I would have probably given these books five stars if not for several of the author's glaring faux pas. When the drug dealer backed the engines on the single prop Cessna 172 to slow it down on landing. Impossible...this engine turns in only one direction. When Mac drained the oil from the outboard engine that had crashed on the island. Outboard engines do not have oil reservoirs...the oil is mixed in the gasoline. These only led me to wonder just how much more he got wrong. Sorry...but these just ruin books for me.

Read three of them before giving up. These books represent some of the poorest proofreading /editing I have come across, and I am a voracious reader. The misspellings depending on spellcheck, rather than a proofreader, are bad enough. The fact checking is atrocious, the worst of them being the Cessna 172 with multiple engines

Has some potential but the characters are at best one dimensional and often caricatures and a number of the situations are just absurd.
I stopped reading when I became very uncomfortable with some of the content - and I am generally pretty broad minded.

For adventure among the Keys of Florida the Wood’s sagas of Mac Travis can’t be beat. Steven Becker’s writing brings the beauty and mystique of the old times of the Keys to life. The characters are fully fleshed and are people we all know and love. Each character is like someone we know and as a result we can relate to them and live vicariously through their adventures. If you like adventure and want to get more acquainted with the beauty and solitude of the lower Keys, then the Mac Travis series of adventure are the books you really need to read.

One adventure after another - always wanting the next book as soon as possible. I've read all four of these first books and enjoying every one of them. I scuba dive on occasion and I love the Keys and I enjoy a good mystery. These books satisfy my every need for a book that is not too heavy, not too violent, and keeps me engaged constantly.
Mr. Becker writes so clearly that I feel like I'm there - in the book - right along with Mac and the other characters.
I read to my wife and she enjoys these books as much as I do.
Although each book is a "stand alone" book - each leaves me desiring the next in the series. (I have also read the first short story in the "Pirate" series and it is really good too.

I recently discovered Wood's Relic, and was really drawn in. One of my favorite authors is Clive Cussler, and although Mac Travis is not as complex a character as an Isaac Bell or Dirk Pitt, Steve has definitely woven him into a very entertaining character. I'm looking forward to seeing what other adventures Mac gets into.

I really enjoyed this series. It was a great summer read that kept me wanting to head to the Keys, meet up with these guys in the local bar and join in their hijinks. Nice to have a hero who is not a superhero or trained navy seal. Mac is a regular guy whose buddies keep dragging him into trouble. I can't quite decide if I like the lack of description of the characters (because it keeps my mind working on them) or not (because I want to picture what they look like as I read). I feel like I am missing something in Wood's and Mac's descriptions that would put these books in my absolute favorites. In terms of their motivations and character, they are well described, but I still can't quite place them in my head. All in all I loved the books and will keep reading any new ones.

I read all four. The plots get more unbelievable with each book. The main characters are not people I would want to be around. They are either stupid, gullible or have anger management issues. They get a bunch of relatively innocent people killed, maimed or injured. The bad guys are smarter than the heroes, although the bad guys eventually become unlucky and die violent deaths. By the end of book 4, Mac and Mel are federal fugitives with no plan and less means. I kept reading, but will never read another one.

Steven Becker gives us a cast of characters that mimics our own cast of characters. Haven't we all had a friend like Trufante? I've grown to love these people as if they're MY people. The bad karma that seems to follow Trufante around makes me shake my head whilst chuckling to myself! Yes, you want to help this baffling fool at the same time you want to wring his neck... Mac Travis and Trufante are buddies til the end, and their habit of finding trouble where treasure surely follows will leave you shaking your head and chuckling too!

There's something about salt water, boats, fishing and diving that excites dreams of sun filled days or beating a gale force storm home safely. Steven Becker has created a totally believable "salty" in Mac Travis and lures the reader into that oft dreamed of life style. Mac's adventures on and below the water draws the reader into the mystique of the Florida Keys and surrounds. Other larger than life characters, whether dastardly or fumbling friend, populate the plot lines and keep the reader turning the pages and wanting more. And at the end of the story there is a promise of more yarns to follow and they can't come quickly enough. Mac Travis novels make seriously good, easy reading that paint a seriously pleasurable picture in the readers mind.

I was looking for a John D MacDonald. Travis McGee series book and my search has this author listed. I thought what the heck for 99 cents. I have read everything he has published and will continue . I sure wish I had the talent to write, at least God gave me the gift of sight and I learned how to read. This guy is entertaining, spins a good yard and knows the keys. I can't give him a 5 he isn't JDM yet.

I believe the author is trying to emulate the late John D. McDonald's Travis McGee stories, but falls short in that McDonald used topical subject matter better. Becker's characters portray Florida's Key Culture very well but there could be more character development. Overall an easy read but I had some difficulty in maintaining my attention.

First, these reads make good summer reading, but I read them during the winter months and they were just as good then. Escape from the realities of a busy life is offered in this series. Fun, frivolous, serious, action-packed to kicking back. Never stagnant. Some reviewers claim that Mac Travis is no Dirk Pitt, nor is he Travis Mcgee. Thank heaven. If you want to read about Dirk Pitt, you've bought the wrong book. Open your mind and realize these guys (writers) are different guys (writers) and are not using a cookie cutter. Thank the stars for that!

I really enjoyed following Mac Travis and his adventures. Being a diver and loving the sea, made it more interesting to me. I love a good mystery and these books are well written in the style. I hope that the author will be writing more.

I stumbled upon this author and series recommendation via Facebook...I truly enjoyed the series...the books have some errors and consistency issues...but...that did not detract from the stories or the escape!

Wow, I have really enjoyed this series and this box set is a great deal for the 4 books. Mac Travis and friends are interesting and the story lines hold your attention. I am looking forward to the upcoming release of the next one in the series.

I love the Florida Keys. Mac Travis adventures are based in the Keys and I read all four, one after the other - when normally I try to switch authors just to break things up. I happened to visit the Keys while reading the last book which made the last one more exciting for me. Mac's adventures are not typical Keys adventures fortunately ;-) If you haven't been to the Keys, I recommend the trip.

I have long been interested in stories pertaining to the Florida Keys and diving. I have read all the stories in the Mac Davis adventure series in the past and have found them an enjoyable read. Those who have yet to do so have a holden opportunity to read the first four in the series for the amazing price of less than a dollar on Kindle. Give them a try. You will be glad you did.

I have followed Mac from the start and can hardly wait until the next adventure comes. I am in the process of moving to FL and can only wish to travel into some of Mac's territory. A great read anytime.

Great time when in to facts about the area of the Florida Key. When reading the details of the area, it beings me fond memories of times I have spent in the Keys. Thoroughly Enjoyable!
