I was really excited to read this book and it lived up to my expectations. I really wanted to read more about Link and Ridley and the Caster world, and what happened after they graduated from high school. And I can finally find out. You won't be disappointed with this book. I recommend you read it.

I love the way that Ridley fight against her feelings, that's why I give to the story 3 stars. However, I ended the book with the need of action, but I hope to find it in Dangerous Creatures.

Anyway, it a placer start reading the stories of Beautiful/Dangerous creatures, again.

One of my new favorite series. Just wish we could find out what happens to Riley after she cheats in the game and her relationship with Link. I don't think there's much more to be said on EW and Lena ...
Also still hoping for another movie!

I was a HUGE fan of the Beautiful Creatures/Caster Chronicles series, so I was thrilled to buy this eNovella for my Kindle the day it came out.

I loved how it bridged the aftermath of Ethan and Lena's story with Ridley and her current escapades. (She's sure a girl we love to hate or hate to love.)

The story was just long enough to get me interested in what the characters had been up to and then leave me wanting to know what will happen next.

I can't wait to dive into the world of the Caster Chronicles once again!

This thirty-nine page story is only a teaser, not a book! I was very dissociated after purchasing the Kindle version. I had been waiting and excited for the continuation of the Ethan and Lena only to be disappointed by the short story.

Pre-ordered this not knowing how short it was. It's absolutely ridiculous. I bought because I liked the previous books. Also thought this was an extension of Lena and Ethan's story; it's not. Needs to be much cheaper.

This purchase was disappointing. I was just getting into the story and it was over, with a cliff hanger. That's awful! There was nothing in the description before I purchased this books saying it was a short story. I assumed I was buying a regular sized (page wise) book. As with the author's other books, I loved the story line. I just wish it had been continued. :(

They need to make clear that this isn't even a short story. It's one chapter, if that. The crew hits a grad ceremony, a diner, Ridley covers Europe in three paragraphs and loses a game in a few more.
The End.
$2.99 isn't much, until you find out you $2.50 too much.

I really hate it when the store bills a book as a real book then it turns out to be a POS short story. I do not want to buy short stories. So tell me in the description it's a POS short story so I can save my time and money.

To give some background, I actually “SQUEEEEEE”-ed when I found out there was going to be a spin-off to the Beautiful Creatures series. In my dorm room. And then I ran around my room. Then I ran up and down the hall, knocking on doors to find someone who had read the Beautiful Creatures series and could celebrate with me (no one had read it). Basically, I fangirled so hard it hurt and no one understood what was going on. All I wanted to do was squeal with joy and die in a corner because of the wait.

Anyway, it is an understatement to say I was excited for even this novella. Not only was I going to get more of the magical Caster world created by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, but I was also going to get more of my ultimate OTP in the series – Link and Ridley. (SQUEEEE).

The novella is broken up into three parts with three narrators: the first section is first person Ethan; the second, third person Link; the third, third person Ridley. It was great getting some more of that Ethan Wate charm I had so missed since finishing the series, but being able to experience Link and Ridley was even better. In the Beautiful Creatures series there was not enough Linkley, but in Dangerous Dream we got a better understanding of their odd relationship.

Dangerous Dream is by no means substantial – I mean, it is a novella – but it perfectly sets up the scene for Dangerous Creatures (SQUEEEEE). As short as it was, I could not put it down and it definitely left me craving more. I hadn’t realized exactly how much I missed the world Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl created until I was right back in the Caster world as thought no time had passed.

Overall, Dangerous Dream was perfect. It stayed true to the characters and the world I grew to love in the Beautiful Creatures series and it left me dying to see how the story will play out in Dangerous Creatures. I highly recommend this novella for Beautiful Creatures fans – Dangerous Creatures is sure to be a great spin-off.

They finally made it, they are graduating high school. This novella follows Ethan, Lena, Link, and Ridley through the former three's high school graduation. They battled the world and still somehow made time for homework and studying. Woooohhoooo! Now, as things are wrapping up, everything isn't perfect in Caster-land, with obvious tension between Rid and Link, can they finally settle their issues or is their relationship doomed to failure?

I knew in the last two novels that Ridley was starting to get on my nerves. She was one of my favorite characters in Beautiful Creatures and Beautiful Darkness, but things starting going badly in Beautiful Chaos and I'm sad to say they haven't improved yet. Ridley persistently gets on my nerves now and being in her head made it ten times worse. She's selfish, sometimes stupid, and has that "I'm a bad girl so I have to play the bad girl role...even if I don't want to!" attitude that made me want to punch her in the face. Add to that the over-the-top arrogance and I've just had enough. She gets herself in a lot of trouble here. A LOT of trouble. She gets in deep with the wrong crowd and now she owes favors to the worst kind of people.

