dog. The dog has a gash in his leg,but Brian fixes it,but the way the gash is Brian can't do any thing but wonder about it. Brian and the dog set out on a adventurer north. Along the way Brian sees things that he will never forget. He discovers a bear is the one who has caused the gash on the dogs leg and all the other disastrous things brain sees. He sets out to kill the bear with the dog and his supplies, but the question is can he do it.

In Brian Hunt there is two main characters Brian and the dog. Brian acts tough in the book. He also acts sad. He uses his strength to hunt, get though the sad times, and kill a wild bear. The dog is also strong, hes sad sometimes, and hes always hungry. But Brian and the dog fight though hard times. Together they make a great team.

The book Brian's Hunt is a book like no other. The thing I like about this book is that he hunts. So I'd recommend it to people that like the out doors. The mood of this this book is so hard to explain because there is so many moods. At one moment he could be happy and then the next he could be sad. If you like Hatchet then you will like this book because they are a part of the same series. I'd recommend this book to people who like to hunt and adventures. I think 4th 5th and 6th graders would like this. Trust me once you pick this book up you won't want to put it down.

Have you ever thought of going into the wilderness by yourself? Well that's what Brian decides to do in Brian's Hunt by Gary Paulsen. This book is 103 pages about a boy named Brian who goes into the wilderness and finds a dog and faces a horrible tragedy.
In the story Brian's Hunt a boy named Brian goes into the wilderness again after having his plane crash and having nothing but a hatchet to survive, but this time Brian has a lot more weapons and supplies. During Brian's journey in the wilderness Brian finds a dog with a nasty cut. Brian tries to figure out what happened to the dog. So one day Brian decides to visit his friend's summer camp. He finds most of them have been killed by a bear. "That must be what gave the dog that cut."Brian thinks. So Brian wants to make the bear pay for what he did to his friends and the dog.
My favorite part of the book is when Brian is hunting down the bear. I like this part because Brian really wants to hurt the bear and so did I.
The most important thing I learned from reading Brian's Hunt was that bears are very strong and they can easily cause harm and even kill people.
Some similar books to Brian's Hunt are Hatchet, Brian's Return, Brian's Winter and The River those are all the books in Gary Paulsen's Hatchet series.
If you like books about hunting and surviving in the wilderness then this is the book for you. So don't walk run to your local library.

Brian's Hunt

By

Gary Paulsen

"He was in his world again. He was back." (pg. 1) Brian was back in the wild, and that is where he felt most at home. T.V., computers, radios - Brian hated technology. Brian was different from most people, and beloved that life should be lived simply. In this fictional novel, Brian travels from his hometown to Arrowhead lake (in Seattle, Washington). School is over, and Brian quickly packs his supplies for his wilderness adventure. Everything is perfect, he's alone and staring into the beautiful night sky as he falls asleep in his canoe. Brian is awakened by the whimpering of a badly injured dog. Brian's perfect trip turns out very bad, as he follows the dog back to where he came from. He finds a campsite with two people murdered. Because Brian is a tracker he quickly realizes that one person (their child) has escaped. Who could have done this? How could the everyday violence invade his world? Brian puts his expert tracking skills to use (and with the help of his new friend - the dog) soon realizes that a bear is responsible for the murders. As Brian confronts the bear, he gets knocked unconscious. When Brian wakes up - he is saved by the very dog that he helped out. Brian understands that you can't do it all alone, sometimes you need some help.

I loved this book, and couldn't wait to begin each chapter. I enjoyed the authors style of writing, it was very descriptive and simple: "He way close in on the lily pads and something moved suddenly in the brush just up the back, rusting through the thick, green foliage, and though it sounded big and made a lot of noise he know it was probable a squirrel or eve a mouse." ( pg. 3)

Brian's Hunt

By: Gary Paulson

"Hang on were going down its all over!" This is the first sentence of Brian's Hunt to save his friends. Before Brian goes he has to make weapons and then get food for the long trip, like deer, bear, and other animals. On his way Brian finds a friend, but it is not a person it's a wolf and now Brian is not as scared and as lonely.

