This series reads like something written by a talented but very young author. The protagonist seems like a Mary Sue for the author, a character the author is obviously very impressed by, though I personally found him to be insufferable. The author literally writes that Nate Temple is charming - over and over - but he is an arrogant jerk. Every woman encountered is a knockout and most of them drool over Nate, which is amazingly sexist. Silvers writes for jokes most of the time and is legitimately funny about 10% of the time. There are some clever turns of phrase, but the writing suffers from problems that seem like they should have been solved by an editor or even a proofreader. It is peppered with words that are italicized or capitalized for no apparent reason and close-sounding but incorrect words. The author also sets up contradictory situations that he doesn't resolve. I mostly read it because I needed something to read and I love the Harry Dresden series. This is no Harry Dresden nor Jim Butcher. Read the series because it is cheap and mildly entertaining, but not because you expect the next Jim Butcher.

Nate Temple is a wizard from an extremely long line of famous powerful wizards. He owns a bookstore, and collects magical and rare books. He also finds special, and rare books for clients. After the tragic death of his parents he begins his new life as Master Temple, the last of his line of wizards. Oh yeah did I forget to mention that all the fairy tales out there are really stories about the magical beings of the world? The Minotaur is real. In fact Nate gets off on cowtipping the Minotaur! Nate discovers the truth about some of these tales as he starts to look for his parents killer. Little does he know that his life has really only just begun!

This is one of the best series of books I've read, since I discovered the Dresden Files! Shayne Silvers has channeled many different great series and authors, to create the very unique world of Nate Temple! This series is action packed, fast paced, funny, and full of so many surprises. You never know what's going to happen, or how one small thing ends up being a seed that grows into a huge plot twist later. The characters are so well developed, and they draw you into the story. The story is so emotional, and you feel like you are there going through everything with the characters. The series is very well developed, and I'm so happy the author has plans for many more Nate Temple novels. I truly feel that it needs to be nominated for multiple awards. Shayne Silvers is definitely an up and coming author to watch! I highly recommend checking out this series!

This fairy tale with a twist introduces Nate Temple, scion of a multi-million dollar industrial tycoon and a witch
with an independent streak that's seen him live as a rich playboy, rather than follow in his father's footsteps.
On a hunch Nate, also a wizard, decides to buy at auction an original copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales, put up for sale by
a family friend of his father's The problems really start when Nate's successful in his bid and goes to collect his prized
new possession...

What does Nate suspect about the book, from rumors he's heard? Who put it into the auction - and why?
Who is Gunnar and what is so special about him? How does he help Nate in his hunt for the book?
Who has stolen the book and where do Nate and Gunnar go to find him?
Why does Nate summon a Sprite and what unexpected result does he get from it?

As threat follows hope and terror stalks the darkness Nate and Gunnar will need all the help they can get, in this novella I can highly
recommend to fans of fairy tales without the 'Disney-effect', handsome protagonists and fantasy thrillers - in other words this means you!

This series has quickly become one of my absolute favorites. It has just enough of everything. The humor and snark are deliciously dark, there is enough danger for the adrenaline enthusiasts, magic aplenty, and a love story that stays a good distance away from mush. My inner nerd even finds enough references to read along happily.
There is violence, and it can be graphic, but not overly so. The main character, Nate, has a rather foul mouth on him and is fluent in profanity. It made my little black heart happy, but it's not for everyone. So beware if that sort of thing offends you.
Silvers has mastered the art of sweeping his readers into and along with the story. The world he has developed is dynamic and vibrant. The characters are lovable and easy to relate to. Even when you shake your head at them. I especially enjoyed getting a glimpse of Nate, before he became Master Temple, in Fairy Tale. You get to see his family dynamics, and his parents become characters as well. They are no longer just questions and memories, if only briefly.
These are enjoyable stories that I had no desire to put down and was sad to reach the end of. The wait for the next book is going to feel like forever, December is so far away!

