Yet again the readers of Merry Gentry's saga experience barely more than 24 hours in her world - but somehow this installment seems to further along the plot more than the last two novels. Fans of this series should enjoy this latest dip into Merry's world. Ms. Hamilton finally lets Merry clear a couple of the hurdles she's been running at for a while, but not without contrive several more for following novels. There is considerably less sex in this book than in the last few, but it isn't really missed as what it there has some substance to it. Fans of the series should be satisfied.
This is definitely a novel for followers of the series rather than neophytes. While some background is given, it certainly isn't enough to make this a stand-alone novel.

A scandalous waste of money. One-dimensional characters with about as much depth as a half-dried mud-puddle. No discernible plot. I'd rather I'd saved my money toward the cost of my own cremation when I die, lo these many years hence.

Ms. Hamilton stuck to her strengths with this book - following a tried and tested recipe for a succesful novel, the book giving a good dolloping of fantasy, murder and mystery with a slightly twisted sensuality her fans have come to expect. This novel takes you to a good place, an escape from reality.

"Riviting" is what comes to mind about this book. Very entertaining. Laurell K Hamilton certainly thinks "outside the box"
love the way her mind works.
I'm happy with the sevice I got when ordering this item and the honesty of the merchandise.

YES!! Finally some plot movement! She tied up a lot of loose ends that had been hanging for a book or two and moved us along. Lots of action, and very enjoyable. But the last couple of chapters were kind of choppy. I felt it really needed a bit more explaination and description on the moment of creation thingie and what it created/changed and how - which I will not say more about cause it will spoil it for those who have not read it yet - but those who have read it will know what I am talking about.
And as always I hate it when a book ends without a real 'ending'. ARGH!!! I crave closure! And YES I really will buy the next book in the series to see what happens with characters I like without having the book end in the middle of the action. So now .... waiting for the next book for more.
That is really my only problem with this book. The rest is great.

I was plesantly surprised by the book. I have stopped reading the vampire hunter series but this book and the next were interesting and had many new concepts. They was a balanced amount of adult social interaction.

This book is great. It is exciting and leaves you wanting more. Although Hamilton has gone into a deeper realm of sexuality and sensuality in her faerie series, she still draws her readers into a world where you root for the good guy and hope something dastardly happens to the bad guy. Even causing a reader to go back and reread a passage to determine who really is the bad guy. With so many possiblities still out there for the characters, one can only hope that Hamilton will continue her story.

If you're into pointless dialogues, boring action, porn and poorly developed characters? This book's for you. I think this one is the best book of the entire series, but that really isn't a compliment. All it means this one didn't suck as much.
There were moments when I wanted to scream at the book. People are dying, bleeding, and Shiny Princess Merry is just yakking away about what Might be what Was, why are her super handsome men standing around crying/pouting/being horny/sad. Seriously? The ending was rushed without any transition that would have been really nice to have. The whole series reads like a fantasy left over from the adolescence of a girl who might not have been as popular in HS as she would have liked.

It was great.. nice action bits... just wish she would tone down the sex a bit... nothing against the sex it just the same thing over and over and over...and the way she describes every character over and over and over again... it's book 5 if we don't know them by now then we need to go back to book one. It's like she (Laurell K. Hamilton) just trying to fill pages. It gets a bit tedious when you read pages of the exact same thing in every book. I end up skipping pages to get to something I haven't read before.

So, I'm reading all the reviews until my overpriced, undersized copy of Mistral's Kiss comes in the mail, just knowing I'm going to hate it, and... I didn't. I tell ya, that really messes with my mind. Did I get a different copy of the book, or is everyone just grousing about the price and pages?
Okay, it wasn't that great, but the sex wasn't as violent as I feared, just tasteless. (I'm from the old school that if someone hurts you during sex, you retaliate by administering a Bobbit on a dangly bit. All the men reading this review may now cross their legs in empathy). Someone mentioned that Doyle and Frost were mere doorstops in this book, but aside from the fact that they didn't star in Merry's sex-slave show, they pretty much dominated every scene. (We've already seen their action in bed, unless they have some interesting new moves that LKH hasn't described in repetitive detail, I'm not particularly interested in a rerun.)
Sure, sex generated every new bit of scenery, but the fact is, the scenery did actually change. Grass grew, flowers blossomed, birds twittered, leaves unfurled... I half expected Tinkerbell to make an appearance and sprinkle everyone with a whisper of fairy dust while they all broke out in song. Then, right before Bambi and Thumper showed up, Unseelie reality intervened. Threats were made, fights broke out, killing, slaying, a wild hunt, relics of power returned, return powers to old gods, the plot thickened. Come on, a lot of unrelated insanity was going on, am I the only one (aside from the fanatic fans who would give LKH a Nobel for her grocery list) who was having a good time reading this? Granted, this is not a four or five star book, it is merely a quick chapter in a novel that is taking far too long to reach even a mid-point, but at least I wasn't bored.
I just wish it had lasted long enough to completely avoid the really dull DVD my husband put on while I was reading it.

As usual I love the book. Even for erotica it has a plot and it can be pretty deep. The whole magical system never ceases to amaze me. Laurell K. Hamilton has a wonderful imagination, although it seems to be filled with sex. :-) I can handle it.
I highly recommend it.