The Main character is the only character and his name is Brian. Brian is very smart when it comes to building things like weapons and shelter. Brian is very strong hearted and believes in himself that he will save his friends and survive. Brian also loves the outdoors, he could stay out there his whole life if he had to. The sad thing is Brian is only 15 years old.

The main theme in Brian's Hunt is survival and trust. Brian has to trust himself and his friend that he will survive and save his friends to go back home. To survive, Brian has to get his own food for him and the wolf. He also has to build a shelter to survive when there is bad weather.

Brian's Hunt mostly takes place in the forest where Brian's plane crashed. This is a big disadvantage because there is a high chance of death. It is very scary for him with all of the animals out there. Brian is also very sad because he has not seen his family in so long. And he is very lonely in the forest.

It was a great book, I liked it a lot! It was the best book I ever read! Will Brian be rescued, will the dog, I hope so. Will Brian save his friends in time or wont he.

I think that this book is very good. Though there are some parts in the book that can be a bit gruesome. This book is mainly about 15 year old brian going back to the wilderness. Unlike in the book Hatchet, this time he doesn't crash in a plane. He goes back to the wilderness because after 47 days in the wilderness from civilization in the book Hatchet he can't stand the city he hates the TV, city lights and anything having to do with the city. Brian brings with him a canoe that's almost bullet proof, dried food and sugar,a container of tea, beans, a small cooking set, a can to make small fires in, salt and pepper, and matches. The back of the book says Brian paused something made him reach out and take a broadhead (A military arrow) And lay it across the bow even though the moment without paddling cost him his forward motion. He thought Im being a worrywart but positioned the bow close to him just the same. Then dug the paddle again pulling hard for the island, the dog whimpering and growling. In the end he seeks out to kill a bear that killed his friends. Again this is a good book and I highly recommend it.

Brian's Hunt tells of Brian's return to the Canadian North. Those who have read Paulsen's stories about Brian before will notice how Brian has matured and developed more confidence in himself as he deals with the wilderness. This story was an engaging read filled with great, detailed descriptions. Paulsen's Brian stories are unique in that the main character Brian while he doesn't always succeed at what he does is a character that thinks and learns from each of his experiences. Brian is a thinker and often introspective. Here is a great example of an individual who understands the need to analyze what he is doing or what is happening to him, provided he is not in imminent danger, in order to improve or change what he is doing.

Probably closer to 3.5*
Very short book but kept my interest and might want to read or listen to the others in the saga.
It was written for a younger audience (CD box says “…listeners ages 10 and up.”) but that does not mean that I did not enjoy it.
I’d recommend it to anyone wanting a short book that moved along or a good audio book for a short road trip.

What if you were a boy that was in the forest since you liked it there, knew how to hunt, and found out that two of your friends were dead? How would you feel? Would you feel scared at what happened? Would you be mad at the killers? Thats how Brian felt.

Brian is a boy who once was in a plane that crashed into the forest and had to survive in the forest. This takes place after his plane crash in the forest.

The main idea of this book is to show how Brian goes into the forest again and finds out that two of his friends are killed. The meaning of the title Brian's Hunt means this is his hunt. He goes on a hunting trip and just lives in the forest for a bit more. Once he finds out his friends have been killed, he starts hunting for the killer.

My opinion of this book is actually an easy read because the font is big and the if you just read you might get through 2-3 chapters. I would recommend this book to 3rd of 4th graders. The pacing of this book is slow in the begining and fast at the end of the book. This book is in a Christian perspective because it doesn't talk about anything demonic or evil.

The book Brain's Hunt was written by the author Gary Paulson, it is the latest book in a series about a boy named Brain Robeson and his adventures in the Canadian North. The main character in Brian's Hunt was a 16 year old boy, Brain Robeson. Earlier in the series he had been away from his family and had learned how to survive in the Canadian wilderness.

In this book, Brian has decided along with his parents that he would home school himself while he was out in the wilderness and come back and take a test to prove that he learned things. While traveling through the country he decides to go see his friends, along the way he meets a dog who accompanies him on his journey up north to solve a mystery.

I found this book to be very interesting because the author wrote a lot of detail about how Brain would survive in the wilderness and solve the mystery of the dog and his friends. I recommend this book as a great summer time read, for all those readers who like books that keep them on the edge of their seats.