Everyone else was fine. You get just a bit more from Ethan and Lena before the perspectives switch and they were just as delightful as ever. Even Link was awesome. I really liked getting his perspective. You'd think he'd annoy me, being an almost stereotypical southern gentleman, but he plays the role with such enthusiasm that it's impossible to not love him. He oozes southern charm in such an obliviously blatant way that it just works for him. Creating such a character seems like a difficult task because there are so many ways it could backfire, so this little novella made me appreciate him that much more.

I do question the writing on the front. This says "A Beautiful Creatures Story" on the cover but it's boasted as the beginning novella to the Dangerous Creatures saga, so which is it? All you really need to know is that if you loved the previous books and all the characters involved, then you will enjoy this as well. If you didn't enjoy them, the steer clear of this as well!

It's been awhile since I've read Beautiful Creatures. In fact, it's the only book in this series that I've read. So I thought, what better way to jump start getting back into the series and finishing it before its spin off series, Dangerous Creatures releases than start with a novella?

I'm sure this is meant to be read AFTER reading the entire Beautiful Creatures series but I don't mind "spoiling" myself. Sure, I found out quite a lot about what happens in the rest of the Beautiful Creatures series but now I can try to figure out when and how all of these things happen! To any other reader who's caught up on the series, what I found to be a bundle of revelations is actually a bunch of recapping. If you think you can't recap a ton of things in three chapters, well, try reading this before finishing the series.

Anyway, in this novella, we follow Ethan before graduation as well as Lincoln and Ridley after graduation. I didn't quite understand the point of following Ethan since the spin off series follows Ridley and Lincoln. It felt like a tool to set the scene (that we're not even in very long) rather than the passing of the torch to new anchors for the spin off and even that is pretty unnecessary. I did however absolutely love following Lincoln and Ridley, especially. Ridley and her games. This girl loves a challenge. What game she finds herself playing here is the absolute perfect setup for Dangerous Creatures. But if I'm being honest, getting inside Ridley's head was the absolute highlight! Finally! Wow.

All of that to say...I cannot believe how short this novella is. I'm so not a fan of short novellas. It doesn't tie me over at all. Yes, I appreciated Lincoln's chapter and the emphasis on Ridley denying him, lying to herself about her feelings for him, and Link calling her out on it. But we know this. I know this and I've only read one book in the series. This novella could have easily been cut down to Ridley's chapter and released as a tease on Kami or Margaret's blogs leading up to Dangerous Creatures. So. Is it worth reading? Well, I really did love that Ridley chapter. So. If you love this series, go ahead and get it but if this series is not a priority, I'd wait for Dangerous Creatures.

This is quick novella, giving us a little taste of Ethan and the gang, Link's feelings, and then a big piece of Ridley, her avoidance of Link, and the set-up for Dangerous Creatures. I liked that we got to see all the couples from the previous series, even if it was briefly. I love Link, so I was excited to see that he would get a spin-off. I've never been a huge Ridley fan, and looking at her at the end of this novella still didn't make me Team Ridley, but I can see that the authors are trying to mix things up and not make this Ethan and Lena part two. Certainly Link and Ridley's interactions make things interesting. We are also introduced to some new characters that I suspect will play a role in the series, or at least the first book.

Can this be read by someone who didn't read the Beautiful Creatures series? I don't know. On the one hand, the Caster world was already developed in the previous series, and I'm not sure if the authors will be going into too much depth and history again. On the other hand, Ridley and Link read differently than Ethan and Lena, and they will be embarking onto new territory in New York, etc, so there is a lot of newness all readers will be experiencing at the same time.

Note: I received a complementary copy for my honest review. Looking at the price, I don't know that I would have paid for it considering its brevity. It did contain new information, but I'm not sure if that new info will be informed again in the next book.

*I received a free ARC of Dangerous Dream from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review*

Dangerous Dream is a very short story that starts with Ethan, Lena and Link’s high-school graduation. For the first couple of days of summer, the three of them, plus Ridley, Liv and John Breed hang out, until Link say the dreaded L-word to Ridley, and she huffs and puffs before taking off on her own. Because she doesn’t want to admit she even likes him, so she goes country-hopping to forget him.

