This was the first Domino Finn book I've read and I loved it! It was packed with action and captured my attention from the first page. The only pauses in action were to fill the reader in on background details and history which were very complex with the main character, Cisco, waking up from being dead and trying to find out what happened to him. I also enjoyed how it felt like Cisco was talking to you and taking you along on the wild ride through Miami.

Francisco is a necromancer. He wakes from the dead with missing years and a different body type with a few years on him. What had he experienced while he was dead?

His journey through his regaining lost years gets exciting and thrilling as he encounters voodoo practitioners calling for his head and magical beings. Our MC is humorous while he introduced himself and is a well-developed character. The twists were good; I gasped in realization. It's not easy to get that reaction from me. Some might have seen them coming, including me, but I was thrilled with the reveal.

Domino Finn introduces us to Cisco Suarez as he wakes up dead in a dumpster, appropriately enough in Miami, The Magic City. This is the only time that our protagonist is at rest in this fast-paced, mystery, action-adventure, revenge, black magic, voodoo, urban fantasy, page-turner.

Dead Man, the first book in the Black Magic Outlaw Trilogy, gets off to a fast start with its interesting characters, twisting plot, and taut writing-style; it ends with you wanting to start the next installment, Shadow Play, immediately.

Jason Bourne meets the Urban Fantasy genre. Interesting magic, Miami makes for a fresh setting and the story boasts a character we can both relate and root for. The tone is dark and edgy and our hero's powers are cool. Some nice twists too and the ending whets the appetite for more adventures. Will be checking out the sequel for sure.

He wakes up in a dumpster and soon finds people are out to kill him. This story is his search using friends and magic as he tries to find the past he does not remember. This is an engrossing story that had me reading at times when I should have been sleeping. If you like stories involving the use of magic and at times bloody battles this should entertain you. I received a copy of this book by joining the authors mailing list and am voluntarily writing this review.

Domino Finn's story of a Floridian necromancer come back from the dead to solve his own murder and that of his family is a real treat. It was definitely a step away from the "normal" fantasy story. I hesitate to say more because I'm inclined to give away the story, but I read the first three books back to back, and they kept me engaged. Only negative was that the character is a little too trusting for my taste. I look forward to the next in the series.

This has been advertised a lot, but it really wasn’t my favorite. It was advertised as an “Adult Harry Potter” but it didn’t feel like it to me. Of course, my taste in books are different, but I can tell you, this wasn’t a good read for me. The narrator sounds a little odd. I would like to hear something different.

This is an awesome beginning to The Black Magic Outlaw series.
Cisco is fantastic, I love everything about him. His story is jam-packed
with adventure, zombies, voodoo and a lot of twists and turns. It
is truly unique. I enjoyed this book very much, and I know you will too.
I highly recommend it to everyone.
I voluntarily read an Advance Review Copy of this book.

If you like violence this is the book for you. A good read with a slow start for me with all the explanations of magic and what kind, but still a good read with fast action and fast paced with moving from one thing to another. .

I'm willing reviewing this book after receiving a ARC copy. Wow this book made you think while keeping me on my toes with action, intrigue, magic and mayhem!! Your never quite sure about exactly WHO Cisco was for the last ten years a good guy inslaved or a bad black magic asassian! I can't wait to see where Cisco goes next and what he will uncover about himself.

The first few chapters were confusing and hard to get through but I persevered and ended up thoroughly enjoying this novel. It is very dark and fast paced, or at least I read it at a fast pace because I wanted to know what would happen next. Looking forward to the next novel in this series. I was given this eBook in exchange for an honest review and I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED IT.

Interesting book with good dialog. Reading this book was an enjoyable way to spend a few hours, and some of the ideas are worth thinking about. I read this book via Kindle Unlimited; I would have been pleased with my purchase had I actually paid for it.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is the second book I have read by Domino Finn and I have to say that urban fantasy is quickly growing on me.

This book was dark and violent and once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. It was filled with black magic, voodoo, zombies, vampires and much more! It was fast paced and action-packed and I was hooked from page one.

Extremely well written and a very enjoyable read. I will definitely recommend this book. I can’t wait to read the second book in the series.

I really enjoyed getting to know Cisco Suarez. Things slowly unfold as Cisco learns the truth about his death, his past, and his family, yet the book was fast paced. By the end of the story, a few key questions were answered but even more mysteries were discovered. I look forward to reading about those mysteries and the further adventures of this Black Magic Outlaw in the near future.

I confess I picked up this book because of its badass cover. And the promise of a supernatural/paranormal story line with mystery, action, and good (or trying hard to DO good) vs. evil. After a slow start of explaining some aspects of dark magic and voodoo, "Dead Man" revived itself into a story that Robert Rodriguez should direct! Loved it and can't wait for the rest of the series. Awesome job Mr. Domino Finn (awesome name for a writer too)!