Gary Paulsen's writing is very much about nature and man's connection to it. The story of Brian is about a young man who survives a plane crash in the wilderness. There he learns to survive but also finds a sense of belonging and a home to him.

In this story, Brian is back in the wilderness and living with nature. Paulsen's writing is very descriptive and detail oriented. There is some action but it's an easy to follow novella. Young readers and even adults who normally don't read might be attracted to the author's clear writing style as well as simple plot. You get to know more about Brian and his life with nature away from civilization.

My only problem was that I'm not keen on hunting animals in general. I have to say that was my only problem but I guess it's a fact of life in the wilderness for him in Canada.

Brian's Hunt is a wounderful addition to the series by Gary paulsen,I myself like this book better then any other book in the series

.This is the only set of books that has me waiting for the next one to come out .I normaly dont like to read books but when I heard that this book had come out I just had to read it.The one thing I love the most about this book is the way Gary Paulsen writes every little detail ,to some people that may be annoying but I love it ,it makes me able to imagine myself right in the story with Brian which I love and that has never happened to me when I read any other book. The reason i chose the tittle ,Outstanding but not perfect was because there was one thing that I didn't like about the book which was how short it was I mean I understand it's hard to write a book but I would have found this book to be perfect if it was just a little longer.I also loved how Gary paulsen used the real story about how David and Anne get attacked and killed in the end of the story by a bear ,that was a real event that Gary heard about and he wrote that part of the book on that which i just liked I dont know why but I just did .So all in all this is a great book and i recomend it to any one who likes the out doors.

Brian's Hunt was a good book to read considering I can relate to the plot very well. I am from Minnesota and have been to the Boundry Waters Canoe Area a couple of times. It really describes the wilderness and surrounding area that he is in. In the other books it goes through the different seasons in which he survives in the wilderness is very cool.

Brian's Hunt is a good book that has the laid back mentality of Brian but keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the book including the end. The way he writes about the intense moments in the book are very subtle but on edge. The bears play a large role in other books and especially this book. Personally seeing a large black bear while camping relates me to his experiences in which he has during this book. I keep thinking about the plot because of how little he has, he lives very well when in the wilderness. The writing style is very simple and understanding but very discriptive when explaining his thoughts and situations.

I would recommend this book to anybody reading this series to keep continuing to read these books because they all have a strong connection together.

Brian's Hunt by Gary Paulson

Review by "Prince of Persia"

It's the middle of the night and Brian is in the middle of the lake in his canoe. Something wakes Brian up. Though hears nothing, he senses that there is something on the shore of the lake. Something.... but what?

Brian is a boy who has survived the wilderness in the past, and he bravely decides to venture north again. Along the way he mysteriously finds a dog that is lonely, hungry, and hurt. However, when he reaches the Cree camp, he sees no smoke and the dog is nervously shaking.

One of the things that amazes readers is the descriptive language. For example, the author creates a mind picture, which helps you "see" the story. Without the descriptive language it would be difficult to understand the setting. I believe that this book has an enjoyable amount of action. For instance, there is a bear attack scene in the book that is dripping with excitement.

Finally, this is an interesting book because of its suspense. The author writes in such a way that makes you want to read on. The story leads to a scary, surprise ending that will not disappoint the reader!

To sum up, this book a great read because it has action, descriptive language, and suspense. It would be a good idea to read the prequels to better understand the story.

I thought Brian's Hunt was a good book, not greet but good. I found a couple of what I consider flaws but this is just my opinion. One of the flaws I found towards the end was that the book climaxed to quickly. I thought the book ended just fast "Like a snap of the fingers". Another flaw I found was that the setting never really was stated so I assumed it was the same Northern Canadian woods. Other then those minor flaws listed above i liked the book. I hope there will be another coming soon!

Brian after returning to the woods and getting back into the swing of what goes on there decides to finally visit the Smallhornes. But something is a mist when Brian finds an injured dog who he nurses back to heath. Unaware of what comes next Brian with his new companion strode forward.

My book review

Brian's Hunt

By; Gary Paulsen

12-year-old boy

Just think how hard it would be to be in the Canadian wilderness for 2, to 3 years with just only a hatchet and cloths on your back. I would think it would be pretty difficult mentally and physically but Brian persevered in all of his books; Hatchet, Brian's winter, The River, and the book I'm reading Brian's Hunt. In all of them he has struggled and has gotten angry, frustrated, and sad.

