This is Lolita Files best book yet. At the beginning I got a little confused with who was married to who and who were the mother and father of the children, but once I got that straight the book was excellent.
I read this book in one day. This book contained everything, drugs, incest, betrayal, murder you name it and it was in there.
This is one of the best books I have read in 2002!!...
Buy it you won't be sorry.

This is an excellent book. This family had too many secrets. Sad, tragic, incestuous, twisted, and sadistic but it is a great book. I thought I would get sick from reading a story about incest. It's such a taboo subject. It's was skillfully written. This book was a bit different from her other writings. She's a talented writter. Looking foward to reading her next book.

I LOVE this book. It's really suspenseful and sad at the same time. Lolita Files has a really talented mind for writing. The ending was good and the characters were unforgettable. My favorite characters were Grace and Coolie. They both had lives filled with tragedy. Regardless, I love this book and I'm going to read it again sometime soon.

This book is sooooooooo intense! If i didnt know better I would've thought this was a movie! Well it should be! Though shocking and touching; while still hitting close to home for many readers. It is the untold, unspoken past/history/truth for almost all readers to be able to associate...

After reading this extremely dark, & dismal tale I was numb and disturbed, and seeking a way to process what I'd just ingested. While some drama is a good thing, CHILD OF GOD was extreme in its bleak, eerie, chaotic hopelessness. Reading it was a violation of mind and soul. I'm still stunned...and not pleasantly so.

Where does this title come from? It has nothing to do with the story. I thought this book was going to be about Christians. But to my disappointment, it was about the devil's children. The book should have been titled, "CHILDREN OF THE DEVIL." Not recommended.

Lolite Files really out did herself with this one. This story had everything that you could thing of and more. Incest, voodoo, murder and drugs.
Ms. Files bring the characters to life and when reading you feel like you really know the Boten family.

Lies, Voodoo, rape, homosexuality, drug addiction, murder and suicide are all rolled into this one book.

I had this book sitting on my shelf for months before I read it and when I did... I couldnt put it down. I read it in one day.

This truly is a good book.

What the--?????????

This story was all over the place. Hard to make heads or tails of the situations. Too many storylines, no plot, no connections or weaving of the story together. I don't get it? What's the purpose of the story? All I can figure out are fires being set, incest, voodoo witchcraft and later in the story it flips to urban street lit with drugs, guns and hos. There are at least ten stories going on in this book and a whole lot of profanity too for this to be a "CHILD OF GOD." The author would have been better off just taking the latter part of the book and writing an urban street story.

Lolita Files' latest novel about a Tennesse family plagued with the legacy of incest, murder and secrecy is by far her best. From the very first line I was hooked and could not put the book down until I turned the last page. The manner in which Files weaves in the backstories was masterful. In "Child of God" Files creates drama and suspense that will leave you craving for more.

Ms. Files has outdone herself with this one! After reading her previous works, (which were marvelous too), she has taken a complete turn from her typical "girl-guy relationships story plot" and presented us with a powerful story of several family generations and their secrets, leaving no stone unturned in the process: incest, murder, voodoo, homosexuality, and much much more. A definate page-turner, I couldn't put this one down until I was finished!

I have enjoyed other books by Lolita Files but this was the exception. I started the book trying to like at least one of the characters but honestly, what was wrong with these people? The only good male character in the book was killed off and all I can say about the women is that they all should have known better!! Between the innocence and violence, this book was garbage!!!

I read this book with my book club and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is one of those books that makes you think while you are reading it (a rarity these days). You have to remember how everyone is connected (and everyone in the story is) in order to get it. The writing was superb and did not fall into a predictable pattern. Although everything does not work out to a happy ending, it all resolves itself well. This book really shows how our family demons haunt our lives until they are confronted head-on. Pick it up if you are want an intellectual challenge.

This book is absolutely brilliant. I enjoyd the entire Shakespearean tragedy theme and at every twisted corner the four D's are there..decadence, deceit, demise, debauchery and of course drugs. it's an absolutly delicious read.

