Michelle Madow has done it again - written a very different, highly individual story. In this case a teenager attends the school Halloween dance, where she is shot. Instead of dying, however, she awakens a week earlier in a parallel universe, one where her Mom wasn’t killed in a car accident six months ago, a universe where her friends, grades and especially her boyfriend are totally different. The story explores, through the parallel universes, how choices can have long lasting impacts. It also explores how it is possible to strive to change what happens if you have prior knowledge of events and consequences.

This is an action packed multi-timeline story, which can be a tad confusing at times, but is definitely worth sticking with. The reader is taken straight into the fast paced, action packed story which includes different friendships, attitudes and beliefs. It explores these and there’s even a love triangle aspect between the parallel universes. It is an intricate exploration of choices, especially as the main character tries to encourage others in the parallel scenarios to try to change what will happen at the dance. Can you imagine trying to convince your friends to do something different because you know otherwise something dreadful will happen - and trying to ensure they still think you’re sane whilst doing so?

This is an emotive subject. I’m always somewhat wary of stories involving school shootings but the multi universe aspects of the story do help with this and it is interesting how the main character, Anna, strives to prevent it having the same devastating impact in the parallel worlds. It leaves some threads unresolved - maybe sequels are in the pipeline?

Many thanks to the author for gifting me a copy of this novel with no obligation. This is my honest review.

Collide is written in Madow's signature style, fast-paced non-stop action with plenty of twist to keep you guessing and characters that will make you smile. Once again, this author has created an amazing story that I didn't want to put down!

Collide in 5 words: Fun mysterious action-filled fantasy.

Storyline: I was hooked from the beginning. Immediately after reading the first couple of paragraphs I felt the nostalgia practically dripping from the pages. Madow has a way of pulling you into the character's head and I felt like a teen all over again!

Quite quickly though the mood changes into a more somber, almost melancholy feel. Not without reason, the main character Anna has recently lost her mother from a drunk driver hitting her.

Not only does she lose her mother but she also loses her boyfriend from a school shooting at the Halloween Dance.

Imagine waking up the next morning and you are a week into the past, AND in another universe! Ever heard of the multiverse theory? I LOVE that Michelle uses it in Collide!

Characters: I really enjoyed each and every character in this book. They are all written into incredibly realistic people. I felt like I knew them!

Watching Anna get to know her friends all over again in the parallel universe was super intriguing. I loved how they were the same people but different due to the experiences that made them who they are.

Other things I liked about Collide:
1. It reminded me of a YA version of Groundhog Day.
2. The series, real-world issues of gun violence: On the surface this book may feel like a light read but it does deal with a few serious issues.
3. Fast-pacing (Of course!).
4. The Ending- I can't tell you anything but at first I thought 'wait, no...that can't be the end!' but after simmering on the ending I absolutely loved it!

All-In-All:
I'd recommend this book to anyone with the following:
1. A Book Hangover- Collide if the perfect cure!
2. If you're a fan of the multiverse theory.
3. Or if you like time-travel!
4. Love fast-paced adventure type books.
5. Are a fan of Groundhog Day.

I’ve read groundhog day-esque books before but there is something unique about Collide. It has an element of murder mystery, as Anna tries to figure out who shot her at the dance. Also the characters are much more aware than you normally see.

Anna is brave, strong and dedicated to her studies. She desperately loves her best friend turned boyfriend Jake and is still haunted by her mother's death. When she is tossed into an alternate universe of her life where her mother is still alive. It throws her off kilter. The person Anna is today was greatly influenced by her mother’s death and now she is seeing what her life would have been like had it not happened. Annabelle is more carefree and finds happiness in different things and different friends.

I hate to say it but I liked Eric more than I liked Jake.I’m like stop chasing the boyfriend from the other universe!! Eric is great! He was so supportive of Annabelle through the whole thing from the minute when she told him what had happened. He is also more trustworthy and more willing to fight for her. I just felt like Jake might have been great in Anna’s world but in Annabelle’s, he seemed kind of like a dud. Ugh I just didn’t like him.

I loved how Anna is able to explore why her friendships fell apart in her world and why others stayed together. The differences between Claire and Marissa are obvious. I just thought that part was really interesting.

The book is fast paced. I read it in a day because I felt like how could you not. I needed to know what was going to happen! Plus that ending. Whhaaaattt! I’m still reeling. I really enjoyed the story though.