Not quite as good as Jim Butcher, but still good. These are great stories, really, and the writing is quite good (plotting, characterization, etc). BUT, I am a teacher of English and other languages, and the author’s constant use of the nominative pronoun ‘I’ instead of the objective pronoun ‘me’ is extremely annoying. “He looked at Gunnar and I”, for example. No, since he looked at me, he looked at Gunnar and me. Likewise, the cat followed me; therefore, the cat followed Dean and me down the hall. He did not look at I, nor did the cat follow I. This is elementary English grammar, and it isn’t hard to check which pronoun is correct. Does it matter? Yes, it does. It ruins the flow of the sentence. It distracts the reader, who then has to reread the sentence. I know some of you will frown on this review, but an author needs to know where he needs to improve. And this is an easy fix.

Great read I love the series. But. He spends way to much time rehashing what was done in previous books. Way to much. He makes comments on his friends constantly. He will comment on Gunner in chapter 1 then he will do it all through the book. Know what I got it the first time I read it.
Same with other characters. Then it is very rushed. It always seems he has a time limit of 3 days. You can’t possibly get everything done in 3 days that he does. If author didn’t spend so much time rehashing then it might be filled in with actual doings. And why is it always winter? Starts in winter. End book still winter. Next book 2 months later still winter. Next book 2 more months have past and still winter. I am on book 5 and guess what. It is late fall turning into winter
Other than that. If you like wizards and magic you will like it. Just don’t read redundant parts. I look forward to the others in the series.

I was intrigued by this series, and the first book, as it is set in St. Louis, and I live in the St. Louis metropolitan area; the genre is also one of my favorites: urban fantasy; the comparison to Jim Butcher didn’t hurt, either, but that could have been a bad thing as well. With these three positive things, I was a little worried the first book wouldn’t live up to my expectations. I needn’t have worried! Nate is a very interesting character, at times a considerate, kind person, and the next a spoiled rich kid. He isn’t perfect, but he is a great character. I also really liked his friend Gunnar who made a great foil for Nate. The book was also humorous, well-written, had a great plot, and moved along really nicely. At times, maybe, there was too much description for my tastes, but not enough to really draw me out of the story. Non-stop action kept me glued to the pages of the book, waiting anxiously to see what would happen next. No cliffhanger at the end, but enough things going on to fill a series. I am going to be reading the next book in the series soon, and if it’s as good as the first one, this author will become a favorite of mine. Highly recommend!

Edited to add: I read the second book (see that one for the review which was 5 stars) and now have read the short story Fairy Tale. I continue to really love this series, and the short story was a wonderful glimpse to how Plato's Cave came about. I continue to highly recommend this series!

This boxset contains all three main books that have been released on the Kindle plus Fairy Tale which gives a great back story leading into Grimm and has now thankfully joined the set :-)

After enjoying the first Obsidian Son and then the even better Blood Debt for their varied characters, storyline and humour I was so pleased that Grimm was even better especially when read after Fairy Tale. They all had the trademark slightly dark humour from the fast paced start and the momentum continued throughout the books so that I didn't want to put them down until I had finished.

If you enjoy myth based fantasy with engaging storylines, characters that you can laugh and empathise with and slightly dark humour then this series is most definitely for you :-)

The story is good. Fun and enjoyable. The writing needs some work, and really needs better editing. I keep running into words used incorrectly belying instead of implying, for example, or "sauntered" when the character is unhappy and pensive, etc. I also keep running into things like "scene" when it should be "seen." Multiple (I quit counting) uses of "you're" instead of "your", "to" instead of "too", and so on. Really, I am trying to read a published book, not a Facebook post. I won't be re-reading, because it just got so tedious. If this were a hard-copy of a book, I would have taken a red pen to it and sent it back to the publisher with a demand for a refund.

