if you like harry potter you may like this series. This book is about a boy that comes home and his parents are missing and how he goes about finding them. With the clues he finds he finds they are more than he knows. This is a first story of the series.

This sounds like an exciting new series. This first book has me looking forward to the second. I enjoyed reading about different lands and creatures in an amazing "underground" world. I think I may never view the tube in the same way. The writing is great and flows well with imagery.

While there are some similarities between this book and the Harry Potter series, they are superficialities such as the age and sex of the main characters and the fact that the chief character discovers that magic exists. But this book stands on its own in a different type of magical universe. I particularly like the revisionist history of Queen Elizabeth I as the discoverer of magic in our world, head of an army that defeated the dark elf King, and mother of a secret son. The writing flows well, but is typical of juvenile literature. That is not a criticism- writing so that a teens interest is held can be tricky and I think that this book accomplishes that.
The Amulet of Samarkand (The Bartimaeus Trilogy - Book 1) :: Ptolemy's Gate: The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book 3 :: Ptolemy's Gate (The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book 3) :: Golem's Eye :: Bartimaeus The Ring of Solomon (A Bartimaeus Novel)

Fabulous story, I picked up the first book in the series thinking that my YA reader might be interested in it and found myself captivated enough that I not only read that one but immediately raced through the next ones as well. I can't wait to see what's next!

Ben and Charlie are best friends so of course they set off t find Ben's parents together in the land of the Unseen. Whilst they are searching the happen on The Institute of Magic, meet Wren and then Natalie. And then you're hooked and have to read on. This kind of story makes you wish there really is a place where magic is taught.

I was interested in buying this book after seeing so many 5-star reviews and I was not disappointed! The story is original; it stands on its own amongst other well-known magical worlds (Harry Potter, Percy Jackson). The plot was quite unpredictable and I find myself rooting for the characters early on in the story. I never bought an ebook before but the book was so good that I inevitably bought it after reading the sample since I couldn't find the printed version in our local bookshops. I could definitely say it was worth it!

Enjoyed this book. It was an exciting adventure and I love the friendship theme in it as well. There's nothing better than a friend who's got your back. I just kept thinking how much my kids will enjoy the book and how excited I am to read the next book. A few swear words throughout the book, but mostly pretty clean.

Everything you could want in a young adult action adventure book. The characters were interesting and well developed in a short time. It was easy to visualize the scenes with good descriptive writing. I'm looking forward to reading the whole series.

This book was a thrill ride! The premise was compelling and enthralling, and the cliffhanger at the end compels me to want more. The characters are believable and endearing, even with the concern about who can be trusted. Harry Potter fans, Percy Jackson fans, and even Hunger Games and Divergent fans should find out about the Greenwoods.

This book was action packed almost from the start and kept me guessing though the entire book. I really liked the fact that it is for all ages so I could let my son read it as well. I can not wait to read the next one.

Enjoyed the book very much. Of course, it leads into the next book.. but in a good way. It is'nt a total cliff-hanger and stands alone pretty well, leaving you wanting more.. in book #2, of course.. The book is a fun read, especially since it was a freebie designed to get you into the series. I will be reading more of this series.

Really great opening book in a series. Very well written with characters that are developing into powerhouses in their own right. I'm looking forward to reading the next books in this series and growing with the characters.

Enjoyable light read. Not Hogwarts but interesting. The Institute is like Hogwarts and the ministry of magic combined. Another entertaining youngish trio and all are likable. I will definitely continue the series.

This is a good story. Well thought out plot. Decent character development of the main characters and enough of the secondary ones to make sense of the story. Throughly enjoyed it. Even worth paying for the second one. Which says a lot because I'm cheap.

Fast moving adventure with a solid plot (even if there's quite a bit hanging at the end). The unseen world is well written, with a lot of good colour. I'm not sure how I would have tied up the ending more tightly, there is another book, after all. At least it didn't end in a cliffhanger...
