This SERIES is well plotted with excellent characters It would rate five stars if the author (and his editors and beta readers) were not so grievously deficient in English grammar. This not a criticism of the dialogue, but of the narration. For example:fhe present tense of tread is tread, not trod. You read along engaged in the story when, all of a sudden, bad grammar rears its ugly head with the effect of nails screeching over a blackboard.
I certainly hope the next editions of this SERIES will bring the grammar up to the standard of the plotting and story telling already written.

When a book is part of a series, you like each book to be complete in itself. Not so with these. Where it ends isn’t a cliff hanger just a piece of a longer book.
Considering that it is 5 parts not sure if I am that invested in these.

I liked the first book and subsequent books but as the story progressed and more and more people got killed i started to loose interest. When the last dragon died I had enough and stopped reading as the story became to stark.

It was disappointing as it came with an excellent start but then seemed to get lost in more and more violence. Pity.

A great read. I have read nothing better in the last twenty years or so. It was a little shocking to come across a bi-sexual character in the middle of the book but I am sure the writer has his reasons. Purchasing book 2 now.

This book jumps from one place to another, to different places and people. I understand that is needed for this story, which is why I didn't give it a lower rating. I found it boring and long winded in places, but still a well told story all in all. It is very different and takes a little getting use to. A Good Read. A second chance in book 2.

Couldn't finish this. I got bored, and I dont get bored easy. Storyline was dull, characters were painfully dumb and one dimensional, and everything sufferwd from a bad case of predictable.
From a craft standpoint, this felt like a rough draft: all tell and little show. Lackluster details and common grammar errors.
I hate to bash another author's work (thus the three stars) but this needed alot more work before hitting the market.

I enjoyed the story line and had no difficulty with characterizations, but I did find the sliced and diced presentation to be most annoying. I understand that when introducing new characters to the narrative, it is often necessary to go off on new pathways. But when these diversions become the chief delivery system for the story I begin to lose interest. And when you throw in cliff-hangers at the end of a two or three page chapter, I begin to cringe as my digestive system roils. But the read was free so maybe I shouldn't complain.

This book has too many characters and kept switching between them, making it difficult to keep track. This book also has same gender romance. Readers should have been made aware of this in the book description. Many readers might find this offensive.

I loved this book! You need to read it carefully to get all the nuances of the characters but the suspense, the story line, they all work together for a great book. Can't wait to read the second one!

I enjoyed each persons story individually as well as how they all fit together. There are tons of characters to keep up with, and it looks like even more will be added in the next books. Although I liked this book, I didn't love it enough to commit to the remainder of the series.

This book turns the Chosen One trope on it’s head and makes it so overt that it’s an actual plot point for all the main characters. Some new concepts in here that I would definitely like to stick around for, but the writing absolutely kills me. Estes leaves nothing to the discretion of the reader. The impressive word count is due to 25% unnecessary description, adverbs, and repetition. The characters feel one dimensional and unrealistic.

This is a book I probably would have loved at fourteen so I can’t be too harsh with it.

Story, 5 star
Writing, 3

The story line of this series is excellent, i've read a lot of fantasy books and this story really got my attention. Unfortunately the writing falls short. It is definitely readable, yet the writing just doesn't feel polished.

If you are looking for something to enjoy i definitely recommend this book. If you are looking for the next book to take over after finishing something excellent this likely isn't it.

This one was pretty good the later books got repetitive and I found myself not caring what happened to some of the characters. I am pretty picky though about fantasy so you may like this series more than I did.

extreme language, too many characters that with the view jumping back and forth from one chapter to the next (I really hate that BTW, no idea why authors keep doing it) and there was an undisclosed Gay relationship. If you're going to write gay romance, that's you're right but you NEED to warn those of us who are looking to buy the book BEFORE we spend our hard earned cash on something we have no interest in. I have LGBT friends so it's not a bigotry thing... it's a don't waste my money and time by not warning me of the Gay Romance from the start so I can make an informed decision about purchasing the book. Ditto for the extreme language... tell us what we're getting so we can put our time and money into something we might enjoy.

This book was very interesting and was woven with many story elements that were intriguing and suprising. There are several characters and they are fused together in a fantasy tale with knights, kings, queens and everything in between. I highly recommend this book and have already immersed myself into the second book.

Rounding up the 3.5 to 4 Stars because it was so inexpensive through Kindle Unlimited. I enjoyed the plot, liked the characters, and will continue the series. The dialogue was weak, however; attempts at humor were particularly cringeworthy and pulled me out of the story.

There's a decent story here, even if it's broken up into perhaps 5 different stories at the same time - Not too hard to follow - My main dislike is the author introducing two main characters (both to be 'Kings') as being gay & the emotional/physical description entailed & ongoing.....I don't care about homosexuality, each to their own I say, but when I purchase a Sword & Sorcery book, that's what I'd like to read - I stopped after the 2nd book.....

FYI - Today, there are only 40 Verified Reviews (out of 162) with a Lot of 5 stars for a mediocre book.....

Too many protagonists in the kitchen. It seems like there's more primary characters than there is secondary. The continual flip flop . . . back and forth between characters left it hard to get into the book and I stopped a quarter of the way through.

The writing was well done. Character development was good.
I'm honestly tired of reading books where somewhere in the story there is a same-sex couple/attraction pops up.
This happens in the vast majority of books written now.
So, while the story-line was good. The book was not for me.
I didn't finish it.
