Don't underestimate anyone! Charles was abused by his middle/upper middle class parents and he says that he was at fault for his problems but in reality his parents were at fault. He is too ready to blame himself. He is full of wisdom and humor and seems to have learned from the mistakes he made in life. This is a good guy. An interesting book. I wish him nothing but happiness.

I enjoyed Mr. Ramsey's interview on the news when these ladies were rescued and I mostly bought the book to make my very small contribution to his account because he deserves it. What he did to help those women was wonderful. His impulsive nature may have been the stuff that enabled him to do it, but it did not seem to serve him well in other aspects of his life.
While the book was amusing, he is funny, I was struck by a grown man's immaturity and felt that he was still stuck in high school as he relates all his teenaged pranks and such. Most of us outgrow that stuff. I was appalled at his horrible treatment of his parents, and that treatment seems to continue. It appears that his father is still employed in Ohio and remarks Mr. Ramsey made in the book would be harmful to his professional reputation, which may be Mr. Ramsey's intent. Still playing that chess game, I guess.
The last section of the book when Mr. Ramsey talks about his political beliefs was my favorite part. His attitude regarding politics was very refreshing.

Fast, FUNNY easy to read book. Charles Ramsey's life story has truly touched my heart. I knew he was a Special man the day he showed up on tv because he had rescued those poor helpless girls. Thank you for sharing your life story.... God has a Special place for him in Heaven! GOD BLESS YOU CHARLES RAMSEY!

Disappointing, filled with extreme trash talk, I could not finish the last 40% of the book as I was skipping half of the words. It s too bad the story could not have been told with a bit of dignity. I wasted my money on this one, for sure.

I rated this one star because I purchased the book in order to help out a fellow human being who did a good turn for these ladies who had suffered so much in Ariel Castro's clutches. Mr. Ramsey is quite the character but for him to write an autobiography detailing all of his family and personal drama was unnecessary, and, quite frankly, quite boring after the initial curiosity. I wish him the best of luck but it just wasn't all that.

Alright, just finished reading Ramsey's story. First of all, it's definitely Ramsey's voice. You can tell where the co-author polished up the writing, but as a whole, it's easy to imagine Charles Ramsey telling this story. The voice is authentic, and it's full of profanity, mostly used for comedic effect.
As a native Clevelander, I enjoyed reading about the references to the places and people around Cleveland. In a way, it's sad that the only national news we've heard from is about kidnapped girls, but at least Ramsey helped that story have as good of an ending as possible.
In his intro, Ramsey said that his book will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you angry. I'm not sure his book elicited all of those emotions from me, but I did laugh a lot.
As a whole, the book is a very quick and easy read, but it's fun. Ramsey has a way with words, at one point comparing the size of someone's eyes to the size of Ariel Castro's nuts!

OMG, I realize that there has to be some sensational stories to keep the readers interest, but this guy is a total DB. In his own words, he completely terrorizes his family, which, really didn't deserve tis guys stupid antics. He did one good thing in his life and that was to help the girls on Seymour.

Although Charles exhibited such an heroic act in saving those girls, I just hate I wasted money in purchasing his book. This is an ignorant man with such dislike and disrespect for the President of the United States of America. I truly question his loyalty to our country. He should just be ignored. Folk should shun this gun.

Not only is Charles Ramsey an all American hero, he's also a fantastic story teller...... Had tears streaming down my cheeks reading his tales of mischief, antics and practical jokes.......!! I could give a hoot about what his past involved.... The bottom line is that he didn't hesitate during the moment of truth, when many would have...... He brought down a real life evil monster.... It was the ultimate selfless act, period..... You're a great guy Mr Ramsey................ We can all learn from your courage.... I know I have..... Sometimes you just have to risk all and do the right thing.......

This just in: Publisher Can't Be Bothered To Justify Text In Kindle Book.
Despite the distraction of amateurish formatting in the Kindle edition, I found this book to be an interesting read. Ghostwriting brings us a voice that otherwise would only be heard -- and misunderstood -- in sound bites.

I truly believed this entire book was a joke that would eventually be unveiled at the end. Sadly, it just is what it is - I think. The book is one long tale of the making of a loser. Charles Ramsey is not some thug with "street cred" as he would really LOVE for us to believe. He was raised well in an affluent family with seemingly unlimited monetary resources to bail him out of his silly and petty crimes. He was given job after job but he just couldn't keep it together and make a life for himself. He sells drugs only because, well I don't know why. He was given ENDLESS opportunities for education but simply used it as a ruse to get more money from his father. His father's money is actually what he used to get his drug dealing started - he didn't even have to do that the hard way! Along the way we are treated to a series of anecdotes seemingly in support of his theory that he was ABUSED (oh please). But these tales are peppered with obvious lies. For example his meany pants father withheld his ARMLOADS of Christmas gifts one year while he sat back "watching golf on television". What golf on tv at Christmastime? He goes on to explain that after two days his father did come in bearing "armloads of gifts" but he feels this is a prime example of how his father traumatized him as a child. Really? Some kids, Michelle Knight was one, didn't recieve any Christmas presents but don't wind up unable to work and in prison. His big prison gigs, by the way, were for domestic violence, drug dealing, and breaking into his parents' house. It seems that Mr. Ramsey managed to steal tens of thousands of dollars from his father over the years (and that's only what he has willingly put in print so who knows). You see what I mean? This has to be some joke, right? There are other examples of blatant falsehoods just BEGGING to be called out. So at the end, the book tries to become some sort of political speech or call to arms perhaps but there too the ideas discussed are silly, immature, and just plain simplified stupid. Fox News written by eighth graders. It is, right? It has to be a big social commentary joke. The affluent-ivy league-BLACK kid who still manages to be a drug dealing- wife beating- ex-con- thief who yet again STILL manages to capture America's love and attention AND all the while manages to never "get it" and use what is given to him to rise above!? All the shackles and chains metaphors!? No? Not a joke? I would still only give it one more star if it was.
