Jailhouse Strong is one of the best books you can buy for building a jacked physique like many convicts display while incarcerated. It provides multiple methods on how to obtain a powerfull looking physique, and strength that will earn you respect wherever you go. Also it gives great background on the convicts life behind bars and how strength training saved their lifes. Jailhouse Strong is a must have without a doubt!

A great no nonsense manual. Some great rep scheme variations that help keep bodyweight training from being monotonous. Like all of Josh's stuff, this is top notch and you had better be ready to put in some work! I would recommend not just picking this manual up but also actually using it!

A lot of great reading but the programs are really not as simple as one would think about working out in a jail cell. Most of this takes time you wouldn't have unless you were in jail. I'm not discrediting the book though, it's a fantastic read even if a bit unorganized. Josh Bryant is one of the best there is, and while he's honestly a little too complicated for my taste most of the time, I buy and read his books because it's great (and accurate) knowledge to have on hand.

Another great book by Josh Bryant! Have this along with his metroflex and bench press book and all three are phenomenal. As a police officer it was even more interesting to see how these guys train inside. Def a must have book along with his other ones if you're interested in getting as strong as possible

Fun read, well worth the price. Simple, efficient workout programs inside combining dumbell/barbell and bodyweight exercises, or just bodyweight. The workout routines have flexibility and in my opinion allow you to push yourself as hard as you want to. Glad I bought it.

Civilization's place or those accused or convicted of a crime is jail. Jail is a place of confinement where all property has been taken from the prisoner, where to the outside world one has little to no control of one's life. Josh Bryant and Adam benShea have written a book that in a practical manner supports just the opposite can be true. One may be relinquished to 8 foot cell, but even in such a confined space there is so much potential if one has the proper mindset. This guide will outfit anyone with the desire to become strong to accomplish just that. The secret is to know that a life is not limited to one's environment: in this case an 8 foot cell, but to a far smaller area, the 8 inches between your ears-if one can control their mindset they can accomplish anything. If you desire to be strong with the application of this book you will do just that.

One of the best things someone can do for another is to save them of their most vital resource: time. Whether you are headed off to serve 2-4 in an 8x10 in the next couple weeks or just wanting to get after that new years resolution Bryant and benShea deliver a simple time tested system to prepare in the most efficient way possible to grow stronger using simple exercise routines which are based off the combined knowledge of men's need to survive.

On a lighter note I enjoy the masculine style of their writing, which to read in 2014 is enjoyable. This book's subject matter is certainly unique and it is delivered with a lot character which demands attention for it's graceful dance the authors use to illustrate the realities a convict faces and general prison lifestyle paired with the fascinating subject matter guidebook of jail house fitness and strength building. If you are a "fish" (in jail house speak: a new inmate, or a reader with no training regimen) or a lifting professional there are simple to implement workouts within to help get you and your routine started immediately.

Not much, I didn't already know after working out for so long, but I still took away a few things. Good for anyone looking to increase the intensity of their workouts and take training to another level. Good stuff !

A must have for advanced trainees and for weekend warriors. Programs are easy to follow and laid out in an efficient and simple way that anyone can understand. Often times books and manuals on training can be dense and difficult to get through. Josh's sense of humor and writing style make this an easy read. A must for any bookshelf.

Great book. Charles Poliquin tubed it, I put a tube search of the title and the gurus' names, saw some "old guys" doing shtuff and began pause repetitions as soon as the program was in my hands. The mix of low and high reps quenches the body's thirst for heavy pushes and filled to the tight pump. The mat and contact exercises are an augment for cardio contact work, though they are a limited taster only. Hopefully the tidbits for contact engagement are a precursor to a possible Jail House Contact Strong set of pages to come. This book is easy to follow for body and iron work to help build personal strength and physical confidence by the expertise of two "earned it" and knowledgeable teacher coaches.

I also began working regularly with an individual, El Patrick, recovering from a stroke, with adaptations like a machine press in place of push ups etcetera, with immediate "I feel what your said it would be" response from my comments about my own responses from the program.

For the same price as a bodybuilding magazine, you can acquire a valuable training aide.
This book has bodyweight programs and free-weight programs. A lot of the bodyweight programs would be helpful for those training in MMA or BJJ.

I thought this book was very unique...told from a very unique perspective, blending calisthenics, weight training, hiit combat based cardio with a very insightful prison perspective. I found the book to be refreshing. And I loved the chapter on the neck training as this is not a well covered topic in most training books, and yet, it is one of the most important for injury prevention. It also included some really good splits for getting big and some really unique calisthenics workouts. I rarely take the time to write reviews at all,let alone detailed reviews. But this was a good and engaging read. Glad I added this to my library. You should too.

All these years of new equipment, new supplements, new "performance enhancing gym clothes" etc, it's awesome to finally read a solid, old school type book that's well rooted in how the old pro's did it. If you're in to all of the hype, Men's Fitness BS, look away, but if you're looking for a solid, PROVEN method for getting strong by incorporating hard work, sweat and blood in to your daily life, this is where you need to be. After working with Josh Bryant in the past, and being in the home of hard work Metroflex Arlington, there are no short cuts with Josh. He will go to the ends of the earth to make sure everything he's putting out is proven, well resourced and actually works, no fluff, no BS.

If you're looking for a simple, basic, and effective training book, look no further. Jailhouse Strong is what you need. From bodyweight training to basic weight training.
I can sum up the book, where there's the will, there's a way. This will show you a simple , but effective way.
I've been coached by Josh for three years now and love the results. If you follow the outline in this book you too will exceed your old limits.

I recently purchased Jail House Strong, sort of on a whim. I really like Josh's stuff and i needed something to read. I was expecting a good book, but it was really more than that. Ive never really thought much of bodyweight training but the way Josh has it outlined has me psyched to some of the progressions to my own training. I also am now looking to add some rest-pause training as well, mostly due to how he presents the material..In short, its a really good book, well worth the price. Honestly, Id say its one of the top 3 books in my training collection, and I'm a huge reader.

Very happy with my purchase

The best part about this book is its versatility. Many books out there claim they have the best workout routine; however, these always mandate a degree of consistency that life rarely offers. This one is different: its about the method, the ideology of strength training.

Whether you can hit the gym 3 hrs a day or only have 30 minutes in your living room, the same ideology and science of strength training applies. Jailhouse Strong gives you the foundation and know how to make gains in either situation. Work, Family, Travel, Life often gets in the way of coveted gym time. When a trip or a family event keeps you out of the gym, don't let it take your hard fought gains too. The methods taught here will help you adapt and keep moving forward in and out of the gym.
