I really enjoyed reading about Noelle and Gabriel. Noelle was such a positive character, which lent to Gabriel's growth. It was nice to see the insecurity in Gabriel and how that played together with Noelle's character. This story was such a fun Christmas story with the right amount of tension and subplot story really added much more dimension to the characters. The dialogue/banter was delightfully cute and funny. It's so hard to pick a favorite Mallery book, but this definitely the best of her Christmas ones. I love visiting Fool's Gold and even though I missed this the first time it was published I enjoyed the read. It was a fun lighthearted romance.

I like Susan Mallery but this series is getting ridiculous. It's the exact same thing every time! Guy meets girl and they like each other. Guy is afraid of commitment and runs away at the last minute only to come back in the end. Doesn't Susan Mallery know there are other ways to create conflict that ends happily? It not just the usual romance formula that bothers me. In every single book all the women of the town come over with drinks and food to comfort the dumped girl. I mean I'm all for your friends being there for you but Ms Mallery doesn't even have to write this part anymore. All she has to do is swap the name out! The scene at the cabin was so silly. There's a cabin in the woods that the town owns with electricity, homemade casseroles in the freeze and let's not forget the condoms that the town supplies! REALLY.
I only tried another fools gold installment because it was set at Christmas time and I was in the mood for a holiday romance. I really didn't get a great holiday feel from this book. Yes, the main character own's a Christmas store but it just didn't give me that warm and cozy holiday feel.
I really think its time to move on from fools gold and for Ms Mallery to write an original book.
Sadly over this series.

Returning to Fool's Gold is like having a reunion with dear friends. I especially enjoyed sharing Christmas with these characters who are so well drawn that they become real each time I read one of the books. Ms. Mallery creates believable situations and writes realistic dialog. As a creative writing/English teacher, I have a real issue with stilted (perfect) dialog. Reading the dialog in these books is like eavesdropping on real conversations!