Gary Paulsen likes to right realistic fiction like all of the hatchet books including Brian's Hunt. I will tell you about the story Brian crashed in the Canadian wilderness in Hatchet. He learned ways to survive and learned more easy better ways to do stuff over the years. He's not sure of the date but he doesn't care. Brian is tall he has brown hair, and brown eyes, and is intelligent Brian is eating, sleeping, hunting, moving, shooting, listening, and is looking everywhere in this book. Brian also has a dog whose name is Kay-gwa-daush. So back to the story Brian is going to the end of a lake and he sees a cabin. He goes up to the cabin to see what's happing and he hears a noise and the animal comes out of the bushes... find out what happens in Brian's Hunt.

When I read Brians Hunt, I thought I would be like Hatchet, which is a little hard to folllow along with but I found it easy to follow and enjoyable although it was a little,I mean quite a bit more grusome than Hatchet. I loved reading about all the times Brian actd bravely and helped the dog from camp patch up his wound and helped Kay-gwa-daush get back to her siblings after her parents got killed. I enjoyed reading about how Brian couldn't stand the sound of electronics because I could not live without them. If you are reading this review and have not read the book I strongly recomend it to you. I liked how it was deeply detailed and very discriptive.{In certain parts.}

1.Brain is on his way back to Canada to stay with his friends. But on his way he finds a dog, he thought it was a wolf or something else. But when he gets over there it is a dog. He finds that the dog is bad shape, and the dog is starving and it is hurt, a big cut wound is on his side. Brain sews the dog back, and then they head out to find who did it.

2. I think this was a good book. I liked it because i've already the brain books and i liked the series. It has action and aventure, and i like action and aventure.

3. This book has good plot, because it keep me guessing and keeps contiuneing the brain books.

4. Reason for rating would be, it teachs you some hunting skills, action/aventure, and ways to track animals

I have read all the books in this series but not this one. Hatchet, the river, brian's winter and brian's return are all great books. This is my favorite series of books. I am excited to read brian's hunt. In some parts of these books it gets a little gorey. I recommend this book for 10-15 year olds. If you like adventure and survival these books are right for you.

My son loves the HATCHET series, and he's listened to audiobooks for every one (many times!) except this one. He wanted to read the last book in the series, so we began reading this together. Gary Paulsen fans will find lots to like in this last adventure story with Brian, but parents of small kids will want to read the book ahead of time to decide whether their child is old enough to handle to storyline. Brian goes back to the bush, planning to canoe north to see the Smallhorns, but encounters an injured dog first. As the story unfolds, Brian discovers that his friends, David and Anne Smallhorn, have been savagely killed by a bear, which has also killed all of their dogs except one. Their mutilated bodies are described in pretty graphic detail, and it's not the kind of scene that works for all little kids. At seven, my son is probably not ready to think about what his mother would look like if a bear ate most of her. Older kids will be fine, and in fact, Paulsen is trying to show how the wilderness is not a romantic place. I just wish I had known about the storyline before my son and I began reading the book. I am planning to verbally edit those chapters so he can get to the part where Brian hunts down the bear who killed his friends. And this is definitely not a book he'll want to listen to over and over in an audiobook format! As an adult, I find Paulsen's desire to show the violence of the wilderness important, but for kids who have loved reading about Brian, this is kind of a sad ending to the series.

Brian's Hunt by Gary Paulson was a great read for me. I love how it was about a boy surviving in the wilderness on his own. The book was a great length for me, because I like shorter books the best. Brian's Hunt had a twist at the end, which kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Unlike other books I have read, I could relate to this book a lot.

I loved this book, because I am into the outdoors, and hunting. This whole book is based solely on that. When I saw the title of the book, it instantly drew me in. Brian uses his unreal survival skills to survive on his own in the wilderness.

The suspense in the book was awesome, because it keeps you on your toes while you are reading. When I was reading, I was always wondering what was going to happen next. You start to read a lot faster, because of these things.
Brian's Hunt was a short read, but I like shorter books the best. I am a slow reader, so if I have a lot of pages to read I tend to forget what I have read in the past. In shorter books, I remember everything I read. I feel some parts in the book, Gary should have went more in depth on what was happening.

