150 of the World's Greatest Hymn Stories - Then Sings My Soul

I loved learning the stories behind my favorite hymns. How wonderful to learn something of what inspired these Christians to pen the words and music that live through the ages. This would be a wonderful help to Sunday School teachers. IMO

I love reading about the history of the hymns and who wrote them and why...with the meaning behind them. Plus the lyrics and music notes, if you want to sing them. My neighbor had one and I just had to get one for myself.

If you like knowing where hymns got their start, this book and the other two are for you. Very interesting and they include the "lost" or "forgotten" verses of some hymns, too. I really enjoy these books.

These books (there are more than the one...we own two of them) are the great stories behind the hymns we're all so familiar with. AND, the music is included for those who have a piano (or some other msical instrument). We found them very interesting.

This is a wonderful book to read devotionally. It takes you from the earliest hymns of the church to some relatively modern choruses. I found myself both praying many of these songs as I read them daily.

I use this book for many reasons. Reading it helps me to know a little about the sacrifice that went into writing the book. It is a wonderful way to understand why the songs were penned. the older songs are always the best one.

Rob Morgan, my college roommate from many years ago, and a brilliantly simple style, knows how to shape concepts and convey them to everyone. Every book he writes has the capacity to keep you spell-bound. Incredible.

This shipped fast. I just love this book. You have the song on one side of the page and on the other side is all about the author and how the author was inspiored to write the song. It makes for good reading as well as informative.

If you have a Christian musician as a family member or friend, this is a great gift. We have given this book to music teachers, grandparents, and music students. If you love the old hymns, you will find the stories behind them fascinating. A great read!

Exactly what I was looking for! These beautiful old hymns that are seldomly heard now! Prayers in themselves. Now I just wish I could find a radio station to play them, or have my Alexa know where to locate them on a Pandora.

I love how this book includes the musical score and a story for each hymn (usually about the person who wrote the words). The hymn is on the left page, the story on the right. It's interesting to learn the history behind each hymn, and about the people who wrote them.

A great book that gives more meaning to the wonderful songs I have sung in church and everywhere else. Sometimes the stories that led to the creation of the song were even more special than the song itself.

I have purchased this volume before for myself as well as gifts and am sure I will do so again! This is an enjoyable-actually addicting read-with well researched details of the origins of beloved hymns.Highly recommend!

I gave this book to four family members for Christmas. The lucky people who got this book were amazed. They read excerpts before leaving the Christmas family party. One said she was teary-eyed after just reading about one song, Just As I Am. I will be ordering more copies of this lovely book.

It's the kind of book you can take up and read a page or read several stories. Lots of people like to learn about the songs they have sung their whole lives. The stories are amazing and often never told. Several of my friends loved it so much that they have other friends now wanting a copy of this book. I scored! The hymn selection is very good, too.
