Oh my gosh. Really poorly done. Very basic. She suggests a whole diet and then you change it. She refers to another book almost constantly. Suggests you cut out gluten and dairy but doesn't explain why gluten or dairy could affect one's mood. Oh and eat meat, but doesn't show any studies as to why meat would be helpful to mood. Disappointing and now I'm really depressed that I spent the money on this book.

I have another, similar book, "Prescription for Nutritional Healing", which is much more comprehensive, but anti anxiety food solution focuses more on anxiety and foods as anxiolitics. I am a nutrition major at UC Davis, as well as a veteran suffering from PTSD, so I thought this would be a nice addition to my ever growing collection of food related books. I don't think I would completely rely on this, especially in a clinical sense, but the idea that foods can augment mood is an ancient one, and this is a welcome, insightful resource for understanding the basics of this interaction.

I have been battling anxiety and panic for nearly 20+ years now since I was 12 years old. Throughout my history I have been fed medicine after medicine for years. Given things like xanax to take every morning "because it helps" rather than the spot treatment that it should be intended to do. And over-prescribed medicines to just "mute" me. Recently, I got so bad that I ended up not going into work and working remotely for nearly 6 months and am now trying to get back in full time. Many things have happened in that time including going for half day 3x per week intensive outpatient therapies, changing medications from a standard ssri (zoloft) to an ocd focus medication (luvox). I also found that the clonopin they had me on every morning was not helping and I was addicted causing me horrible anxiety once it was getting out of my system.

One day my wife, daughter and I were at Barnes and Noble in Tysons Corner VA, my wife went to the bathroom and I was browsing the stress/anxiety section. My daughter literally climbed up the step stool and pulled this book out. I saw it and thought wow never thought about this...briefly read it and bought it. My wife read it cover to cover (as at that point I couldn't even read stuff because it was influencing my anxiety if I read about others. ). I now hardly have any gluten, darn near no caffeine and watch my sugar intake even more. I have truly felt a difference and am so grateful for this book being part of a big toolbox that has helped me get on the right path to recovery and living with anxiety.

I highly recommend this reading for anyone who is looking to take that next step in your battle with anxiety and panic disorders.

I had the opportunity of reading this book and interviewing Trudy Scott recently. I am a big fan of Julia Ross's "Mood Cure," but Trudy Scott's book is more direct, simple to read, and provides more of a focus on anxiety (understandably) than the Mood Cure book.

I wholeheartedly recommend The Anti-Anxiety Food Solution to other health professionals as a safe and reliable resource for understanding how to overcome anxiety and mood imbalances using lifestyle modifications, whole foods and nutritional supplements. I also personally recommend it as an information source to my nutrition clients who are being challenged with calming an over-active mind(especially at night when they just want to sleep) and to those clients who tell me that their family members and friends are complaining about their moodiness. Today, we are seeing poor stress responses and anxiety rising and these topics need to be addressed continuously and their solutions communicated clearly. One of the things I truly appreciate about Ms. Scott's book is the way she clearly and empathetically communicated the content. Several clients have thanked me for sharing this resource with them because it gives them hope and helps them consider concerns they may not have thought of before. I am really, very thankful to now have this book in my library and in my Nutrition Practice.

I found this book very helpful after undergoing withdrawal from antidepressants and benzodiazepines. I found myself with a great deal of anxiety and needed some help. I did read The Mood Cure by Julia Ross. This book is more specific for anxiety and is a bit more up to date. I wish that our medical system would embrace these ideas as there are many who lack the knowledge skill or luck to be able to put this complex nutritional guidance to work. More information and support is offered on the author's website.

I had the pleasure of meeting Trudy at a conference, and she was kind enough to give me a review copy, which has been a resource in my holistic health practice ever since. We need great resources like this for non-pharmacological therapies - because they work, safely and effectively, without side effects, and build health for people for the long term.
Trudy has done her homework, and writes a compelling narrative, with both studies and stories to back it up. Her step by step approach is not only useful, but clear, kind and inclusive. As someone who works with clients every day, I appreciate her scrupulous emphasis on individual biochemistry, and her inclusion of food and lifestyle suggestions as well as supplements. Her check lists are well thought out and helpful. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for insight and support on this issue.

This is a tedious read. Refers to other chapters throughout the book making it feel like it was published grossly out of the intended reading order. ex: If you want to learn more about this, read chapter 7.
I was not looking for a treasure hunt.