The biggest issue I am having though is the way women are all portrayed. Seriously, I don't need three pages of how beautiful their breasts are. All the women are madly in lust with Temple, and he's madly in lust with all of them, and it gets a bit tiresome. Additionally, they're stereotypes. They're angry, moody, and determined to be "as good as the men" instead of communicating or working with their partner.

Ginormous plot holes abound. Times where the protagonist (a pretty narcissistic self-entitled dude, seriously) learns information and two pages later forgets all about it, even though in storyline it's only been an hour. Come on, dude. You can't claim to be a genius and have an eidetic memory one page and forget everything someone told you the next. That doesn't fly.

That said, there's promise. Just put in more storyline, sew up the gaping plot holes and numerous disparities, and have a lot less over the top descriptions of the women as objects, and for the sake of grammar Nazis everywhere, hire a new editor. I'm glad I didn't pay for this book and I won't be paying for any further.

I came across this series through kindle unlimited. I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised and ended up binge reading through the three books over the weekend. Once I started I didn't want put the books down. The main character Nate Temple is sarcastic and funny. I like how the books blend multiple genres of fantasy (mythological people and beasts, Angles and Demons, etc.) I definitely recommend this series and can't wait for the next book in Dec.

First thing, I cared about the characters, and liked the world they lived in. I wanted to go back there often. Putting all three books together just made it that much easier for me to find, thus more likely to continue reading. Fun reading, exciting story enough twists to make it suspenseful. Big plus, I appreciated the lack of raunchy scenes. If the story and characters are strong enough, you don’t really need it. Love and attraction are enough to whet the imagination. Overall a fun read.

As a huge fan of the Harry Dresden series, I've often looked for a series just to "fill the void" until the next book comes out. I ran across the Temple series as an ad on Facebook, and the price (FREE!!!!) was very appealing. At first it felt quite similar to Butcher's works, a lone wizard in the Midwest, but the inclusion of close friends and a family gave the character something Harry isn't lucky enough to have. The level of character development and depth by Silvers is something that you usually only see in a Stephen King novel, and you feel more attached to the characters than you want to when something terrible happens, and it happens a lot. Silvers will tug at your emotions by damaging the relationships in the books, and due to my current situation in life, Grimm was very difficult to read at times. However, I just could not put this series down, and flew through the novels. Can't wait for Book 4 in December!!!

If you're looking for a great series full of suspense, sarcasm, humor, excitement and all around adventure you won't find a better series to fulfill your cravings. Shayne Silvers is one of my new favorite authors. Had to know more about him so I looked him up on Facebook and joined the group of fans. Not only that but I just found out he has book #5 coming out soon titled "Silver Tongue" and I can hardly wait. Check out what he's got going on. I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed.

It had a couple rough spots, slow spots, unexplained spots. But boy howdy, what a fun group of characters. It was enjoyable seeing them evolve and change. Mr. Silvers kept me guessing and managed to surprise me a few times. Nate Temple is a truly enjoyable character, and I'm excited to see how he manages to come back from the mess his life seems to have become. What's with the white room, and does he pull Temple industries back to good? Well played, Mr. Silvers.

Please, get an editor. I understand there is a cost to do so, but you really do need a second set of eyes looking at your novels, before you sell them. I enjoy your stories, but grammar, spelling, and continuity issues serve to distract from the storyline. Please, get yourself an editor.

I honestly can't say enough about this series. I absolutely loved the story, the characters, the writing style...Silvers combines fantasy with just the right amount of humor to take it to the next level without being too over the top.
I give the books 4 stars for the simple reason that, they are an obvious derivative of Jim Butchers, Dresden Files series, of which I am also a big fan. That being said, Silvers has gone just that little step higher and perfected his own character.

Shayne Silvers is definitely an author to watch!

I enjoyed this series thoroughly! While there are graphic depictions of violence, they are appropriate for the story line. I rarely write reviews for books but I felt this one deserved my kudos. I read voraciously and devoured all the books in this series in short order. I am eagerly awaiting the next (and hopefully more than one) book in this highly entertaining series. Thank you Shayne Silvers!