Ridley ends up in New York after several months of traveling, and goes to a new Caster-bar to try to live things up a little more dangerously than she has been doing it lately. From there, she manages to persuade a mortal boy to bring her to a high-stake card-game. A game where all kinds of supernatural people have to leave their powers at the door, and they have to pay in talent, favors or powers. As Ridley has been able to figure out some things in advance, she is able to keep her siren song intact before entering. And up until the very last game, it seems she will win the tournament – until she is faced with a Darkborn. For once, Ridley being so self-centered might just have come back to bite her in the butt.

Dangerous Dream is an excellent introduction to the Beautiful Creatures spin-off series. Ethan definitely thought things were going to be fine after he saved the world, but it seems that not only good came from his sacrifice…

Dangerous Dream: Dangerous Creatures 0.5 is the introduction to the new Dangerous Creatures series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. It is a digital-exclusive (short) story that spins off from the Beautiful Creatures series and introduces us to the new drama, romance, and trouble that Link and Ridley will be getting themselves into.

There are quite a few references to life before this book so if you haven’t read the Beautiful Creatures series you might want to start there. I listened to all of the Beautiful Creatures books on audio and really enjoyed the series.

So to wrap up this very short review for the very short but pricey, Dangerous Dream, I will say that is an enjoyable short story. Did I mention that it is a short story? And by short I mean 47 pages for $2.99. Really???

My suggestion: Skip it and buy the 384 page book Dangerous Creatures.

Rating…I’m not sure how to rate this one. Content wise it’s enjoyable but there just isn’t enough content there to justify the price or recommend it to others. So I’m going for three stars but don’t recommend spending $2.99 on 47 pages when you can buy the eBook of book one for $5.99.

Dangerous Dream is excellent. I honestly didn't think I was going to like it,(there was another short story written to go along with this series (I won't say which one) which I completely disliked), so imagine my pleasant surprise when, in fact, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

This short story opens on graduation day. The sun is a little too hot, the speeches are a little too long and Ridley is a little too bored. Which is a very dangerous combination of 'too's for our favorite bad girl. So Ridley does what Ridley does best...spices things up Ridley style. Good thing she has her powers back because they certainly come in handy. Especially when Link drops the dreaded "L" word on her, which is a definite deal breaker. So, Ridley takes off. But no matter the distance, she can't seem to get Shrinky Dink off of her mind which is like a punch to the gut. But the even bigger punch comes when she gets back to find that Link may have moved on. To get him off of her mind, she joins a game of Liar's Trade. But are the stakes too high even for Ridley?

Dangerous Dream is well written, easy to follow, and nicely paced. I would definitely recommend it to any fan of this series!

So the good - for die hard Caster Chronicles fans, a story is a story. You hate to wait for the next book. This book was meant to fill that void. If you needed a tease of the new spin-off (Dangerous Creatures) you're probably glad that this came out first and you'll enjoy it.

The bad - it's a short novella. A totally unnecessary one. While it does give you a hint of what is in store for Link and Ridley (they take over Lena and Ethan as the main characters) it's really bland for the series and characters it is a part of.

This is the type of short story that many authors/publishers would give away as a freebie teaser. They're obviously well within their rights to charge for such a thing but the description I'd read for it basically told me all I needed to know in about 4 sentences.

For die hard fans, it's a nice addition. For folk like me who like the series but aren't going to wait in line for the books? It won't matter one bit if you read this story or not.

* Disclaimer: I received this book at no cost in order to review it. I offered no guarantee of a positive review, though I only request books I think I'll like because why read a book you think you’ll hate?

Link and Ridley both fascinated me in the original Beautiful Creatures/Caster Chronicles series and I thought at the time, I wanted to read more of their story. Kami has delivered!!!!!

This was a short story features Link and Ridley in a new spin-off series. I absolutely inhaled Beautiful Creatures/Castor Chronicles with it's original and enthralling combination of old South and paranormal and am looking forward to this new series.

In this setup novella, Link is adjusting to being a part-incubus and Ridley is back to her trouble-making, escapist ways and refusing to admit her own feelings. There's some Ethan and Lena interaction, too, as they have graduated and are heading off to college - loved that too!

One warning: IF you have not read the original Beautiful Creatures/Castor Chronicles series, I would highly recommend that you read that 1st! This could be read as a stand-alone, but the set-up of the characters in the original series, is important and that was all in the original series. Trust me... if you're a fan of YA paranormal romances, you'll love the original series!

Bring this new series on! I'm in!!!!!

