I really enjoyed this story. The story did not drag and there always seemed something was happening. As in most stories you are surprised with who the bad guys turn out to be. I have enjoyed all of HEATHER GRAHAM 's books especially the Krewe of Hunter series.

I was disappointed in this book. It was silly and shallow. In fact I almost abandoned it but that is not my style so I stuck it out hoping it would improve. It didn't! Don't waste your time with this one.

Thanks Netgalley for a great book to read and review

Wow what a ghost story! Loved it. The small town of Lily was once a silver mining town during the years of the big gold rush. An unsolved missing person mystery is one of the big highlights of the old theater in Lily, Arizona called the Gilded Lily. A skull is found and FBI members of the team Krewe are sent in. Jane and Sloan have an instant chemistry which fuels the book, not to mention the rich history of the town, and the town folk. I thought the book had a great story, great characters and just enough suspense to keep you guessing until the end. Four huge stars of entertainment!

Heather Graham has, without any doubt, become one of my absolute favorite authors of all. She is able to mix mystery, the paranormal and romance in a way that makes her books really enjoyable to read and without shorting any of those three areas.

This story takes place in Lily, Arizona, a small town that makes its living based on tourists that come to see an old theater, a bar, a bed and breakfast made-over jail and other attractions. The problems all start when a skull turns up in a storage area in the theater and some of the Krewe of Hunters become involved. Pretty soon they have a lot more than just a skull to deal with. Bodies start to be found in various places and one of them seems to be pretty old.

The ghosts play a prominent part include the ghost of an actress that had worked on the stage who never talks, the reason for that being made quite clear later on in the story.

The romance is ends up being between the town's Sheriff and an artist sent in from the Krewe of Hunters so, again, all three areas are covered. If that wasn't enough there's even a shoot out, betrayal and a search for gold taken from a stagecoach in the past. It's a really, really good book.

The Night Is Watching

Lily, Arizona Sheriff Sloan Trent knows he is out of his league when a nineteenth century human skull is found amongst other props in the Old West tourist attraction the Gilded Lily Theater. He contacts his friend from his Houston police days, Texas FBI Krewe leader Agent Logan Raintree for help. Logan sends FBI forensic artist Jane Everett to Lily to work with Sloan.

As they team up though he has doubts about her paranormal skills, Jane encounters the ghost of Sloan's ancestor who worked at the Gilded Lily. Meanwhile more deaths follow as the cop and the fed realize that am Old West gold robbery is at the center of the present day homicides. With ghosts assisting the couple on the case and matchmaking them, Sloan and Jane fall in love.

Though similar in tone to previous Krewe of Hunters paranormal romantic mysteries (see The Unseen), The Night Is Watching is an entertaining thriller due to the Old West as remembered by the ghosts haunting the town vs. modern day people producing their vision of what occurred. Readers will appreciate the deadly hunt for lost gold as the ghosts help the Krewe and the sheriff who seek a killer while finding love.

The book had a good plot about an unsolved mystery in a small Western town. However, I found all of the ghost appearances distracting. That just did not appeal to me. Also, the two main characters in the story kept on going over and over the facts of the case. I didn't find it a good read at all and will not buy any more books by this author.

Heather Graham writes one hell of a ghost story. I didn't guess who the bad guy was at all. I mean, of course I had my suspicions, but then I rule them out and try again. So, when the bad guy was revealed I was pleasantly surprised.

The book is set in a small town in Arizona that is an Old West attraction with several reputed ghost sittings. The town sheriff is called to a case involving one of the towns most famous ghost and calls his friend, Logan Raintree, for help. Logan sends in his forensic artist, Jane, to help and ends up solving not just their present case, but also a case over 100 years old. Of course the sparks between Sloan and Jane were hot enough to scorch the pages or short out my e-reader.

The only thing I didn't care for was after the bad guy reveal it wrapped up to quickly. I can't wait to read more of this series and really wished Ms. Graham would write them as fast as I can read them. Wrote as part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Recommend to readers who enjoy a little ghost action with their romance.

