John does it again and delivers a concise and comprehensive analysis of the work of "Economic Hitmen", as well as how to see the extension and graduation of their work here in the United States. A must read for anyone desirous of peeking behind the curtain of global politics and economics. BUY THIS BOOK!!

Very interesting, but never gets too negative. Even though he is writing about some of the most terrible things people can do to others, somehow it doesn't get depressing. That's quite an achievement!

Excellent insider explanation of how the US has built a global empire, from the 1960s until the present, through economic exploitation of developing countries -- and more recently, also the exploitation of the 99% in the US and European countries. A must read if you care about justice, humanity and the survival of this planet.

An outstanding revelation of the nefarious workings of the corporatocracy and their allies, the banksters, CIA and corrupt governments. A must-read
for people who have any concern with the future of our world and its resources as well as the future of their own children and grandchildren who will have to try and survive in a "death economy".

This was a very fascinating autobiography of Mr. Perkins career. Some of the stories may be over dramatized, but I find them largely believable. Full of dark conspiracies, sabotage, assasinations, corruption, and political names we all know it is a hard book to put down once you start reading.

I only gave four stars because the author gets obsessive on his leftist political propaganda, some of which makes no sense. He blames the free market with the evils of the IMF and World Bank. Somehow, he missed that free marketers have vehemently opposed the IMF and Worldbank's evils since they were created at Bretton Woods. Central banking was opposed by free marketers at least as far back as von Mises. True free marketers like Henry Hazlitt, Leonard Read, Ayn Rand and the Objectivist movement opposed Bretton Woods and the Worldbank/ IMF. Institutes like Cato and Heritage Foundation resist or outright oppose IMF today.

Because of this obsessive guilt and resulting political agenda, Perkins spends the second half of the book demonizing the very group that he should see as an ally for his very admirable moral concern.

Chapter 1 Dirty Business begins as a descriptive that could reflect the realities of countless millions of life's refugees who forever live at the margins of squalid imprisonment: "Tattered beggars hobbling on homemade crutches along garbage infested streets, children with horribly distended bellies, skeletal dogs, and shantytowns of cardboard boxes...Just a neighborhood away are venomous snakes, malaria, anacondas, killer parasites, and hostile forces."
Ecuador, 1968. Could it also be Argentina, Peru, Columbia, Panama, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Venezuela, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Somalia, Syria, Philippines, Jakarta, Chile, Nicaragua? It could be and it is.
In Confessions one the author writes "I could tell you that there is great hope within the current system, that there is nothing inherently wrong with banks, corporations and governments......"
Oh my! All this from his 2006 publication from which one could ideally expect that social, economic and financial conditions should reflect a betterment for all. The evidence for that, however, is nowhere to be found in the author's New Confessions. Au contraire. Please refer to The New Confessions, page 1: ...false economics, false promises, threats, bribes, extortion, debt, deception, coups, assassinations, unbridled military power.... are used around the world today, even more...." .
If redemption is to be discovered for author John Perkins perhaps it is best expressed in the Introduction where he is "haunted every day...by the lies about The World Bank, its sisters, by the payoffs to leaders of poor countries. the blackmail, and the threats to enslave their countries in debt, and much worse, violent deaths that befell those who stood with their people.
In Chapter 29 I Take a Bribe the author recounts a tense luncheon with a benefactor who asked if there was any intention of writing about "our profession". A wrong answer would have exposed himself, and his daughter to certain death. A correct answer resulted in a handsome retainer but with a feeling of betrayal to family and country. There was simply no option.

Read the previous edition. Sounds very credible based upon my experiences and other sources.
Helps to see credible connections with prophecies in the Book of Revelation.
A MUST READ for anyone who wants to better understand what is really going on in the world.