I got an ARC which I read voluntarily.
Let me start by saying I love Michelle Madow's fast paced writing. This book starts at quite a fast pace but I felt it slows down a bit after that. I was absorbed in the story right from the start which is required for me to continue reading any book. The book also has an amazingly beautiful cover.
For some reason I found the lead female character which is Anna, arrogant and a bit selfish who wants to get her guy at any cost even if it means crushing others on the path. The secondary character of Zac who also happens to be her boyfriend in alternate reality and her best friend Clarie in alternate reality seem to be much better character who really cared about her and loved her. They came out as really better characters from my point of view. Marissa who is her best friend from present reality and Jake her boyfriend from present reality were back stabbing and not so great boyfriend material from my point of view and it's same in the alternate reality.

The storyline is really great which deals with alternate reality which means that there are various outcomes to the same situations and each one is playing out in the universe. This is a very interesting concept as well as difficult to narrate without losing pace and substance or make it sound boring. Ms. Madow narrated a story with such a complicated concept amazingly well.

All in all a great read and a stand alone book.

Collide by Michelle Madow is one of those books that easily sweeps you away from reality. It's Fantasy, Sci-fi, and Romance with some mystery thrown in. The story was very fast paced, and I felt completely invested in the outcomes & lives of these characters. At first, the ending was abrupt. I had more questions than answers, and I was beyond disappointed and frustrated. BUT, there is an epilogue on the author's website! This epilogue is much needed! It answered my questions and tied up lose ends. So, if you've read this book already and your version didn't have the epilogue, go to her site and read it! You'll be so glad you did. If you haven't read the book yet, don't you dare read the epilogue until you read the book! This book was originally supposed to be a stand alone, but I've heard rumor it might become a series. We'll see. If more happen, I'll be anxious to read them as well.

Collide by Michelle Madow was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.

This is another fairly short book. I got sucked into it and finished it in a few hours.

The plot was interesting. The characters did feel like high school students (which is what they are). The pace was fairly fast which was nice. I also like that it talked about a few issues that are in today's society that need to have a bit more awareness. Even though I guessed who the shooter was fairly early on I still felt like the author did a good job on trying to keep people guessing. There was one part I wish was a bit more fleshed out and that is the possible rape that happened in the first time line. It is glossed over in the second time line and it would have been nice for it to be in there at least a bit. It felt like it would be talked about then it was just kinda left. This said the book does not show this scene just kinda talks about what was prevented because of the main character doing something.

The only issue I had was the ending of the book. It was left wide open. On one hand I do not mind this type of ending as it lets me make up my own ending. On the other hand it left me with a feeling that the book wasn't done.

I received this as an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review with no expectations.

Michelle did a fantastic job creating a page turner. When I sat down to read the book I wasn't sure what to expect. Once I read the first chapter I was hooked. I was excited to see where the events were heading and I was invested in the characters and trying to solve the mystery as well. Michelle created a wonderful storyline that was woven together perfectly.

I have loved Michelle's series that she has written, and I was definitely interested to see how she would pull off a stand alone novel and I thought it was amazing!

This is a quick, easy, and entertaining read!

Have you ever wanted a do over in life? Anna has been wishing for months for one, since her mom died in a car accident. She built herself up, her relationship with Jake has grown strong since over the summer.

Yet not everyone is looking forward to the schools Halloween dance. Someone at the dance brings a gun, and as shots are fired Anna watches as Jake dies on the dance floor. As she tries to save him she too gets hit and blacks out.

It's Friday, October 31st, again.

It's been a gruelingly long week, and it sucks to have had to live through it, again. Somehow Anna wakes up in an alternative time line, one where her mom didn't die, and Jake is very clearly not her boyfriend, Zac is.

With the dance coming up all Anna can do is try to figure out who the shooter is. Will Jake and Anna relive their awful final moments like they did the last time (a week prior)? Or will tonight play out differently?

As enemies turn into best friends, and best friends morph into jealous monster ex-bff's, who the hell knows whats going on anymore. At the end of tonight's dance, who will truly holds Anna's heart, Zac or Jake?

Wow! I couldn't put it down!! As always, Ms Madow doesn't disappoint. I know this is a stand alone book, but I wanted more. I want to know more about Ana, Zac, Jake, Marissa, Claire and everyone else. The whole book had me gripping at the chair in suspense. It's full of twists and turns, some light comedy, romance and drama. I can't get enough. Very well done Michelle.

I have enjoyed other books by Michelle Madow, but I have to say this was my favorite so far. Time-travel or time-shift stories have long been a favorite, and Michelle's different handling of the old theme is refreshing and intriguing. Believable characters, realistic challenges and current issues keep the story moving. Well done! I hope to see more of these characters.

