A well written account of the Danish culture; however, there's not much light shed on the socialism and economics which plays a big part in the culture. Nor any mention that they still have a monarchy.

A pleasant book that reminds us about the importance of small things. There are no new or exciting revelations about happiness or why Danes score higher on this scale than other nationalities. It is an enjoyable read about why they do.

Incredibly annoying writing style. It is almost like a Mean Girls-esque girl telling you: 'So this pink skirt? Totally fetch. This African bangle? Totally NOT fetch. But this plaid purse? Totally fetch.'
There is no depth in the writing and it is a total bore. Here's what you can take away from the book without having to read it:
1) make sure you have a lot of close friends to be totally hygge with, and who you can quietly sit with around a fire, only to break the silence in order to comment on how hygge the moment is
2) light candles all day, every day
3) did I mention that you must always comment on how hygge you are, and how hygge whatever it is that you're doing is?

Listen, I get what he's trying to say. But it is redundant and childishly written. Save your $10 and just flip through it at your local Barnes and Nobles.

Originally borrowed this book from the library and had to buy myself a copy to keep. The book is incredibly well-designed - from the perfectly sized book itself that fits comfortably in one hand while you sip some tea to the calm colors and easy to understand charts + graphics. I really appreciated the authors thorough analysis of the history of Hygge, how other cultures incorporate their own version of the practice, and breakdown of hygge components.

We lead busy, jam-packed lives. This book helped me find ways big and small to slow down, take an afternoon mindfulness break, turn on the fireplace more, and enjoy moments of calm. It would make a great gift - to a loved one or simply to yourself. You deserve it.

An overall interesting read, but nothing earth-shattering in my opinion. It talks about how hygge, a Danish concept that everyone can understand once explained, makes people overall happier. It shares ideas on how to bring hygge into your own life, both through actions and surroundings. It gave some good tips that I'd definitely like to incorporate into my own day-to-day.

I really loved this little book, I intuitively do all the things the book recommends - I love all the snuggling, cozy ways to relax. So important to SLOOW down in our society. I smiled holding my cup of tea as I read each page.

These little books about Scandinavian cultures are becoming all the rage. This particular book was okay. It made for good background noise. I wasn't necessarily impressed by the contents of the book since the author seemed to really just be speculating about what Hygge could be versus what it actually was. Therefore, the book felt less absolute and more like a speculative "Self-help" book. I may eventually read the other books in the series, but I don't plan on rushing to do so.