I could really relate to this book, because I love hunting, and being in the outdoors. Gary Paulson's quote in the afterward says, "As to the subject of this story, it is hard to imagine any animal as evil-only man would seem to have a capacity for true evil and deliberate cruelty." This quote reminds me of my father, because he never wants to hurt animals. He hates people a lot more than animals as well. I could also relate to some of Brian's thoughts in the book. I feel like I connected with Brian.

Gary Paulson based some of the parts of the book on real life events. When the bear ate the Cree family; it was based on a real life bear attack in Canada. He says in the afterward, "My wife has been chased from the garden to the house by a bear, which almost caught her." The things in the book about the bear are very realistic, and have actually happened in real life.

I really liked the book Brian's Hunt. It was based on the outdoors, and was quite an adventure. I could relate to Brian in many ways while he was hunting certain animals. The storyline kept me on my toes the whole time reading, due to the suspense. It was a pretty short book, which I liked, because it keeps me more focused throughout the book. If you like hunting, adventures, suspense, and tips on survival, this is the book for you.

Some of the reasons that I liked this book is because of the adventure. Just all the things he had to do and overcome. One of the most things that I like about books like this is that the mystery. You never know what is going to happen or pop out or frighten or scare you.

Most books but not all books gave a surprise ending. I think the surprise ending in this book was the best. One of the other thing I liked about this book is the characters. In some books their are so many characters that you can't remember them all.

I would recommend that anybody who like a adventurous or hunting kind of book, to read this one. I had like this book so much that I went home and couldn't put it down and ended up reading the whole thing.

This book was very good. I love the Brian's series. This book was very interesting and a little better than the other books.

In this book Brian is still trying to find his friends' camp. On the way he finds a dog that got attacked by a bear, the dog is now his pet. Brian finds the camp but notices nothing burning or anything moving. The dog started whimpering and growling as they got closer.

This book gets in better once you get into it more. Thats why I think a lot of people will like it. This was one of the best books he has ever written. I hope you will like it as much as I did.

You will like this book because it is very adventurous. This is a good book because once you get started you can't put it down. I' m a lover of Gary Paulsen's Brian series. Every time a new book comes out I'm always the first person to get it in the library. To understand this book you might have to read the two books before this one to figure out about why he is where he is in this book. This book is about Brian and he is camping and he sees a dog. The dog is wounded and he is having trouble getting up. Brian goes over to see what is wrong and he sees that the dog is hurt. Now Brain is going to hunt for the person or thing that has hurt this dog. The dog also comes with him as his new partner to hunt. Some things that I like about this book is that it is very adventurous. It has a lot of things about what to doing the wilderness when you are camping and something goes wrong. Overall I think that you will love this book about Brian's Hunt.

I though this book was outstanding! That is why I gave a 5 out of 5 stars rating. I got this book in paper from the library so I can't have any complaints about the book on the kindle. I thought this book was outstanding because of the great detail, adventure, and suspense. I thought it was a very cool but scary twist (spoiler alert)when Brian finds the Cree's being eaten by the bear. I hate it when books are so predictable I find it very boring that way. But in this book everything was juicy with excitement! I definitely recommend this book! Another great work by Gary Paulsen!

Brian's Hunt is one of the many books centered on Brian, who has adventures in the Canadian Wilderness. During the summer, Brian sets out in his canoe with the limited supplies that he needs to survive in the wilderness. Before he sets out for the wilderness, he arranges to home school himself, because he was not comfortable in the hustle bustle world of high school. With school no longer an issue, he plans an extended trip through the wilderness camping at lakes along the way. He sets up camp on the edge of lakes so he will have easy access to water and food. He camps from place to place moving north to visit a Cree family that he stayed with earlier that year.

When the time comes to hunt he uses his home made bow & arrow that he made instead of an easier way with a rifle. Brian is all about doing things the natural way from hunting to eating. He only hunts what he can consume feeling it is important to treat nature with respect. The book paints a vivid picture of Brian's means and methods of survival.