The synopsis of this book caught my attention. We follow our main character, Anna and the incidents leading up to the Halloween Dance where she is shot. She wakes up in a parallel universe to the start of the week before the Halloween dance but everything has changed. Her mom who died in the present life is ALIVE in the parallel universe. Well you can guess the rest, as her mom is alive in this universe, a new set of events has taken place. Anna is confused as to what actually happened and seeing her mom alive was the biggest shocker for her. She decides to take control and prevent the shooting from happening at the Halloween dance in the parallel universe.

Anna does a great job handling things like a PRO in the parallel Universe(PU). She is determined to prevent the shooting and is scared that after she does that, she might be transported back and will lose her mother. Anna has two love interests in this book. Jake in the Present Life(PL) who was her boyfriend but he is not in the PU. She is literally heartbroken when she sees Jake with someone else. For Anna, Jake is the love of her life and she will fight for him.

Zac, a jock who hasn’t spoken to Anna at all in the PL is actually her boyfriend in the PU. Honestly, I loved Zac more than Jake:p He doesn’t give up on Anna and plays a major role in helping Anna at the end.

Claire, Anna’s ex-bestfriend in the PL is Anna’s best friend in the PU. I really loved the friendship that these two shared in this book. Claire is the ultimate best friend.

The minus for me was that there wasn’t a major twist or turn in this book and I was able to guess who the shooter was.

This book is a perfect standalone but it does end on a CLIFFHANGER and I was like- is there another book or is it like a book where they just leave you on a cliffhanger for you to imagine what will happen next.I came to know that there will be a COMPANION to this book where the cliffhanger will be resolved, so stay tuned!!!

This is an excellent novel based on the idea of a multiverse with many turning points. Our heroine finds herself at a critical moment shifted to an alternate universe and replacing another version of herself, moving a few days back in time as well. The book is well plotted and the topic handled superbly as the protagonist navigates the changes in the other world and fights to prevent the tragedy that sent her there. The characters are well developed and likable with a surprising depth in their relationships. The book is technically Young Adult due to the ages of the characters but I haven't been YA for forty years and I enjoyed it very much. Be prepared to read it in one sitting.

I received a free copy of this book without any expectations. I am reviewing this book because I enjoy writing reviews and review every book that I finish.

I don't usually read young adult books, I favor paranormal romances. But this one caught my interest and I couldn't put it down.
I'm retired and care for my husband who is ill and needs round the clock care, so to occupy my time I read a LOT!
A book has to be well written to hold my interest. I become bored with slow books very easily and this one held my interest from the very beginning to the end.
To the author I say, very well done.

This was an intense story. I don't know if there will be a second story or if this is a standalone, but I hope there's a second one. The actual episode ended but the story hasn't concluded and we are left with a cliffhanger that makes you want to know what happens next, or if anything will. It's confusing, but impossible to explain without spoilers.
The characters are complex and the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat. Definitely worth reading.
I was gifted a copy of this book by the author and I agreed to consider leaving a review.

Michelle weaved an amazing, yet gut wrenching tale about a girl named, Anna. I immediately fell in love with the characters; their spirit, their willingness to believe the impossible and most importantly, to help stop what was to come. In the middle of this story is an undying love between two people, regardless of their timeline. It was truly beautiful and heart stopping. The ending will leave you breathless with anticipation.
Michelle worked her magic, yet again. If you're not familiar with her books, I suggest her Elemental Series and go from there. She's one of my favorite authors. This book is just another example of her beautiful mind. This book deserves 5+ stars!

The story line for this book had me hooked from the summary and knowing that it was a stand alone was a nice break from all the series books that I have been reading lately. The idea of going back in time to relieve previous events is both exciting and terrifying to think about considering what has happened to Anna in her past. Although I figured out who the killer was early on, throwing in the other possible suspects and the reasoning behind them made me question who I thought until the end. It was quite the easy read, which I didn't mind, and the storyline and relationships were believable. I was left wanting more. Although I have an idea of what happened in the end, I still felt like I had questions unanswered and I wanted to know what happened after the story ended. Overall I really enjoyed this book.

This book is so crazy! I couldn't stop reading it! I honestly didn't know if I would like this book. I don't read a lot of parallel universe books, have never really liked them. But this was great! This was another great read. I found it very emotional at times, as it deals with loss. It is one of my favorites, and well worth a read. The ending was quite surprising as well; not what I was expecting at least. I really connected with the main character, Anna, she was developed quite nicely. I hate stories without proper character development, if I cant see and feel what they are experiencing, I lose interest; trust me, that won't happen with this book!

