Excellent book and accompanying CDs - don't buy it without the CDs! She helps you to explore different ways to meditate. If you are interested in learning to meditate or deepen your existing practice, you should buy this set.

I really enjoyed this one. A lot of great insight and inspiration as well as different types of meditation so you can "mix it up" and keep your practice fresh. I'm still new at this whole thing and this really helped me understand the whys and hows as well as giving me tools to keep my kind from wandering and how to not beat myself up when my mind wanders.

I especially love the Lovingkindness Meditation and can honestly say it's made an immediate difference in my overall well being not to mention my enjoyment of my meditation practice.

A great book for beginners and from what I've heard, meditators in general. Highly recommended.

(Also highly recommend meditation. I was a skeptic but I'm now a believer!)

I really like the way the author demystifies meditation. She answers many of the same questions that I had about it and made it feel more accessible. I haven't started the program yet (waiting for the New Year) but I now know that it's not going to be the demanding new-agey practice that it once seemed to be. I felt that reading the book once before starting the program would give me a foundation of knowledge to build upon once I start my practice, and I'm glad I did. It was easy to read and understand, and I'll read it again when I begin. I highly recommend this book. Salzburg speaks the way you & I do, not in cloudy, ethereal terms that just swirl around into nonsensical sentences that you have to read and re-read to understand.

This was a great intro book on meditation. Helped me develop a weekly meditation practice, and the lessons and text were very insightful. I've also used the guided meditations which are very good for practicing.

Salzberg has written a very accessible guidebook for starting your lifelong meditation practice. The book includes several different types of meditation exercises and relatable anecdotes on the benefits of meditation. Great book for those seeking to start or enhance their meditation practice.

Sharon Salzberg has been a guiding voice for me since "Loving Kindness." I resonate with how she expresses the ideas of Buddhism, and in this case meditation. I love this book, and it's resulted in my finally establishing a daily meditation practice. I highly recommend this book. I don't know if I'm that much happier...it's hard to evaluate day-to-day. Time will tell. I've only been doing it for 3 weeks. I'm just very appreciative that finally I'm motivated to meditate daily, and I look forward to it!

I purchased because I am attending a class about Real Happiness, utilizing meditation, & the instructor recommended it. This type of book is not my usual read. I find it dry. I am pleased that the author includes some stories from her own past, & about some of the things that have happened to her teachers or students. Those experiences help to keep me interested. A CE/DVD comes w/the book that has some guided meditations. I feel that it is geared to someone like myself, who is new to meditation & has questions. The author also reminds you that these things are going to happen while learning to meditate & concentrate on your breathing. She also reminds you that those things happen even to skilled meditationers, and to simple refocus yourself back to your breath, & let the other things go. I am only a little over half way through the book, yet if you are interested in meditation, this author & her book would be a good place to start.

Finally a book that discusses HOW to meditate. I enjoyed how the author breaks down meditation into different sections and gives specific advice for each aspect. I never had any problems with breathing and centering but I never could go beyond that. I never understood WHAT I was suppose to do, or say, or think, or not think. This book is a gateway to introduce people into the world of meditation.

Everything I have ever read by Sharon Salzberg is thoughtful, intelligent and practical on how to live with less suffering. Unfortunately, I purchased the book on kindle and so did not receive the CD of meditations which accompanied the book. So I would strongly recommend buying the book with CD.

I finally got around to reading this only to realize it's pretty useless without the guided meditations. My order did not include the advertised CDs and I cannot find the meditations anywhere online. I'm sure the book provides useful information, but I was really looking forward to the guided meditations.

Real Happiness is a practical guide for westerners in the art and practice of meditation with CDs.
Real Happiness is easy to read and understand with various types of
approaches, so if one does not work for you, you can try another.

Brilliantly outlines the basics of meditation and its various forms. I knew meditation was possible in all daily activities, but this book truly taught me how to live in a constant state of serenity; walking, breathing, cooking, brushing my teeth, dealing with emotions, expressing love and kindness for others. Highly recommend this to fanatics of meditation and especially beginners. I would also recommend ordering the book/cd package. The cd has Salzberg guiding you with her voice through the four types of meditation she discusses in the book. Great addition to your ipod or CD collection.

Purchased my own copy based on reading Learning to Breath by Priscilla Warner and loved it. This year purchased this copy for my mother as a birthday gift and she loves it too. The added CD to guide your meditation is a real treasure. It helps you along if you are new to meditation, and encourages you to continue. Great gift as well as to add to your personal collection.

The book (with CD) provides clear & step-by-step "How-to's" on mindfulness meditation. Powerfully helpful information and encouragement. The only thing is...don't put pressure on yourself to do it all in 28 days. Give yourself as much time as you need to read & practice and go at your own pace.

The main theme of the book are different types of meditation. Basically the book doesn't give any new information that can find in various other sources on internet. It only provides more systematic approach.

This is a great, practical guide to meditation. I tend to be a busy person, so I haven't exactly stayed on track, doing this over 30 days but instead over a longer period of time. I can say for sure though, when I'm practicing regularly over the course of a few days, I can tell a very real difference in my levels of anxiety. Even reading the chapters, prior to meditating, makes me feel calmer. Meditation is truly powerful and this is a great guide. If I could find enough discipline in myself to do it regularly, the results would be even better.