One night while sleeping in his canoe he hears a strange noise that awoke him. He searched the shore line looking for who or what made the noise. Finally, after a few minutes of looking, he saw an injured dog at the site were he had eaten dinner. He decided to go ashore and help the dog and, surprisingly, the dog accepts him. As Brian gets closer, he realizes the dog is injured and needs stitches. With great care and much forethought, Brian stitches the dog's wounds. He started wondering where the dog might have come from and why it wasn't with its' owners. He had a bad premonition; he had to find out.

As Brian moved north he brought the dog with him. He needed to know what had happened up north and why the dog was alone. Now that he had the dog he had to hunt for bigger game so he could feed himself and the dog. The author describes Brian's planning and hunting with great detail. It is almost as though you are living the experience.

As he gets closer to where the camp of the family he visited had been, he notices how the woods are quieter. He knew the humans had been here. Once he was close enough he saw the camp, but no fire or people and the door to the cabin was open. He knew that they would not leave the door open. Once he was close enough the smell of blood hit him, he feared the worst. He found bear tracks leading toward the cabin and finally saw the destruction inside the cabin. It had become personal to Brian, he was going to find the bear and kill it no matter what it took him.

You will enjoy reading about Brian's tracking to find the rest of the Cree family and his quest to find the bear responsible for the devastation at the camp. Gary Paulsen writes all the Brain books with great feeling for the wilderness. They are a captivating read for young teens that like the woods and the thought of surviving on their own.

Brian is back in the woods, a dog has joined his quest, and now he is the hunted. Something or someone is stalking him. With the extra senses of the dog-friend, we hope Brian will survive. The ending will haunt you, the message will weasel its way into your conscience--what is our place in nature and how do we make amends for our intrusion and upset of the balance therein. A fine adventure, and it makes the reader proud to have "known" Brian from the beginning.

Brian's Hunt is my favorite book of all of Gary Paulsen's books. I've read all the books in the Brian series.

For me, this book is awesome because I hunt and fish, but I would recommend it to anybody who likes the outdoors.

It is about a boy (Brian) who is spending his summer in Canada trying to go through all of these obstacles to reach his Indian friends. But on the way he finds a dog that belongs to his friends, and he knows something is wrong because it has a big gash in it's side.

You'll have to read the book to find out the surprise ending! It is a real killer! I loved it!

Have you ever wanted to do something but you're too young? Brian's Hunt is about a fourteen year old boy who wants to hunt but he's too young. So he pretends too be a lot older. He chooses to take the hard rough life in the wild wilderness with his friends Randle and Mike. My favorite part is when he got attacked by a bear, but Randle and Mike saved him. I give it four and a half stars. I would say that anyone who likes adventure would like this book.

Brian's Hunt is by far the best book that I have ever read. Its descriptions of details and imagery brings the story to life. This is a must read for anyone from any background. The outdoors is so vividly described it makes you feel like you are actually out in the wilderness. The book is action packed from the very beginning to the closing sentences. The characters are portrayed well and are forced to overcome real life situations out in the wild.

I like Brian's Hunt for many reasons. First, I like the book because it gives a lot detail and I can understand it. Second, I don't really like books but I like this one because this is what I imagine. Last, I like this fiction book because it sounds like it is possible that it could happen. I thought at first that Brian's Hunt was going to be boring but then I read it and it turns out I love this book. So these are great reasons I like Brian's Hunt.

Brian is about 10 years old and because of his last incident with the plane crash he had to survive the dangerous Canadian wilderness for many months in Paulson's first book, Hatchet. Six years later in Brians Hunt, Brian can't stand living in the city anymore. He decides to moves into the wilderness alone with only a couple weapons, including a bow and arrows. Brian even has to kill for his food. Then he decides to go through a river in a canoe to find his friend Susan and her family. When he arrives at the Island, he finds something more devastating then he could imagine.

I recommend this book to people of all ages because it is a really easy book to read. Lots of kids read this book and said it was a good book so it will be a good book for you. It doesn't have a lot of pages, but it is a really great book to read and it is by Gary Paulson.

