Every screenwriter should start by reading this book and using it as guide throughout their writing. The title says it all, it really is a Screenwriter's Bible, the best book written on formatting and guiding the writer through the process to tell their story in a format that will sell.

Upgraded to this version from the previous one. A great book that I recommend to anyone getting into screenwriting (along with a copy of The Hollywood Standard). Glad to have the newest copy in my screenwriting library!

Your first audience is the person reading your script and deciding whether to produce it, whether on stage or screen. This book helps you reach that audience so that you can ultimately reach the audience in theatres. Take your spark of genius and combine it with a well-studied craft. This book is an invaluable help.

An essential guide for aspiring screenwriters that covers all the bases. Easy to read. I'm sticking with novels for now, but this manual helped me get on track and get going on my next book. I'd only suggest that Trottier use more popular/classic movie examples to illustrate his points vs. his own scripts (Like he did so well with Casablanca). A reader can take away more from his point if they know the material.

Guide book on writing for film and television. As a new screenwriter, this is valuable and having an edition I can carry on a smart phone or small computer is GREAT because when I get stuck ... can just take out my device with the Kindle edition on it and get unstuck! Thanks, David, for putting it on Kindle!

I bought this book on a reccomendation from a friend and I am glad that I did. Like many starry-eyed artists I dreamed of writing my own movie script. I figured my passion and my artistic talent alone would carry me through. Reading this book opened my eyes. There was so much that I hadn't thought of. Your script will only get better after reading this book.

This book is like a screenwriting class at your fingertips. It's well written and easy to understand. It's a must have book for anybody who wants to learn how to write a screenplay or anybody who wants to get better as it. I can't recommend this book enough. There is a corny cliche saying i often read in reviews: "If i could give this product 10 stars i would." Well sue me because if i could give this product 10 stars i would!!

Save yourself tons of wasted time and effort. This book (actually 5 books in one) clearly explains how and why to write screenplays that will get read by Hollywood, as well as how to market your work. The author also includes a website offering a free blog to ask him questions the book doesn't address.

I love the everyday language, the non-preachy delivery and the way that this book is broken up into several books. You can read what interests you, skip what you already know or just take it one book at a time. It's been very helpful in explaining format to a novice screenwriter like myself who didn't know when or why to use the elipses ... or the dashes --. I've also never had a screenwriting class so this is an enjoyable read. Don't listen to someone who tells you to simply download some tv or movie scripts to learn, if that works for you good other than that...get this book!

The shipment was not quick but it luckily arrived soon enough. The book was in impeccable condition, and I am in a screenwriting class, and I would recommend this as the end-all-be-all of screenwriting textbooks. Covers formatting, structure workbook, and other real-world help and resources to writing scripts for money-making purposes.

Mr. Trottier's Bible is an excellent resource for learning screenwriting, and gave me the faith and courage to start writing in that medium. Can't thank the author enough for this invaluable reference that now sits within reach of my writing desk.

This is definitely one of the best screenwriting books I've ever read AND USED. The no-nonsense approach used by David Trottier is refreshing and useful. Follow the steps and start writing your next blockbuster! His tips and tricks are all very helpful and will guide you past those first readers. I wish I would've gotten this one first, instead of buying a myriad of others that really only scratch the surface.

Two important main areas for writers at all levels, story and character fundamentals and, most importantly, formatting rules - how your sript must look on the page. Good and proper formatting makes for an easier and faster read. There's a third section on selling one's script but the first two are really offer the backbone of screenplay writing. Other advice is thrown in here and there too. An invaluable tool in any writers bookshelf.

This book explains spec script formatting quite clearly, giving numerous examples. It goes into other screenwriting matters such as how to come up with a story and tips on character development. I bought it mainly because it was recommended to me by another writer, who had issues with the formatting of a screenplay I submitted.

Here it is. Formatting your screenplay is as easy as 1-2-3 with this book. I had never written a screenplay, only prose stories. I was advised that I should purchase this book, and study it, and by far, it inspired me so much to become a screenwriter, that I became one of his students.

This book has everything you need to write a script. It is great for students studying film, I recommend it to anyone interested in screenwriting. It not only teaches formatting but the correct way to structure story.

... saw off the binding; three-hole punch this book and but it in a three-ring binder! Thus, make it even more useful by putting your own colored tabs, pocket dividers - whatever - into the midst of these generously-sized, easily comprehended pages... I plan on writing my first film treatments and screenplays using this amazing resource. I have a pseudonym under which I will write them; hence, should my stories not sell, I can always change the tenor of my opinions in a subsequent, 'real-world' review! And blame David! This is the only screenplay "bible' I feel I will ever have to own: King Dave Version! I have three stories to tell for starters. THANK YOU, David Trottier, for your fantastic help. Now, let's see ... dinosaurs and atom bombs ...

Great Bible for beginners. Very authoritative and informing, Best feature? The feedback, and willingness to answer amateurs questions no matter how inane, or basic. It takes a great teacher to understand not many people will know what he knows, and is willing to share information with those who need it as an eager beginner. Ray Wood

I recently purchased the 5th Edition and I have to say, it has come a long way from the first edition which I bought years ago. I loved that one and used the heck out of it but the 5th edition has so much more. Insightful lessons on subjects like character and story development as well as it still being the best book for proper formatting.
