It was a wonderful book of young women from foreign countries living here in New York coming of age. Was full of laughter and love and all customers versus new customs new opportunities. I would highly recommend this book to anyone it definitely kept my interest and I love the ending.

Loved this book. The author did a great job using Boston as a backdrop and incorporating real events from her research into the story. I appreciated the recognition of cultural references and the struggle of women in the early 1900's.

I enjoyed this book very much, especially the descriptions of life in Boston in the early 1900's and how women were starting to believe that they could be more than just a housewife and a mother. The characters were down to earth the writing was smooth. I read the book in a day.
I would tell my friends to read this book!!

Charming coming of age story, set in historic Boston. It's an easy read, and a nice balance of story, characters and historical detail. The story moves at a great place and leaves you wanting more. Perfect book for the summer.

I really enjoyed this novel about four best friends growing up in Boston's North End at the beginning of the 20th century. The author's descriptive style of each of the girls dreams and family life really gives a great view of what life was like at that time for struggling immigrant families. I hope Jane Healey continues writing more of the same kind!

I enjoyed this novel. The author made me absolutely care for each of the 4 main characters. When I reached the last page I turned the page expecting more, only to find it ended. I would love to read a sequel to this story to find out if these women fulfilled their promises

This book is a fabulous slice of historical fiction about immigrants and Boston. The young women are trying to make it in America. It is enlightening as far as the older strong female characters of Boston who helped these young ladies with their dreams. A sweet read!!!

Great story of smart & strong girls.
Good to know that back in the day, they knew what they wanted and went for it.
The old cultures and customs from immigrants was interesting. I would recommend this book.

Cassandra Campbell is probably my favorite narrator. She shines in this narration as well, and really brings this story to it's fullest life. Endearing and entertaining, the story brings the reader into the lives of the SEG club members as if your imagination of old architectural walls were speaking. Loved it.

M&s. Heatley can write a story. Her characters are so believable and her story line well established. I couldn't put the book down. Now I am waiting for the rest of this saga to hopefully continue.

Actually enjoyed reading this book a lot. Being from Boston it was nice to recognize the streets and the names of the secondary characters. Well written. Not as trope as some of the other books out there now a days.

I loved the historical setting of the book. The early 1900's and the plight of women and immigrants. The lives of the three Italian girls in Boston was very movingly told. I enjoyed the book and I was pleasantly surprised to find, at the end, that the book had a historic basis in fact. Great book. Lots of history, here.

From the Boston area so recognized many of the locations in the book. Story and characters were an interesting look at the times and the expectations of women in the early 1900s, but could have used an epilogue to tell what became of the characters. Ended a bit abruptly.