I read Brian's Hunt and it was great ! If you thought Hatchet and Brian's Winter were exciting , just wait until you read about this boy's return to the Canadian wilderness . He goes there to reunite with the family that helped him to return to civilization , only to find himself face to face with the bear that mauled his friend's parents and wounded his new companion . Brian's survival skills are better than ever . The book will keep you on the edge of your seat!

I enjoyed this book. It wasn't a happy book, the adventure wasn't as great as some I've read, but it was realistic about what happens in the wilderness and with wildlife.

It is time slowly spent in the wilderness that makes the wilderness what it is. This book shows that. Brian takes his time hunting, making camp, even hiking. When he does have an encounter with wildlife, it isn't in a "Bambi" way, it is in a natural way. From hunting rabbits for food to hunting a bear, it is done in a realistic way. I especially like how he insists on using as much of an animal as possible, not wasting it.

Read "Gentle Ben" for entertainment, but read this if you want to know what bears can really be like.

Over all this was a good book. I thought that it was a fascinating story. He got back from the bush and he decided that he didnt like the noisy city so he went on a trip. He went to the Canadian wilderness. He was hunting moose. He had the perfect shot but he decided not to take the shot. He figured that it was to easy to shoot it at such a close range. He was floating down the river in a canoe. He was almost unnoticed he looked like a piece of deadwood that washed up on the beach and somehow floated downstream.

Brain paused. Something made him reach out and take a broadhead out of the quiver and lay it acrossthe bow, even though the moment without paddling cost him his forward motion. He thought, This is silly, I'm being a worrywart, but poistioned the bow close to him just the same. Then dug with the paddle again, pulling hard for the island, the dog whimpering, and growling

The Hunt

How would you like to go and live in the wilderness for a while? Well that's what Brian does in Brian's Hunt by Gary Paulson. I like this book because it's only 103 pages, but it packs a lot of adventure.
Brian's Hunt is about how Brian's wilderness skills are tested again in the third book of the Brian series. The first part of this book is how Brian decides to take some days off at school and go canoeing to an Indian camp by a lake in the wilderness. On his way there he heard this noise one night, so he paddles over and sees an injured dog so he fixes the dog up and brings her with him to the Indian camp which finds destroyed by the same thing that injured the dog. After a day of searching he finds a survivor who tells him where the horrible thing is. So Brian finally in rage sets out to kill it. But will it kill him first?
My favorite part of the book is when he finds the injured dog and goes after what injured it. The reason why I liked this part was because it was suspenseful because you didn't know what hurt the dog.
The most important thing I learned from this book is that the wilderness is so unpredictable because you can never count on there being food, water and shelter unless you bring your own.
I would also suggest reading Hatchet (the first of Brian's adventures) and Brian's Winter (the second book of Brian's adventures) because they are both very good books.
You should read Brian's Hunt, one of the best action and adventure books I've read. You should also read it because I'm not going to tell you what the surprise is.
So Read It!

The book Brians hunt is what I would call a typical Gary Paulsen book. It has a very entraping and interesting begining that explains the main characters position. It also explanes how brian has come to love the wilderness more than his own civilisation. In this book brian returns to the wilderness with a canoe, and his ever trusty bow. Brian still with his original mind set he is instilled with in HATCHET. Through out the book Brian is taunted by the thought of the perfect kill. Come and see if he will get his chance. And comeread a great book.

This a good read. Though it is shorter than most of Paulsen's work, it is good. I didn't like the changes though. Like he brought more books than what The List in Brian's Return said, freeze dried food, the three pairs of moccasins, the monoculars, and the barbed fish tips for his arrows. Plus it didn't mention Caleb, after all he wouldn't be there without him. And it didn't mention his medicine or Billy. It was written in a different in a different way than the other Brian books. If you have read the other Brian books you will see a different writing style. It might be because Brian is finally in a hurry to get somewhere, but The River isn't written in this way. Overall I liked it and will continue reading Paulsen's work.I have been reading for more than seven years and liking his work. I have never and probably never find a Paulsen book I don't like.