The Night Is Watching (Krewe of Hunters #9)

Boy never guessed who did what to whom in the old ghost town of Lily. The ghosts of Lily were way active ghosts.
A skull with a wig was found in the props of the old theater. The theater has been running for over a 100 years. Lily is old west town that relies on tourists. They say it is haunted by Sage a actress that ran off and left her child and husband.

Jane is in the FBI, part if the Krewe. She is an artist who does forensic work. She also sees ghosts. She has been sent to Lily to work on the skull. If they can figure out who she was and why this old skull turned up now in the theater.

Sloan used his contact to get Jane sent to identify the skull. But he is not happy keeping the skull in his town he wanted to send it out. its over 100 years. Sloan used to be a cop in Texas but moved back to his hometown when his grandfather got cancer.

Jane is given the haunted room of where Sage's has been showing up in the middle of the night scaring people away. She is in her room and calls Sloan a name and her hairbrush comes flying at her.

Then a more dead bodies turn up and one of them is fresh found out in the desert. The town is having their busiest season right as everything starts to go wrong in Lily.

The plot is funny, scary, drama and campy at different times. With the actors putting on show plus adlibbing in town with all the festivals goers. They have duel in the street, hangings and old fashion melodramas.

The characters are all different and most are not what they seem to be. Some you like and others you don't trust.
Their are a few love scenes that I skipped over. I was entertained reading this story. I read it in one sitting.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it when done by Netgalley.

The story is a cute mystery with dead bodies appearing from the past and present. It has creepy ghosts and a dark basement. Mannequins move in the dark. Love blooms between the two main characters. It follows the formula for most of Heather Graham's books. I just wish that her clues led to a specific bad guy. As in all her books, the clues could lead to any number of people, as if the author decided at the last possible moment who was to be her murderer.

I love these book - they aren't the most literary - but they are just good fun reading. Mysteries with paranormal agents - and a little romance. The villains are usually someone you don't expect - an unexpected villain.
This story takes place in an Arizona ghost town - complete with real ghosts. It starts with the discovery of an 100 year old skull. Sloane - the sheriff - calls the paranormal FBI agents for assistance. They send Jane a paranormal forensic artist agent :) Bodies start appearing all over the place - along with old ghosts
Won't tell you more - it would give the story away

When I read a Krewe Hunters book by Heather Graham, I know that I'll get a good, quick read. They're very formulaic, and sometimes, that's exactly what I want. This is good brain candy for those stressful days when I want to read a no brainer to relax.

I enjoy Heather Graham's books very much and give this a sound 4 1/2 stars. I especially love the Krewe of Hunters series and would lock myself away if I had them all to read sequentially. Favorite Series.

A combination of a good old murder mystery with a hint of western and some ghost channeling detectives to boot.
It was what I would call a good wholesome read.
Nothing overly complex and written with enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested.
It might not have a lot of bite or any violent scenes, but it didn't need any of those things. Some readers just want a pleasant and entertaining read without having to strain the brainbox, query quantum physics or historical facts. Sometimes it's nice when the most complicated thing about a book is the hot cocoa you make to drink whilst reading it.
One thing though, what was the point of the whole tongue sub-plot? Surely dead is dead and ergo not capable of conversations. Should have chopped off some fingers instead because they sure didn't have any problem writing messages.
I would have liked to have seen more evidence of the fact that there is a Krewe of Hunters or indeed was in this book.
Two people do not a Krewe make.
Overall it was pleasant read that sails somewhere in the mid-genre field of mystery with a pinch of paranormal.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley.

Heather has me entranced. I love the paranormal stories that could be real, just that little twist to reality that makes it more than is revealed. This is the first in the Krewe of Hunters series - Jane Everett comes to an old west town to help identify a skull and runs into Sheriff Sloan Trent. Both are hiding secrets about themselves that ignite as they grow closer. I'll be continuing in this series!