Five Stars, All The Way!!
When i began this bundle, I really didn't know what I was getting into. I'm so very glad I picked this up. The only issue I had was trying to find the time to be able to read it because i literally didnt want to put it down. The author does a great job with character building to the point they feel like your friends. At least some of them, others are enemies or people Nate doesn't trust. I love a good wizard novel and the fact this is such a great series is such a huge bonus. The story is responsible for a gambit of emotions by its readers which makes continuing to read the series a must. I feel like I just have to know what the characters will be doing next and where the storyline will take them. I can't wait!!

I will be honest and say the Fairytale's book kind of threw me, confused me, at first. Then in the last book, I saw why the necessity for the little short story. It's a link that's needed so we, the readers can make connections between occurrences and characters from the past. The author handled this well although I caught myself on occasion trying to reassure myself of time frames. But like i said, those only happened once or twice. I am so excited to move on to the next book, Silver Tongue and see what type of trouble our famous Maker can get into. ;-)

Excellent books! The writing is funny, exciting, intelligent and even a little sad at times. The main characters are very entertaining and I really like the secondary characters too. The feuds and friendships are off the charts too. If you haven't read these books yet don't hesitate to get them!

So after finishing the first 3 books in the series I have to say I am thoroughly hooked on the Nate Temple adventures. He's a smug prick at time but damn is written well! There was action, intrigue and heartfelt moments all while cracking jokes. For fans of Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Craig Schaefer or John Conroe I 100% recommend reading this whole series as they are entertaining from start to finish!

I really enjoyed these books. Nate is both lighthearted and deadly. Subordinate characters are fleshed out well, and mesh well with the plots. Nothing too raunchy, but there's enough to keep you interested. It would be good to hear a little more about the St. Louis area. One problem: There are glaring vocabulary , grammar, and just plain spelling errors throughout. Someone needsdneedsd to use spell and crammer check!

Very good, I was dubious at first because of the advertising reference to the Dresden Files, but overall I found this series to be very enjoyable, fun, light hearted at times, and all in all great bang for the buck. The main character was sometimes awkward in the first book but became very well developed in the sequels. You should read this series!

I am halfway into the second book and struggling with the motives and the bad decisions made by the antagonists. I feel like bad things are happening to the protagonist because it fits a narrative, not because a villian is pursuing a credible course to achieve a goal. I give it 3 stars because it has some high points but i have to extend verisimilitude to motives.

I wasn't sure I would like this series when I first "met" Nate Temple. He was, after all, arrogant, rich and powerful, and really a little too full of himself. But Nate grows and grows on you, developing into a character worth investing time in. Well-written, loaded with intriguing characters and amazing plots. This was a great bundle!

I love the character development and the fact that the females can be just as fierce despite the guys always trying to protect them. The freaks are just as complicated as humans when it comes to love, hate loyalty and fear...they just have better weapons! I could not put the books down for wanting to know what's next. I identified a bit too much I think with Nates snarky attitude?.

If the reader can manage to overlook the mary sue main character, it can be an enjoyable quick read. Jim Butcher, Shayne Silvers is not, but it was a nice way to spend a couple of hours. That said, not going to rush out to by more of his work. The price was definitely right for this set- essentially free as I read via the KU program.

You have to read these books, now. I generally read a book about once a year or so, it's just not for me. But these books I couldn't get enough of. I think I tackled these four books in about 7 days combined (there wasn't this fancy bundle of them when I started). They are incredible! Do yourself a favor and get started on these books as soon as possible. You'll instantly be transported to a place much more magical than Hogwarts, Narnia, or Middle Earth, I'm talking about ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI!!! Whooo!!!! Get started today on what you will eventually get to be disappointed in at theaters because "it isn't as good as the books!" Shayne, write books faster, I'm trying to get up to two books a year.