This book Child of God holds you attention from start to finish.
You will feel a ton of emotions while reading this book. Some readers have an issue with the title of the book, but we all must remember that we all are God's children no matter what we go through in life and that nobody is perfect. This is a great subject matter and Lolita Files did an excellent job in developing her characters throughout the book. I loved this book it was very hard to put down. Thank you for such a wonderfully told story. Continued success!!!!!!!!!

I really think that this book was a terrific book. To me this was a very interesting book I would read this book over and over again.I really dont have a favorite part in this book when u read a book like this u just like the whole book. This book can relate to other peoples life.Like when babies get burned in a house fire, girls having babies by their brothers. Also when a girls boyfriend kill her mother and the girl is more worried about her boyfriend going to jail then her own mothers death.I would really like to read more of these books more often.

Addictive-I read this book when I should have been studying. It was that good. I felt bad while reading it, but COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN! So many twists and turns, and everyone is soooo twisted in this book! There was so much deceit, lies, INCEST, hate, voodoo, drugs, sex, just sin, sin, sin! I think every sin mentioned in the Bible is commited here, and more than once! The ENTIRE family is so twisted, its kinda sad. You gotta buy this book, it is a must read(and re-read).

Upon starting this read I was a little disturbed by the issues, but well into the book I realized the book had a deep revelation to unfold. I finished the book in four days and I encourage all to find this book, a corner, and the mind of Lolita Files invigorating.
Be blessed...

In this descriptive page turner, Lolita Flies captures the internal strife of incestuous secrets mixed with deadly outcomes. Page after vivid page, I found myself in awe of her ability to create depictive scenes given the horrific subject matter. Highlights include a poignant relationship between Ophelia and her love interest. Despite the turmoil in the book, if you can stomach the subject matter, this is a must read! Hats off to you Lolita Flies.

I read this excellent novel a couple of years ago. I have kept the book because I am reading it again. Highly recommended. I won't give away any of the jaw-dropping details. Anyone who has read Toni Morrison and comfortably "suspends...sense of disbelief" will find themselves saying, "No she didn't...!!"

Be sure to follow up Child of God by reading Scenes From a Sistah. After that, Ms. Files writing becomes, well, ho-hum. Thanks.

I enjoyed this book because it was not like anything I have read or like anyone I know. Lolita Files has done a wonderful job of creating a novel that you will not want to put down. I found it sad at times because of what is happening to the characters but that is how she pulls you into the story.

The book is explicit at times and even though you would personally detest the actions of the characters, it is a page turner that you will enjoy.

To be honest, I never really got into this authors' other books, but this one was a page turner! It's a shame of the life that some people have to live because of family secrets. However, this was a good read, and definately one to pass along. I am sure that many book clubs would enjoy this one for their book of the month.

Loita Files has delivered an extrodinary novel. The characters were complex and simple all at the same time. The novel brought out a ranging of emotions from me such as sadness, anger, and compassion for the characters. Child of God is Ms. Files best novel to date. I enjoyed the book so much that I recommended it as the selection of the month for my book club(cushcity.com).

A sad but very well written story. The authors descriptive detail put me right there in each setting. There are many characters and you must pay careful attention at the beginning, but I must say I was thoroughy impressed how the author tied it all up in the end. I've already recommended it to my friends. GOOD JOB Lolita!!

I just finshed reading this book after purchasing it less than 48 hours ago. I just couldn't put it down. This book was in deed like a talk show involving one family in a twist of weird happenings and secrets that many would indeed keep to themselves. This is the first book i have ever read by Lolita files and i have to say once again "not bad indeed."

This book is so different from the others that Ms. Files wrote. I hope she stays on the path in which she wrote Child of God. I could not put it down I love the way she tied in voodoo and Shakespeare. I was truly sad when the book ended because I wanted it to go on. Ms. Files is a very good writer.