4 stars!

Dangerous Dream was a Delicious Novella! I am new to the Caster world…I’ve had these books on my tbr for a while so I wanted to read this novella as an appetizer. Boy am I ever HOOKED I can’t wait to delve into the Dangerous Creatures series. I loved the authors writing styles! It was seamless. Typically novellas leave me not getting to know the character but in Dangerous Dream I fell in love with Ridley and I am dying to get to be in her head throughout this series. She has a super snarky personality and doesn’t attempt to disguise it. I love it when someone owns up to who they are and Ridley does just that. This was an excellent read it certainly makes me want to pick up the entire series. If you are a fan of the Caster world then this is definitely a must read.

My Rating

4.5 Gatlin, Destiny, Country Hops, Band, Game, Promises, Drummer, Interesting Future Filled Stars!! This was a great read I cant wait to immerse myself in this world! A definite must read for fans of the series and for those on the fence. This little puppy will have you hooked! Just like me!

So, if you liked the Beautiful Creatures series, this book is a connection from that series into the Dangerous Creatures series coming out soon.

It provides a little closing peek are Ethan and Lena--their graduation essentially.

And, it gives voice to Link's love for/obsession with Lena's Siren cousin, Ridley. Ridley's the bad girl, always willing to exploit the men she calls, yet never willing to surrender her heart.

Except she sorta has--to Gatlin-bumpkin, Link. Not that she will ever admit to loving the quarter-Incubus. This short story tells us how she and Link will end up together in NYC to start the next series. It is a very short recap of the major players from Beautiful Creatures and adds the danger of wagering with Casters in the Big City.

Looks like Ridley's going to be in contact with Link quite a lot. And I expect a solid dose of romantic intrigue with the new men who have won some control over Ridley's siren song in the next series.

A lot of people gave this a 1 star review because they didn't read the description and were angry that they paid $2.99 for 46 pages. I got this for free through NetGalley and I'm angry that I wasted time reading even half of it.

I tried to read Beautiful Creatures. I couldn't finish it. But I thought I could finish a short story. I had read enough to know who all of the characters were. Not only is this disjointed but Ridley is one of the most annoying characters I've ever had the displeasure of reading.

"...which scared her more than she was willing to admit to anyone, including herself."
"Sorry, Tall, Dark, and Dangerous. Maybe I'll see you inside."
"...she pushed him out of her mine-a skill at which she excelled."

Please. Ridley is a huge cliche wrapped in a tight black dress and pink lipstick. Usually I like strong, badass female characters. She is just bad.

Bubby: Now all you Beautiful Creatures addicts, don’t get too excited. This is NOT a new book but rather a teaser novella/short story that introduces the new book, Dangerous Creatures (coming out May 20th). All of our favorite characters are back but this time around the focus is on Ridley, that naughty lollipop wielding Caster girl.

Sissy: Yes, Ridley is naughty and if I were her mother I would lock her in her room and duct tape her to the wall! This novella made me mad because la la, yes, it gets you a glimpse into the life of Ridley and whets your appetite for the new book, but the story just leaves you hanging. This is rightfully called a teaser!

Bubby: But it was fun to read anyway! 3.5 lollipops. I mean bubbles.

Sissy: Yes. Still mad. 3 bubbles for me.

Fans of Garcia & Stohl will enjoy this new ebook based on characters from the popular Beautiful Creatures series. “Dangerous Dream,” a short story available for download, kicks off a new series with Lana, Ethan and Link’s high school graduation. Lana and Ethan are as inseparable as ever, with plans for their future together, while Link and Ridley continue to suffer love problems. When Ridley decides to dump Link and head off to forget him, she gets herself into a big problem which sets the scene for the upcoming series.

This ebook already got me hooked on the series, and will do the same for fans aged 14 and older. The first book, “Dangerous Creatures,” is set to be released May 6th.

Being a huge fan of the Beautiful Creatures series, I could not pass up the chance to read Dangerous Dream. Although short (46 pages), this story had just enough to satisfy my craving until Dangerous Creatures is released. This short but sweet book gives the reader a small glimpse of what went on the summer after high school graduation with Ethan and Lena. We also get to read about Ridley and Link again and their relationship. Of course, Ridley, being Ridley finds herself in a mess, but it looks like we may not get to see the outcome of this situation until Dangerous Creatures is released.

After reading this prequel, I am incredibly excited for the release of Dangerous Creatures!