What we eat affects not only our physical health but also has a significant impact on our mental health. Trudy Scott has written a wonderful resource on how to treat anxiety through diet and sensible supplementation. The inclusion of several questionnaires helps you to individualise strategies based on your own unique circumstances. I highly recommend this book to people suffering from anxiety. - Adrian Lopresti PhD, Clinical Psychologist

Not only does Trudy Scott teach you how to assess your diet for anxiety-causing foods, but she gives you simple suggestions on overcoming a variety of issues that may be keeping you from living a life free of anxiety and food cravings. Not only is this book full of solutions, but it is packed full of clinical studies and science to back up her anti anxiety food solutions.

Trudy honestly and authentically is an expert in her field, and has helped countless women improve their health, the natural way! She encourages us all to become experts in our own health as we learn everything we can for optimal healthy living.

Not being an especially anxious person, I wondered if this book would be useful to me. After reading it, I can wholeheartedly say YES! After more than a decade of feeling ill most of the time, with various headache, IBS, neck and back pain, fatigue, weight and other issues, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. No one explained the link between the food I was eating and my symptoms--this book does that nicely. I found the chapters on sugar and gluten to be key for me.

After a few weeks of living gluten and sugar free I am feeling much better. Best of all, the book made me feel empowered. I see now that I do have a choice as to how I will feel and fibro is not a sentence to lifelong pain and suffering, as it's commonly viewed. With a proper diet I can control and eventually eliminate symptoms while improving my overall health.

Thank you Trudy Scott for getting this valuable book into the hands of those of us who had almost lost hope.

My advice if you struggle with chronic health challenges: don't underestimate the role diet and nutrition play. Get this book TODAY and free yourself from needless suffering!

I was diagnosed with Pyroluria a while ago but had not understood the implications of this disorder and that treatment could be so simple. That is really the essence of this great, easy to read book. Trudy simplifies and clarifies each topic and problem. She gives excellent quizzes for the reader to take so that they may discover for themselves which health issues to address. I also really enjoyed the chapter on Amino Acids because she again provided quizzes to help guide you toward the supplements that would be most beneficial. And, I like how the book starts with diet (the most important factor in achieving good health) and then addresses supplements in later chapters. Trudy, thank you for writing such a concise and informative book.

Never before have I seen such a concise book which focuses on anxiety and the power of foods! Once I started reading it, I found that I could not put it down. So many people suffering with anxiety will benefit from the tools, advice and wisdom. I found myself reevaluating some of my patients for pyroluria and will definitely be recommending this book to many in the future! Thank you for filling such a void in the nutritional world!

I am a psychologist who became interested in nutritional approaches to mental health about a decade ago.
I work with many anxious clients and for many moons had been looking for a straight forward and clear book to refer patients to that covered the use of food and targeted supplements to help with anxiety. When I met Trudy Scott at the Integrative Medicine for Mental Health conference a few years back, I felt an immediate kinship. Her excitement about the power of nutrition to heal anxiety matched my own enthusiasm.

I bought her book and was hopeful that it was the book I was looking for. Her book "the anti-anxiety food solution" far exceeded my expectations. My patient's find it's information so helpful and tell me it easy to understand, even with for people with no scientific background. I have literally seen this book change peoples lives. Thanks so much Trudy for sharing this wisdom!

Dumbest Book Ever... it's someone who wants to make money on the anxiety craze. It's redundant in repeating the sa,enthing said on other pages. And Guess what - in short here is the content. 1. Eat organic and natural food. 2. If you eat something and you get anxious, don't eat it.

I attended one of Trudy's seminars recently at Integrative Health in Scottsdale, AZ. I was so inspired by what Trudy had to say both in person and in her book that I have decided to go into nutrition. Thank you!

As a psychologist who likes to incorporate nutrition-based interventions into my work with anxious clients, I had high hopes for this book and was immediately disappointed when in the first pages the author reports she only became healthy when she changed from a vegetarian to an omnivorous diet. She goes on to state that while she can "relate to your ethical concerns" (about eating meat), "Based on my personal and clinical experience, I am no longer a fan of vegetarian and vegan diets, especially for those with mental health issues." Shame on the author for making false claims about the health benefits of plant-based diets, which are numerous and well-documented - and for suggesting that one cannot be mentally healthy without consuming animal products. She reports that she has influenced many of her clients to give up a vegetarian diet, and it is unprofessional and unethical to do so without empirical data to back up her "personal and clinical" experience. This called the validity of all of her claims into question (for good reason - she also fails to back up many other claims throughout the book), and this book will be returned.