Seems like every new urban fantasy author is described as being like Jim Butcher to drive sales. Finn deserves the comparison. In this debut, he describes a magical Miani that is every bit as vivid as Dresden's Chicago and hints at relationships that could develop over the series. I bought the second in the series as soon as I finished the first. Great work, Mr. Finn.

It started off with a bang. Then it was like you needed a degree in voodoo , black magic and demonology to understand what was happening. Cisco Suarez waking up dead in a dumpster to becoming a resourceful necromancer was quit a trip.

I'd heard a fair amount about this book through some podcasts and decided to check it out. The writing style is good and the action is fast-paced. If you are looking for an entertaining book with humor, action, a bit of drama, and a decent story this is a great option. P.S. I ended up reading the rest of the series as well.

The MC: The main character is a twenty-something necromancer named Cisco; he’s slick, badass, and Cuban. Despite being a hard-charger with some seriously cool black-magic chops, Cisco is fun to hang out with. Damaged with a troubled history, yes, but not too jaded or world weary to be annoying. He’s a man whose made some serious mistakes, but still has the refreshing, idealistic nature of a college-aged kid who is really trying to set things right. Cisco has a bit of an attitude, but a good heart, and his powers are formidable, without ever treading into the realm of over-powered. As a necromancer he has a certain affinity with the dead—conjuring zombies, say, or viewing the final moments of a corpse—and as a shadow charmer he can manipulate … well, shadows. He can slip into and out them, phasing under doors, or fashioning weapons from inky pools of shade. Cool stuff, plus he’s got some other nifty talents to boot.

The World: The world building is pretty grounded in this one. Solid urban fantasy that takes place in Miami—which Finn brings to life with an expert hand (guy clearly knows Miami well). It’s a world that feels very close to our own; the supernatural exists, as does magic, but it’s a bit subtler than many of the urban fantasy books out there. The magic is pretty-sick and pulled me along.

The Story and Writing: I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It’s a classic adventure/mystery featuring a cool character who starts the story with amnesia. Poor Cisco wakes up in a dumpster after being murdered and things only go downhill from there. As to the writing—Finn’s a great writer. Period. His prose is always tight without being Spartan, and super clean in terms of editing. This story is faster paced and more action oriented then some of his other works, but he keeps a nice balance and gives us some much needed breathing room throughout the story.

The Rating: Five stars. This book is exactly the kind of urban fantasy I dig: fast, funny, action-packed, without getting bogged down by too much sentimental romance.

Dead Man is filled with surprises, wild plot twists, odd ball characters, and enough weirdness for two or three books. It is very readable and if you like books filled with voodoo and other dark arts you'll probably enjoy it more than I did.

Good writing, Miami and voodoo and if you like somethig different in books, this is for you. Try to figure out who the bad guys are. Enjoyed reading this book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book for an honest opinion.

Take every thing you lover about the Dresden Files, crank it up to 11, and you have Dead Man. Starting as a mystery and gaining speed as it goes. This is a great first book in what is to be a spectacular series.

Saw this come up on a facebook advertisement and so picked up a copy. REALLY enjoyed it. The main character has got a saucy attitude and isn't afraid to flash it around. I love the idea of a mage (excuse me, animist) in a tank top and boots. I'll definitely be looking for more in this series, and Mr Finn's other books.

Domino Finn. More magic, twists, turns and surprises, then you can shake a stick at. When you wake up in a dumpster, undead, your family massacred, chased by a zombie dog, and you have to figure out what you have been doing for the last ten years. You know your having a bad day. Urban fantasy just went up a notch.

Domino brings an introductory novel about Cisco Suarez, the titular Dead Man. This books is action packed and hits all of my Urban Fantasy buttons. Many of the facts about Voodoo and Spiritualism are definitely well researched and give a natural feel to the presentation of a part of the world that might be foreign for many readers without sounding too preachy or expository. I, too, wait impatiently for the follow up.

What a great book. I was looking for a good fast paced action pack read and I stumbled upon this. It definitely fit the bill, great story and magic system and I cannot wait to start reading the next books in the series.

I picked up this book on a whim not expecting much. I was bored but that was quickly dispelled as I was pulled into this story. The writing was excellent and there were few if any grammar issues. I'll now be checking out the authors other books while waiting for a sequel.

I kept hoping for more and it just limped along and never delivered. The main character cisco has a lot of potential but the author just doesn't let him grow. The story line between the first and second book is different, i just wish that cisco was. There are a lot of good stories out there, i suggest you save this for after you have read all of them.