Trust me, when I received the email for Dangerous Dream, I nearly broke my computer, I couldn't click "accept" fast enough. I loved The Beautiful Creatures series, and this little novella was no different. The world the authors created is one I want to live in! I love Gatlin, I love Ethan, I love Lena, I love Link and yep...I love Rid too! I absolutely cannot wait to read the spin off love/hate relationship of poor-goofy-means-well-Link vs. snarky-blonde-dark-caster-but-should-be-light-caster-Rid. You know it's going to be GOOD! Rid is a Dark Caster who believes she has everything figured out, but when her boyfriend says he loves her, well what can she do but leave. She thinks with her Sirens power she can handle everything. This short novella into the world of Dangerous Creatures looks at the point of view of the ill-fated cousin of Lena, and how she colors her world. Her personal beliefs and how she handles things is what cause her all her troubles.
a great first look into the series, and a great opening look into the next new novel of Dangerous creatures.

The best part of this novella is that it featured Ridley and Link. While I couldn’t always relate to Lena and Ethan and wasn’t fully on the bandwagon promoting their relationship, I’ve always been a huge fan of Ridley and Link. The book is brief, but it does has a story and plot, and it doesn’t fall into some of the tedious, slow-paced writing traps the other books in the series are prone to. If you’re a fan of the series, I’d definitely recommend it.

I have this love-hate relationship with the Beautiful Creatures stories, but I definitely liked Link and Ridley. I've always seen Ridley as someone who believed that she should be the bad girl, even though she wasn't. I think the act of her parents turning her away cemented that belief, which is sad. However, I am glad we got such a dynamic and interesting character whose volatile romantic relationship with Link seems to have spawned a new series. Yay!

As a short story prequel (at 46 pages), I enjoyed the story and the tease of Dangerous Dream for their upcoming Dangerous Creatures series. The story is told from three point-of-views: Ethan, Link, and Ridley. Honestly, I feel like Ethan could have been taken out of the equation and the story would be the same. Or maybe there should have been more of Link and Ridley's relationship, especially if readers are new to this whole book franchise.

Link was the same ever-lovable and sweet guy we met in Beautiful Creatures. And Ridley was right: he may be an incubus, but there's just no dark in that guy. And Ridley is also the same, hot and sexy and daring and afraid of feelings. And as I said, like a good girl who believes she should be bad.

However, what I didn't like about the story is that the writing and flow feels a little immature and the characters, tentative. The transitions felt a little jarring, and even though I like that they stayed the same, it's also a little disappointing because there was no tease of character development. If Ridley was going to be the hot bad girl all the way, then her antics could have been naughtier, her comebacks wittier and snappy. Here, she was still the same kid we met in Beautiful Creatures, and though it's nice to revisit old favorites, it's also more enjoyable to see them grow.

It’s like a walk down memory lane reading this short story. It just brought back all of the feels I had as I was reading the Caster Chronicles some five or so years ago.

Ethan and Lena are still the same old cute and haunted couple they were in their own series, while Link and Ridley are apparently breaking all hell loose trying to attempt to be together…? Honestly, I’m not really sure what Ridley is doing. I don’t even think she knows half the time.

As for the plot, there were three parts to this novella. The first one was a short snippet from Ethan’s point of view, which I loved. Hearing him tell his story about graduation made me want to re-read the entire first four books of the original series! His voice is just so lyrical and melodic. I forgot how much I crushed on him during my high school years. *sigh* Oh, and Link was very funny in this section. He seriously made me giggle.

The second section was in Link’s point of view, and it was ridiculously short. Also, not a lot happened in it besides some relationship drama. The third section is where things start getting darker and weirder because Ridley takes over as the narrator. She gets herself in a sticky situation and I couldn’t help by want to scream at her the whole time. You would think the girl would learn her lesson the first dozen times or so!

All in all, this novella was short and fun. I enjoyed the first two parts more than the last one, just because it brought me back to Gatlin for a while. I’d recommend this story to anyone who is missing a little bit of Ethan and the Caster world in his or her life.

3/5 stars

What happens when our favorite Siren and our favorite Link have a fight over the relationship? Well if we're talking about Ridley you run out of Gaitlin at warp speed. Unfortunately this doesn't go well for Ridley. She bums around the world and finds this not working so she heads to NYC and ends up in a card game, where being Ridley she plays by Ridley rules. Now she has to call back her sort of ex-boyfriend Link to help her out. How does she get into so much trouble? I loved that they are going to do a spin-off series when I read that I was uber excited! Can't wait!
