I first read Exodus as a young teenager; it opened my eyes to history of which I was not yet aware. Later, as I grew in my love for the Bible, I was able to wed the message of Exodus with the ancient Scriptures, and Exodus became even more dear as one of my favorite novels ever. Reading Exodus and uniting its history with the Scriptures helped me realize we are living in times when we have seen and are seeing the fulfillment of the Scriptures regarding the regathering of the Jewish People to their ancient, ancestral homeland. Often I play the theme song of the movie Exodus, the one with Paul Newman in it, and it revives the sweet memories of sitting under a tree in my childhood back yard reading Exodus for the first time. Each time I read it, I come to it with new eyes...it continues to stir my heart and it leads me to pray for the Jewish people as they make aliyah--come home to Israel. God's Word is true!

.A wonderful story about Israel's rebirth as a nation. Couldn't put the book down, I have read it more than once over the years, and it never gets old. The characters are well developed and you really become part of the story.

I have loved Leon Uris writing & I never tire of reading about the Holocaust. Never Again. Unfortunately, I've learned in my historical readings, this is almost the norm for mankind. How did I get this old without realizing that?

Consistant with the extremely high quality of all of his work, Exodus is likely the pinnacle for Uris. The story as fiction is compelling to the last sentence. That it is framed in a context of the real events of the times brings unignorable history to the view of readers now three generations later.
Dealving into the incredible chemistry that makes the middle east an emotional as well as a physical time bomb, it is not too difficult to separate fact from fiction and in the telling of this story, the two do not conflict. The story is true, only the names were changed. This is a story for the ages; a struggle of unbelievable strength and courage.
This is one of the few books i know i will read again, and perhaps again.

This was a wonderful read with interesting characters describing the treatment of Jews after WWII and the difficulties they encountered in trying to immigrate to Palestine. The impediments the British and Arabs used to allow the Jews a home and eventually a state are beautifully described.

Tells an important story that every person who cares about their own freedom should read. A great historically accurate account of what happened to the Jewish people from Europe who were trying to reclaim their lives after the Holocaust. It depicts the barriers they had to surmount and the suffering they had to incur to survive.

A fascinating account of the establishment of the Jewish state of Israel just after WWII. Excellent historical fiction with believable characters. If you are sympathetic to the plight of the Jewish people, you will love this book.

Just remember that this is a novel, not History. It is really propaganda, so it actually requires a lot of research. As a novel, it is very moving. However, take with a salt lick (not just a grain of salt).

What a compelling great read! How could I have not known about this great book for so long? The storyline made it hard to put down and got me up early in the morning. The research for this historical novel is amazing. I have a much better understanding of the situation in the Mideast and I understand much more how incredible it is that Israel as a country exists. Highly recommended!

Exodus is a thought provoking masterpiece detailing the plight of the Jews in post WWII era. The birth of their nation told in human terms that both enrage and exult the human spirit. I came away with a great respect for the Jewish people and an awareness of the evil that is out there that can prejudice man against man to the point of genocide.

I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Mr Uris books. This is the first one I have read in years.
So I now have to make up for loss time and buy more.
He really knows how to draw you into a story and keep you there.

I recommend this. Book to anyone who doesn't fully understand the history of Israel, as I did not. The story line helps with the complexity of history .I recommend having a small photocopy of a map of the middle east tucked into the book or case to refer to, as it helps to visualize the realities of the book. I am so very glad to have read this classic.

Heart breaking story of the struggle of the Jews to build themselves a homeland from a land of dust and stone.
A people willing to die for a place to call home. They built an army from scratch to the fighting force you see today

Want to understand more of the Origins of Israel and the Ongoing War to survive? Then read this book. There was never a Country called Palestine until the British ran the area after WWI. It was always a part of some other Empire after the Second Destruction of the Temple. Roman, Arab, Turkish, and then British. The only Country that was ever established was Israel.

If you want the truth about the Middle East, study history not fiction. That being said, Leon Uris is a thorough and we'll researched author, and exodus a good p!ace to start. Excellent and heartbreaking story.

Having always had a great deal of respect for Israelis, this is a book very difficult to put down. They are such a tiny nation completely surrounded by their enemies and yet, they thrive. Very intriging.

I HAVE RECOMMENDED THIS BOOK MANY TIMES. BE WARNED THAT THIS BOOK AS WELL AS THE PAPER BACK EDITIONS I HAVE BOUGHT ALL HAVE VERY SMALL PRINT. I WOULD SUGGEST THIS BOOK BE READ BY ANYONE WHO WANTS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT ALL THE CONFLICT IN THIS REGION STEMS FROM.

Exodus is a novel about the founding of the State of Israel! If you think your life has been difficult, you will not be able to imagine what the early Jewish settlers in Israel went through in order to make a garden out of a parched and barren land. this is my second reading of this amazing tale from nearly 50 years ago.

Uris' novel from the perspective of 2013 somehow seems dated as to the quandaries and complexities of Israel's precarious place in the Middle East. A better treatment of Israel's turbulent and traumatic birth remains Collins and Lapierre's non-fiction O Jerusalem.

Unfamiliar with Jewish history? I was...and this book gave a pretty good insight into it with some fictional plot to put things into context with the character.
Some parts of the book read too propaganda-like but overall the writing was exceptional and the story was well concocted.

Fiction which lives accurately in Historical fact. This is an excellent trip back in to post World War II. Leon Uris is masterful in bringing historical caveats into bearing with the events taking place in his story. This makes for an educational element to the exciting read that is " Exodus".

I could not stop reading. The book gives a thorough insight and feeling to the magical period of the birth of Israel. The reader can feel the will and the sacrifies the young nation done just to be free and establish a home for the Jews all over the world.

This is a story of helping Jewish young people return to Jerusalem. It has a lot of historical facts, interesting accounts of the hard life & determination of these people. I was glad to finish since it seemed long.

This book has great historical value plus a human aspect. I read it many years ago and our book club is reading it this month. Many of the twists of the 1940s I had forgotten. I have read many of Leon Uris' books and enjoy each one, but Exodus gets to my heart.