This is one of my favorite Gary Paulsen books. I really enjoyed the twist of Brian finding a friend in this book, instead of being all alone. Also, he finally starts to notice girls. I also enjoyed the suspense of the mysterious island. His hunt for the bear that caused all the problems(I won't be specific because I don't want to ruin the story)is also very enjoyable. When he finally finds the bear, enjoyment and suspense come togethet with action, to form the perfect ending:the final battle between man and beast. Brian goes back out into the woods. He finds a dog injured and nurses it back to health. He finds out that a bear is what hurt the dog. Brian rows to a camp where his friends stay at sometimes in his canoe. He finds the two dead bodies of a man and woman that he knows. Later, Brian finds a girl that he knows. After these people in a helicopter come and pick up the girl, Brian goes out and hunts the bear that also killed the man and woman. The story is slow throughout almost the entire book. Some parts were exiting like when Brian finds the two dead bodies and when Brian fights the bear at the end.

My daughter had to read this for a book talk assignment in her fourth grade class. She found the book excruciatingly dull and slow, so to help her out I would give some dramatic readings at the dinner table. I haven't read the other Brian books but even before I read ahead to the way over the top gruesome descriptions of the dead bodies, I thought this was an awful book. Brian was so arrogant in his intolerance and dismissal of his parents and "civilization" that I at first thought this book was about how his narrow minded opinions about the "silliness" of his parents would be turned around or at least softened by some sort of growth.

We laughed quite a bit as Brian's extensive knowledge of wildlife was trotted out in every dull detail when he was trying to figure out how the dog got wounded. We chuckled when he dismissed Jack London's "Call of the Wild" as more silliness. I kept thinking, this kid is so full of himself, surely a lesson in humility is coming later in book!

Imagine my surprise when I read the unexpectedly and unnecessarily gruesome description of the dead bodies left behind by the bear attack! I told my daughter not to read it. And then the description of the park rangers was totally unrealistic. There actually are other people, animal scientists, park rangers, that do in fact know how to track and understand bear behavior. There is no way a park ranger would say, oops, these people were brutally killed but there's no way we can find this bear. Park rangers locate, sedate and relocate bears who are getting into dumpsters too often. There's no way they'd let this kind of incident go!

And thank you kind author for the additional gruesome stories of bear attacks in the afterward. Nightmares and fears of camping are sure to follow.

In sum, my daughter hated the book, I thought it was ridiculous and not appropriate for the 4th grade curriculum.

I was surprised when my fifth grade girl came home and said that this book was being read out loud in class. Her descriptions of the dead bodies with the flies and bodies ripped open, as well as the boy vomiting because of the severity of the scene, was disturbing to me. I have never let my children even watch PG 13 movies until they were actually thirteen. It seems that our society is making our children so desensitized to violence, that most fifth grader don't even blink an eye about something about this. With books like this being recommended in elementary school, I guess I shouldn't be surprised by how callous many of the high school students that I work with seem to be.

Brians hunt was an awsome book. It is a sequial to hatchet, brians return, and brians winter. It is very exciting and kind of bloody. He has to live off the land to survie. He has more experience now and it is easyer for him to live now.

Through Gary Paulsen's series about Brian I have a student who now wants to read for the sheer pleasure of reading. I started him on Hatchet and he is now in Brian's Hunt. He says that each book is better than the last.

There was nothing wrong with the book until the ending. Very dissapointing to find that the story, which was good, ended terribly. I wish I had been warned before I had my son read this book.
For those that don't like detail of a bear attack on two humans, like myself, this is not a book for you. I was appalled at the ending which I found horrible.

The idea of the book was good, he's in the wilderness, he finds a dog... Great, now he has to come upon two mauled humans? Come on. Paulsen, you failed with this one. When you said you wrote the last Brian book, you should have kept to your word. Very gruesome and not for children.
I really wish that I had been warned, if I had, this would not be the book he read.

My son did a book report on this book. I found it unsuitable for children under 13 to be reading it. Brian's Hunt has maggot filled, dead human bodies, and human dismemberment. And a moral to the story which was, the bear had gone to far, it was not right. Brian would find him and kill him because it was personal. So if someone does you wrong and it's personal we should kill them? Is that what we want our children to learn. How does a wild bear go to far when you're in his back yard? Our children cannot see movies with this kind of violence in it under the age of 13. But they can pick it up at any library , book store or school. No restriction for it's content? We have it on music, movies, and even television. Why would someone think this book was age appropriate. It says for ages 9 and up. ?
