Well-done, fun mystery with well-developed characters and a sexy heroine set in front of the landscape of 1920's Melbourne. Very enjoyable. Interestingly, unlike many, the TV series based on these books is quite faithful to the characters and plot lines found in the novel.

Though not a regular reader of mysteries, I devour history and am particularly interested in the early 20th century. I find the Phryne Fisher mysteries lively, smart, witty and edifying. They capture the period. And as mysteries, I can't put them down..

two intertwining plots bringing in interesting characters and a window into fascinating subcultures of olden day Melbourne, plus of course the ongoing life of Phryne and her family which has been augmented by Tinker. a thoroughly good read from beginning to end.

I enjoyed this book, even though it differed a bit from the teleplay. Phryne is the ideal flapper. I like that the setting was in Australia because it the background was unfamiliar and I had to pay more attention.

Maybe three stars is unfair--this mystery is very entertaining and the main character, Phryne Fisher, is totally appealing. This is the kind of mystery to read before you go to sleep because it will NOT keep you awake with either disturbing questions or a frantic, thrilling pace. Nor is it meant to be that type of mystery. It's cute and mildly amusing, and I think that's just what it aims to be. I tend to like my mysteries deeper and more thought-provoking, but this is a nice change of pace.

Cute page-turner. Precious heroine. A peek at the Between The Wars years of the twenties and early thirties. Yes, the airplane stunts are ridiculous. IT DOESN'T MATTER! It was just a fun read. AND it caused me to buy another title in the same series. Remember, this is an Australian tale with an Australian point of view and an Australian sense of humor.

I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS SHORT SERIES AND WENT LOOKING FOR THE BOOKS WHEN I DISCOVERED THE SERIES WAS BASED ON BOOKS. I AM GLAD OF THE SERIES FOR THE VISUALIZATIONS OF THE ERA AND HER WONDERFUL CLOTHING AND BOLDNESS WITH WHICH SHE LIVES HER LIFE. I HOPE FOR MORE. SUCH A FUN READ AND SERIES.

The book snatched my attention from the first page to the last. It was hard to set down yet I didn't want the story to end. Kerry Greenwood's
character, Phryne Fisher, has a strong personality, is witty, gorgeous, rich and clever. Terry Rogers

Well written, most enjoyable series. Highly educated (where does she get the time & energy?) author educates as well as entertains. Am devoted fan. Most frustrating that full series are not on Kindle. Would also wish that Kindle would put original date of publication on presse of books.
