I've read several Kay Scarpetti novels and liked them, and I was curious to read the first one. Patricia Cornwell set the bar high from the very beginning. The story line kept me reading and the ending was a total surprise. Now on to the second one, Body of Evidence.

Patricia Cornwell writing draws her readers into a deeply personal world, while telling the tale of horrible events and emotional anguish. The human drama of this book has the breadth of real life experience, with a web of emotions and personalities set in a context which is disturbingly real. Her use of imagery relieves the sheer intensity of facts and provides islands of less verbal experience. The obvious element of "puzzle solving" provides the intellectual nutrient which is so fundamental to crime novels. If only her stories were not based on reality!

Patricia Cornwell has gotten continually better through the years,.
She's my favorite author! I keep all of them to read after a few years.
The stories are that exciting. I love the relationships between the
characters. They've progressed over the years.
From Potter's Field: Scarpetta (Book 6) :: Ripper: The Secret Life of Walter Sickert :: Black Notice: Scarpetta (Book 10) :: All That Remains: Scarpetta 3 (Kay Scarpetta) :: Body of Evidence: Scarpetta 2 (Kay Scarpetta)

My bookshelf is pretty eclectic and includes a number of crime thrillers. I just finished the first Reacher novel and was looking for another "first". Being from Virginia and having heard plenty about Cornwell over the years I finally decided to give her a try. I was surprised to find this a remarkably amateurish effort. I gave it 100 pages before I finally had to give up. After 100 pages almost nothing had taken place. In a style that sounded forced, Cornwell succeeded in over-developing a number of the books characters and relieving herself of much pent-up angst...and that was about it.

The author spent too much time detailing the horrific rape/murder scenes and too little time solving the mystery. Book was longer than needed for the storyline. The author dragged out the story from one clue to the next and finally comes to the resolution of the mystery after long and arduous reading time. First time reading a Patricia Cornwell book. Won't be reading a second one.

One the great series debut in crime fiction, bar none. A heroine unlike any other. Cor well creates a distinctive world as well as a sense of menace and chill you rarely feel in series crime these days, but it is here in abundance. You can see why this won so many 'best first' awards when it came out. Utterly brilliant.

IF YOU LIKE MYSTERIES AND COPS WHO ARE HONEST AND WANT TO STOP CRIME YOU'LL LOVE ALL OF THE CORNWELL BOOKS. I LOVE KATE SCARPETTA AND HER FORENSICS TEAM AND MARINO IS A GOOD FRIEND TO SCARPETTA. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

A long-standing fan of Patricia Cornwell, I have a complete collection of Kay Scarpatta and other works, but many are on audiotape. When I travel by car or plane, my audiobooks make the miles tolerable. I am beginning to replace the tapes with CDs. If I were not technolgically challenged, I should be downloading the books.

Interesting lead character. She was strong, intelligent, yet vulnerable--believable and relatable.

The brutal murders have Scarpetta invested in the hunt for a serial killer.

Heart pulsing ending. I'll be reading more of this author.

I have been aware of Patricia Cornwell for a long time but just never found time to read any of the Kay Scarpetta Mysteries. Since I purchased a Kendle, I will most likely "find time" to read the other books in the series.

I got addicted to Kay Scarpetta so naturally I went back to read the beginning novels. I enjoyed this one. I'm not sure where this is going, but I will hold on to see. Love the characters and love to visit them again. Thats the sign of a great series.

I thought the novel, Postmortem was a very well written book. I saw the author on a tv program and decided to buy her first book to see if I liked it. It was hard to put down!! if you like mysteries, then you will really enjoy this book. It IS worth the money to put it on your Kindle (or buy the paperback for that matter.) I intend to buy more books that have this same main character (Dr. Kay Scarpetta.) My understanding is there are 19 more at this point in time. Lots of reading!!

Postmortem has a very intriging plot packing the same wallop that all Cornwall books do. I thoroughly enjoyed it. You cannot go wrong reading Cornwall, as she knows intimately, the work a coroner does, and she incorporates that into her story line in a captivating way. It will keep you on edge every step of the way.

I had read several Scarpetta books some years ago but got busy and didn't read novels for quite a few years. Now back to reading mysteries and decided to read this series in order. Loved Postmortem. Scary--sometimes when reading at night I know killer will be standing at end of my bed. P. Cornwell really puts you into the middle of the case!

I have read almost all of the Scarpetta books. Patrica Cornwell is a fantastic writer and the characters in her series become old friends. Each book is a different case, but yet all the books put together make the story for all of the characters. Love them all.

I really thought Scarpetta was going to find out her niece was responsible for hacking into the office computer system, so it was a surprise to find out who really did it. My first time listening to one of her books instead of reading it. I think I like reading them better.

I read this book based on the many reviews written. I was not disappointed. This is my kind of mystery and I will definitely be continuing with the series. No 2 coming up soon for me as I do like to read a series of this kind in chronological order.

Felt kind of dated. Characters not terribly well-drawn or interesting. Picked this up after reading the Robert Galbraith series because I heard an interview with JK Rowling where she mentioned Cromwell as an author she admires. Perhaps her other books are better.