What's better than finding a new series, in a genre you didn't know existed? Finding a REALLY GOOD new series, that brings together clever writing, attention to detail, descriptive but entertaining set-up, and lots of snort worthy puns and one-liners.

But do you know what's better than THAT? Finding out that the first four are available in a box set, which means I now have a spare first copy to loan out, without breaking up the set, or worrying someone will hurt my babies, all pretty, and matching.

I am in love with the Nate Temple series!!! I first met Nate in a box set of short stories and loved him from the get. He's funny, smart, handsome and loyal. His smart mouth and attitude make you root for him every time! Shayne Silvers has an awesome ability to bring these characters to life. I wish they were my friends! I laugh, I get mad and I cry right along with them! I even want to be Count Sparkula for Halloween!! These characters and story lines are brilliant, I just can't get enough! Keep on bringing it Shayne!!

As a fan of Jim Butcher's Dresden series I took a chance on Nate Temple and I am glad that I did. While not a copy of Dresden (thankfully)(we already have one) Temple is his own brand of wizard, complete with his own problems and hangups. I will never desert Jim Butcher, but I will definitely add Shayne Silver.

This author is amazing. His books are incredible. The books are witty and entertaining. The characters are larger than life. I cannot do this collection justice with a description. If Harry Dresden and Lucifer (from the tv show) had a baby, it would be Nate Temple. Get the books...you won't regret it.

Best series I've read in a loooooong time. I hate to mention Dresden here because Nate is worthy of his own 'Slot at the top'. I have just finished the third in this series, thank the Maker! Now I can finally put the iPad down & focus on some work! Time for some delayed gratification before I get the fourth. I have reviewed & commented on the story on the previous 2 before. Suffice to say the captivating continues. I have read a lot of new authors recently, most very good, some O.K. & some I wouldn't review. However for holding my attention
& making getting on with life difficult, I would have to put this in the Pritchett
,JK Rowling, Anne Mc Caffrey,LE Modesitt , Michael Moorcock type league, to name but a few. If you don't like any of these authors, you are probably not going to like these stories, but if you do, you may find them irresistible especially if you are into magical mysteries.
(Magic is only science we don't understand yet).

Love it. Get it, read it, and you'll love it too. Rare is the newer wizard story that doesn't bring to mind other characters and writers but Nate is very much his own character. Even rarer is the writer that makes me really care about the characters. Won't lie, I cried at the end of the third book. Can't wait to read more- may Nate live for as many books as my now second favorite wizard.

This is schoolboy rewrite of Dresden files: rich heir can do best majic in the world, pissing off everyone except beautiful and intelligent woman, Riders of Apocalypse and his supernatural friends. No issues with technology and hot water, lots of pianos in the bushes, characters cut from the cardboard.... but author is enjoying himself and this is catchy.
Treat it like anime plot, enjoy and forget.

All I can say is that I had never heard of Nate Temple, and I was curious about the series. At first I thought this book was a parallel to an other wizard that utilizes a wooden staff, and also had a chip on his shoulder. However I quickly found Master Temple to be a truly unique character, with a witty razor sharp tongue, and the magical chops to hold his own. Read these books and you will not be disappointed!

These books kept showing up in my recommended list, and I am glad that I finally gave them a try. If you are a fan of urban fantasy, and authors like John Conroe, or Rob Thurman, you should enjoy this series.

Thoroughly enjoyed. Rarely like first person stories, but Shayne, well, well done. Had to drive into town to get the next two books. Hooked. Thanks so much for keeping it fantasy even with angels, demons, and historical 'gods'.

This reads like it was a written by a middle school student. Specifically, one who had not written anything before. Cliched, stilted, and unoriginal would be the words I would use to describe it. I do not like to leave negative reviews, but these books are really awful. If the plot or characters interest you, see if you can find a library that has them.