A fast-paced book centered around time travel. I couldn't put this book down because I was so wrapped up in the story that I just had to know what was going to happen next. I've read a couple of Michelle Madows books and I have loved every single one. She has a way of writing books with really likeable characters and an extremely intriguing storyline. The time travel added a very interesting twist to the story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was really worried about the ending but she managed to finish the story beautifully.
If this book has you intrigued, definitely give it a chance, I know you won't be disappointed!

Another great read from Madow! This novel ranks up there with anything she's written.

I liked it; I loved it; it deserves 5 stars. but i just can't bring myself to give it that final star (I've changed it thrice already, back and forth from four to five) because of the ending. No spoilers, but I have a low threshold for ambiguity sometimes, and this is one of those times.

Still, a lovely book and a fine read!

EDIT: Madow has a follow-up, free to her fans, which resolves the questions I had about the ending. Therefore, there is no way to avoid granting the 5th star Collide so richly deserves!

From the very first page to the last, you are kept on the edge of your seat, wanting to know what's going to happen next. This was a first for me, since I've never read any book with a parallel universe. It had me confused at first, to be honest; but I quickly figured it out and enjoyed it!!
The characters are amazing, you feel like you could be a part of their groups. Without giving anything away, this was a great "who did it". The final outcome was visible, but also had you guessing it could be someone else. I just wish there was going to be a second book to this, because HOLY CLIFFHANGER!!! Interesting twist on the multi universe thoery of every possibility living parallel. For the souls that live may end to soon you may get a chance to fix it all. But this girl Anna got some fight in her and won't give up so easily. You just have to read this one to see how strong she is.

The premise - Anna goes to a school dance with her boyfriend and someone starts shooting while she's dancing with her boyfriend. Anna's boyfriend is shot and dies in her arms. Anna feels a blinding pain in her head and blacks out. She wakes up in her bed 5 days before the shooting and discovers she's in a parallel world reliving the days before the shooting. Many thing are different. One of the best being that her mother is still alive.

It's hard for me to rate this book because parts of it were simply outstanding and worthy of 5 stars, but others were less. I really like Michelle Madow's writing and have read several of her books. They are mostly well written and often some parts will stay with me after I'm done.

What I loved - the premise and all of the main characters. The tension and the drama. I was captivated. I stayed up to finish the book. I also love that her teenagers were not portrayed too old or too young. There wasn't too much angst. I also loved the interplay between the characters.

What I didn't love - I was able to figure out the shooter very early in the book. While Ms.Madow left clues to others possibly being the shooter, no one in the book even considered the possibility of the actual shooter. That character was too undeveloped. I also didn't like the ending. Technically, it ended and technically it's a stand alone with a happy ending. But one is left with a sense of "wait what happened to,,,?" It's a great ploy to get one to read the next book because you can't help but want to know more. Unfortunately, there isn't another book so one is left with unanswered questions that were raised during the book..

I loved the entire book it was super awesome. I would give it five stars if anywhere notated in the book or on her website (I checked immediately) mentions there being another book. If another book comes out and I get a huge answer I need in order to actually enjoy the book I'll change the stars to five. The story is summed up but a huge part is left hanging for me and I didn't enjoy that especially if she never visits this book or series again. It was an awesome concept that I had never read before and loved the detective work the reader does. I did guess who it was long before it was revealed. I did enjoy this book. The premise was amazing and the suspense was great. But it was predictable. I figured out within the 1st 50 pages who the shooter was. i quite enjoyed this book as a whole. i found it extremely intriguing. with most books, i tend to be able to guess the end before it's anywhere near. i mean, the elementals series (also by madow) were extremely predictable. this book, not so much. i had guessed a couple people as the shooter, but it was none of the ones i thought. one thing i don't like is how the murderer was shown as having a mental illness. as if mentally ill people need even more stigma around them ......

madow has a habit of writing bitchy female characters. i'm not going to say i was surprised that it happened in collide too. i really liked the friendship between claire and anna.

one thing that absolutely pissed me off was the fact that anna got mad over something that her boyfriend did before they were even together. anna seemed extremely immature, even though she was often being praised for the opposite. anna is stuck in this situation where she's not in her "normal" world anymore, but all she really seems concerned about is her boyfriend(s?)/the silly love triangle.

one thing i particularly loved about this book is the writing style. i read this book so quickly. the pacing is really good. there were some points i just skipped over as it was a little repetitive, but overall i didn't quite mind.

i think my favourite thing about this book was the mystery about how/why she was in this other world and who the killer was. unfortunately we don't get many answers in the end regarding the world. i wish we had. was anna in a parallel universe? was she dreaming? or was she in a coma? who knows.
