Johansen pens a stunning conclusion to the Tearling series
with “The Fate of the Tearling.” Set in a dystopian future, the
Tearling is being attacked from all sides. Mortmesne threatens
invasion, the Arvath has hired mercenaries, and the Orphan
sets his vampiric children on an unsuspecting populace.

Kelsea Glynn, The Queen of the Tearling, finds herself in a
Mortmesne dungeon unable to protect her people from danger.
The Mace, her regent, is torn between saving her and protecting
the Tearling. A surprise alley, Evenly Raleigh, seeks out
Kelsea to bring peace to the Tearling and Mortmesne as the
Orphan grows in power.

As in “Invasion of the Tearling,” Kelsea continues to have
fugues due to the influence of her sapphires. This time she
discovers Katie Rice’s story and learns how Katie’s past has
helped to shape Kelsea’s Tearling. Secret after secret unravels
leaving Kelsea to reconcile past, present, and future. Can
Kelsea save the Tearling, or will her future crumble between
her fingers?

Johansen pens a thrilling end to the Tearling series. Her
writing style is easy to read. Plot, pacing, and
characterization are well balanced. Johansen’s ability to
make the Queen of Mortmesne a sympathetic character, and
the Orphan deliciously evil, deliver an excellent read. The
ending was hopeful, despite Kelsea’s personal losses, and I
thought the story came full circle as Carlin, who was such
an influential and haunting presence in Kelsea’s life, reached out to Kelsea
in the end.

I simply couldn’t put this book down. “The Fate of the
Tearling” will leave the reader breathless with every chapter
that is devoured.

The Tearling trilogy has always welded some of my favorite things together: a strongly considered sense of worldbuilding and history, and characters that earn your attention. The Fate of the Tearling is the perfect ending, lovely and bittersweet.

I really enjoyed the first book. The second book was okay though I found Lily very annoying still the part that actually occurred in the present was interesting. The good thing here is that the flashback character, Katie, was much more interesting than Lily. The bad part was the ending came out of left field and ended all storylines by eliminating their existence in the first place.

The whole series was amazing. I read countless books yet this is the first to truly inspire me to write a review. From the first book to the last this series is captivating. From assassins, politics, war, magic, and the time shift, this story is woven so well throughout, with the ending, so beautifully completed.
Highly recommended :)

Warning: Divulged the narrative ----I was in love with the series but was dissappointed in this book....time travel? Now the queen is a normal teenager? This third book felt rushed and a bit muddled. I was expecting to follow Lily's storyline not a new one. It was ok. First two books were 5 stars...just saddened by the ending. I expected more.

This book annoyed me on so many levels. **SPOILERS** How do you write a final book in a trilogy without answer ANY of the questions? Also how can you foreshadow the Queen saving the Tearling throughout all 3 books - and then the end is a big GOTCHA. I would actually be ok with the book and the ending if an alternate ending wasn't foreshadowed throughout all 3 books, leaving me feeling tricked. Or if the author answered questions few examples of unanswered questions: The origin of the Sapphire? Why/how does Row create vampire kids and how would a vaccine cure a freakin magical vampire kid? Where/how does Row get is magic as a few examples of questions left unanswered. I felt like I just watched a gripping show and was on the edge of my seat and the ending is they wake up and it was all a dream. Such was the let down feeling this book left me with.

This final book of the Tearling trilogy kept me enthralled until the end. I loved the flashbacks which not only provided background details but also propelled the story to a riveting yet bittersweet conclusion. I am looking forward to this author's next book and hope the wait won't be too long.

I was disappointed in the final chapter of this series. I thought there were way too many subplots/flashbacks that interfered with the story and really took away from its original idea. We were left with unanswered questions. And honestly, an ending that was a little too convenient.

I adored this trilogy. I loved all the characters and the setting. After spending so much time with the characters (even though I devoured the books) I was hoping for a more satisfying ending. I would still recommend the books, but I was left feeling like that was it?

I have loved this series and was looking forward to this final chapter. While the fort half of the book was just as good as the the first two books including introducing new and intriguing characters it fell apart there after. The last half of the book was just a disappointing character after another. The ending felt rushed and not in keeping with the rest of the series a huge disappointment to a great set

I really enjoyed this series; however, the ending of the third book was somewhat disappointing. It's not that I expected it to end "happily ever after" but it was rather flat; kinda like seeing a yummy dessert and then when you taste it, just not that good.

I have enjoyed this series immensely as each book highlights different characters, yet forms a coherent whole. It seems it is hard for most writers to maintain the standard of the first in a series, Johansen succeeded admirably.

This book was very different from the first two. There were a few loose ends I wish were better tied at the end. However, it was a good, quick read that had unexpected twists and an interesting take on morality that is applicable to today's societal issues. I would recommend.

I loved this series and looked forward to this book. Yes there were some plot holes and characters that were left with their stories unfinished but the ending? I don't remember the last time a trilogy's ending was so disappointing. It almost feels like it was a cop-out. I hope that there are plans to make this into a quartet and Kelsea finds a way to go back and fix the Tearling she was left to rule.
