At first I was a little disappointed... It started out very similar to another series I read (the shade of vampire books): girl kidnapped, power hungry brother, one good brother, innocent sibling, evil parent, the haven/ the shade... I was delighted when it turned away from my mental comparisons. The ending left me wishing for more which is what I love about starting a new series.

I have always loved supernatural books and this only makes me love them more! I love Eleira for her courage, Raul for his passion, and weirdly enough I love James' thirst for power. Yes, he is the bad guy and all, but he moves the story along. This book is great and it reminds me of a book called, "A Shade of Vampire". The twists and turns are breathtaking and have you latched on until you finish the book.
Book 1) Paranormal Vampire Romance - Moonshade (Vampire Conclave :: The Vampire Lestat (Vampire Chronicles, Book II) :: Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires Book 1) :: Vampires Rule (Rule Series Book 1) :: A Pocket for Corduroy

This book took me completely by surprise. I especially enjoyed the way the story unfolded from the perspective of each of the main characters. This is the first time that I have read a book written in this manner, and I'm looking forward to reading about the challenges the main characters will have to face and overcome. I recommend this book highly to anyone who enjoys this type of fiction. It's a rare treat.

Just finished. Very little editing required - my pet peeve. Interesting new twist on the story line. Not a vampire /human sex fest. There is a romantic story line, but much more than that. Competing vampire clans, Meglomanical Queen/Mother Despot with sons from barely likeable to the noble, youngest who sacrifices the power and drinks no human blood, Looking forward to Book 2.

I thoroughly enjoyed Book 1, Vampire Gift 1: Wards of Night. My thoughts though is that the author could have lead into the characters in more detail, there was a lot of empty space for the reader to figure out what lead to a specific scene in the book. It was like each character was taking turns telling their side of the story. The ending completely left the reader wanting to know the beginning of Raul & Eliera and why Victoria has such a deep hate for Eliera. What becomes of James and Victoria. Still, I am anxiously waiting for Book 2.

When I first started reading The Haven, I have to admit that I almost felt as if it was too similar to the A Shade of Vampire Series. As I began to read similarities I discovered that was all they were. Nothing was identical or exactly the same. The two different stories are completely their own, which I was quite pleased to discover. (Nobody likes a copycat lol!) I'm definitely excited to see where this journey takes Eleira, Raul, Philip, James, April, Victoria, Morgan...... all of the wonderful characters brought to life by E.M. Knight! The author did a great job with balancing the craziness of Vampire Covens and romance of a budding romantic relationship. I can't wait for the second book to be released!

Some of the characters' actions make no sense & these 600 yr old vamp act & converse like Jr High kids. The plot was interesting & it would have been really good w better characterization.

Not the typical vampire book, has more twist and turns than the norm of all other fiction books. Instead of the hero saving everyone in the story, it takes you in a different direction, the one that makes you keep reading, literally stressed me out and still eager to read the next book.

This book caught me by surprise. It seemed to be like some of the other shorter vampire books I have read until if became a page turning. I think I have it figured out and then there is just another off the wall twist that keeps me intrigued. I cannot wait to read the second book!
