Robert Ludlum's (TM) The Janson Option
By Paul Garrison
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing

Firstly this is a well written novel and a story that has lots of twists and turns. My first thought was that there were too many supporting characters to make the book work, however Garrison does a wonderful job and developing each to a point where they don’t get confused.
The cover, in big text advertises Jason Bourke and Robert Ludlum, both who have nothing to do with this book or series. It does feature in Paul Janson, the same type of hero as Jason Bourne, but that’s where the similarities end.
This is the second of the Janson novels, although I have not read the first (The Jason Directive). It works quite well as a stand along book.
Paul Janson is a coporate security expert, who has accepted the task of getting the wife of an oil executive out of Somali pirates grasp. The book is full of thrills as shots are exchanged, and everyone has their own agenda for the war torn Somali.
The Janson Option is a fast paced and exciting triller, that’s easy to read.

Shame on the family for letting this get published.
Back in the days of "real" books, Ludlum was the only author I would buy in hard cover.
The only thing redeeming on this one was the price.
Talk about a super hero, Janson makes Jack Reacher (my absolute favorite character) look like a sissy. Absolutely unbelievable.
Also too many characters.

OK, my expectations were not high. This is a continuation of a dead author's character by another author. Personally, I use CD books as something to listen to while I work. However, although I did not expect great literature, I did expect an action novel. Though this story of Janson being recruited to rescue an oil magnate's wife captured by Somali pirates does have some action, there is a lot of dead time in the middle of the story. Not great, not horrible. You have to decide if it is worth your time.

Other reviewers had it right when they lavished praise on The Janson Option, by Paul Garrison. Those reviews got me reading it, and i did enjoy it. However, that joy diminished in the second-half as so much time seemed to be wasted in actually making plans and laying the groundwork to get at the hijacked yacht. I got bored. Thrillers shouldn't turn boring as they move along, they should ratchet up the excitement. Kyle Mills knows how to do it. I hope that Mr. Garrison comes along soon.

Slow moving story. Well developed characters but their interaction left lots to be desired. On several occasions it seemed like the rabbit could not find the trail and when he did he was left with out any feeling of accomplishent. It really seemed like the writer was after the money and had no interest in the desire of the public for a good read.
