I have read almost every book he has written. This book although entertaining did not move me like many of his other books such as the Dave and Clint
Those books almost always had a philosophiCal observat ion about the characters or times in which story took place. This book was not so strong in that regard.

Entertaining, although I didn't find that it quite measured up to the writing style and plot-themes previously encountered within the numerous Dave Robicheaux stories that I've read and thoroughly enjoyed over the years,

James Lee Burke believes that this book is among his best. Having read so many of his books myself, I believe that "The Jealous Kind" is the best. The depth of characters, no matter how important, is remarkable and the author has captured Houston in a way, as a native Houstonian, I could not have expected. This is a great book in every respect.

This is without doubt Burke's poorest book. It lacks focus and the entire story appears rather pointless. The characters, including Aaron (the main protagonist) are very poorly developed and basically also quite implausible. Burke has Aaron, a 17-year old, being a competitive rodeo rider and he moves around criminals and mafia people with way too much ease. What a disappointment!

James Lee Burke has a way off quietly sneaking up on you...his stories always start in a languid, humid voice and meander through the narrative until the climax, which is not always what you'd expect.

James Lee Burke is one of the greatest American authors hands down. He transcends time and brings to his writing a humanity that makes you reflect on life. This book completely absorbs you in innocence, loyalty and friendship. The imagery in which he writes takes me into the landscape the people and the story he tells.

I have always enjoyed James Lee Burke's writing but I thought this was the best book he has written. At the period of time this book was written about I was about the same age as the protagonist and lived the the same area as he did. Brought back many memories.

I am continually awed by James Lee Burke writing. He seems to be getting better with each work he creates. The Jealous Kind harkend to an earlier historical time, with very well drawn characters, ambience and a fascinating story line. Well worth reading if you like Burkes other books featuring Dave, Cleve or Billy Bob Holland.

Burke's protagonist, young Aaron Holland, resonates with the others his readers love so much, Dave Robischeaux, Hackberry Holland, and Billy Bob Holland. Aaron passage through the race and class stuggles of the 50's is epic, and carries a message sadly appropriate to our times: The only appropriate response to misogeny, racism, xenophobia, fear, and greed, is to live guided by love, integrity, and honor.

Another wonderful story told by James Lee Burke full of gorgeous prose. Although it's not my favorite, I found it a quick read. I was amazed at the maturity of the lead character. Wish I had his vision in my teens.

This is definitely a James Lee Burke book. Classic style, prose of JLB. Set in the early '50s, in Houston, TX, our main character is a young man, 17 yrs old. I didn't really identify this story as a Holland Family novel, it wasn't dealing with the same age set.

Excellent story from one of America's best writers. Burke has a unique ability to weave lyrical descriptions with horrifying violence. This is a book that will haunt you long after you have turned the last page.
