I enjoyed reading both Awaken and Dance.
They are both such a fresh telling of the old stories that I was enthralled by every word. Definitely not the standard that I was used to and expected.
Thank you for sharing your imagination with us and improving on the Disney versions that we all grew up on.

This was my first Demelza Carlton book - and I utterly LOVED it. It's definitely got adult content, but hey, it's an adult retelling of a famous fairy tale. I'm totally hooked on Carlton's fairy tale series now! Beautiful retelling of Cinderella, with a non-Eurocentric cultural influence.

Just finished reading this story. I came across the book, quite accidentally, and the only disappointing part of it was the end of it. No, don't misunderstand me; the end of the book was every bit as good as the rest of it. I was disappointed that the book ended at all. I think I'm going to go get the first book in the series now. Happy reading, y'all!

Kind of, completely awesome. I really loved the writing and concept of this book. I'm a total sucker for fairy tale retellings, so this was perfect for me. I would definitely recommend this to retellings fans, as it really was pretty wicked. I'm excited to read more by the author.

Dance: Cinderella Retold by Demelza Carlton is more wonderful than I imagined. Using the most basic outline of Cinderella, Carlton has adjusted, and re-invented this entire tale. A completely unexpected interpretation ending in the sweetest HEA. I just love how she does this.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I sometimes won't read the description I will just purchase the books because they are free. It was told well and was a cute story even though if you've watched/read the story of Mulan and/or Cinderella you basically know how the story ends. Cute nonetheless

Just finished Dance: Cinderella Retold. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It reminded me of Mulan, so I thought I knew what would happen next, but no. Demelza Carlton kept surprising me. Almost wished it was longer.
Thank you for your creativity

Cinderella Retold is another fairytale retold in another time and place than the original and I like this one better. It's more grown up than the original. If you liked the first one as a child you'll like this one better as an adult.

This has to be my favourite Demelza retelling. It is probably more like Mulan than Cinderella but the intertwining of the two stories is very artfully done. I really appreciated seeing a character from another story pop up too. Ver enjoyable, quick read.

The similarities to the Disney product were to great for me to enjoy this quick twice told tale as I read it. Now that two weeks have past I personally like this version as much as I like the one by Rogers and Hammerstein !

This reimagining of the story of Cinderella is a delight in every way. Carlton's ability to bring fairytales to life is fresh and original. Setting it in Ancient China is a master stroke. Looking forward to reading more.

I love the ingenuity if retelling a classic in such a way that it neither detracts from the original nor bores you with its sameness. These colourful characters and the amazing scene settings make this a definite must read.

enjoyable read as are all of Demelza's story lines .... mixture of old Cinderella and Disney's Mulan with good characterizations and thought out scenes ... both stories are good by themselves but mixed like this, enchanting .... don't want to put it down

Very beautiful and romantic story! What a clever twist to set Cinderella's fairytale not in Europe, but in China! Mulan is one of my favorite Disney princesses, so it was a delight to hear about her story in such a unique way. The Chinese culture was described in a lovely, intriguing style, combined with magic spells and illusions. A great mix that pulls the reader immediately into the story.

I liked the secondary characters. Mai's father is wise and brave and I wish we could see more of him. The step-mother and the half-sisters actually come out as quite sympathetic, only victims of their time that dictated their way of walking, dressing, talking and behaving. Heng, the prince's servant, is also a great friend and often comic relief. The fairy godmother was so lovely and sassy! She is depicted as a young girl and not an old woman, so she could even be best friends with Mai! I wish we also saw more of her.

I absolutely loved Mai and Yi. They were so good together, so brave, courageous, honorable, funny and with a sizzling chemistry, even when they were only fighting as good friends and Yi didn't know Mai's real identity. After the happy ending and their wedding, their first night together is even hotter!

I totally recommend this romantic fairytale for everyone who wants a light, easy, romantic read, twisting and magical.

Absolutely loved the twist spun on this fairytale classic. I couldn't stop reading it until it was finished, and found myself wishing it went on. Wonderful remaining of the story, masterful in my opinion.
