I didn't know that much about Malcolm Gladwell that's why I chose this book. It is a great example of Mr. Gladwell's writing style and his ability to cover a number of unrelated topics with incredible insight. I loved it. It's a great beginning book for those of you, who like me, are not that familiar with his work.

In my mind, the most apt comparison to this collection of 19 articles would be another great work, Steven D. Levitt's "Freakonomics," which was subtitled "the Hidden Side of Everything." Gladwell frequently takes a theme, explains it, then often turns the narrative on its head by reaching a well thought out, often unexpected, conclusion (the "hidden side" of the story). This is one of the most enjoyable books I've read in the last few years. It moves faster than Levitt's books, covering subjects in a brisk, engaging manner. Recommended for all ages & interests.

New al the time, intriguing, pertinent, actual / perfect read. Fluid and entertaining reading. You get tired of beeing smart you stop reading. Feeling like you need to move those neurons you start reading again and again and again. Love it. Love him
and other adventures by Malcolm Gladwell (6-May-2010) Paperback :: Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend :: Rust: The Longest War :: A True Story of Beauty and Obsession (Ballantine Reader's Circle) :: an Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Grimoire Saga Book 2)

This book is a compilation of some the authors articles published on The New Yorker.
Always interesting and varied topics as expected from Gladwell, in many of them linking two apparently unrelated subjects that actually are connected. I don't give it 5 stars because -as expected from Gladwell- reading sometimes gets a little boring because of too many examples and repetitions about the same point (it kinda makes you go, "OK, got it")
But all in all, a great book to pick up and read one or two articles every once in a while since.

I have long been a fan of everything Gladwell has done, but this book may have replaced his other three (Blink, Outliers, and Tipping Point) as my favorite work of his. I say this because the compilation of stories in What the Dog Saw gives an amazingly broad and insightful look into how Gladwell thinks. There are moments in Dog that bring you right back to Blink, or Outliers; but there are also moments where Gladwell's unique perspective and insight is trained upon very different and varied topics, with the same result (for this reader) of thinking "I never thought about it that way." The genius of Gladwell is his ability to take the mundane, archaic, or frighteningly complex, and ultimately present it in such a way that it is both accessible and mind-opening at the same time. I cannot recommend this book enough.

Malcolm Gladwell provides great insight into American culture. This was the third copy of the book that I have purchased. I have given the book as a gift to a Japanese professor friend and to the library of the Korean university where I teach. From the reviews written by my MBA students, I can testify to its worth for concrete examples for esoteric theories. I also recommend "Outliers" by Gladwell, which I have used similarly.

After three good books, a compilation of magazine articles.
You can see where some of the books content came from. Opens your appetite.
Easy to read.
It will not blow your mind but will make you think a little about a few things.

Another Fascinating Gladwell Book. Always thought-provoking, but interpretations (and observations) should be questioned in some cases. Gladwell gives a good jumping-off point for lots more reading on a subject, but it might be better not to jump to accepting conclusions without further thought. Definitely worth the read, best on Kindle!

Anything by Malcolm Gladwell is, for me, a must-read. His insights are unpredictable and a bit unusual, but you find yourself saying, wow, that's right! I think I have read all his books, and they *are* very readable - you don't have to be an expert on anything or a brainiac to enjoy them. They are all on my wish list!

Though his conclusions are entertaining he has an interesting way of getting to them. He gives great coorelations but they are not cause and effect. He attiributes things to specific events, though he does not that other factors are involved. I have read all his books and will continue to because he has a great way of viewing society.

I think that Gladwell is so well reviewed that mine comments are hardly necessary. He writes well, tells interesting stories to back up his ideas. I hadn't read any of his work and rather expected not to like it since he's a current star, but his writing has a modesty about it that make him endearing.

Mr. Gladwell is constantly thinking, exploring and offering insights into all of life. If you read no other non-fiction book this year let it be this one or any other of Mr. Gladwell's work. You will not regret the decision.

This is a fascinating group of essays by Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell brings a unique perspective to subjects as varied as ketchup, the Pill, Enron, and criminal profiling. I found myself wanting to go back and re-read some of the essays. Unfortunately, the Kindle version of this book has no Table of Contents. Therefore, seeking out individual essays is very time-consuming. It's because of the lack of table of contents and the inability to go to individual essays easily that I gave this 4 stars rather than 5.

This book is a "collection" or I call it "regurgitation" of articles that he wrote in the New Yorker magazine. It's not any new content. There were some nice articles, but they just didn't have that engaging bite like some of the other books he's written. I've read Tipping Point, Blink and Outliers, and I have to say this was a disappoint compared to those.

This book plumbs a variety of people, professions, incidents and events which add a multitude of levels of interest and fascination to things we've heard about and had a superficial understanding of. It allows us to look behind the curtain of minimal reporting to get a deeper and more human vision of various people and happenings in our culture.

Gladwell's writing is always wonderful and I intend to read every book. This one seemed to have a few holes in the logic here and there, but then, he's the expert. I learn a great deal fro reading his work.

I have always enjoyed everyone of Malcolm Gladwell's book. It is well researched and well written.

It not only shows you two sides of a coin, but also pushes you to thinking.

Strongly recommend it.

as per the previous reads by Gladwell, found this to generally be interesting and, at times, provocative. Some sections/chapters more interesting and meaningful than others but still a creative read.

Mr. Gladwell has a unique way of thinking. This is the 1st of his books that I have read, but it won't be the last. A good read for any inquiring mind. If you're in business or thinking about being in business, this is especially an important read to you. Edward Zivica, Whispering Whale, the novel, the store

I loved this collection of Gladwell writings that I didn't catch in their original publications. There is so much interesting food for thought and facts that go against commonly held beliefs. I found it fascinating.

Malcolm Gladwell brings many perspectives of situations to light and makes us more aware of situations outside of first impression. Simply based on my personal interests, some of his stories in this book were mor intriguing to me and others did not catch my attention.

Malcolm Gladwell's "What the Dog Saw" is another set of very thought-provoking essays. The collection of essays presented to the reader shows more of Mr Gladwell's thorough research, inquisitive thinking, and challenges to the 'norm' or 'expected.' Although some will recognize bits and pieces from earlier works of his, the collection still brings the reader to ponder everyday assumptions.

This is a wide ranging book with many interesting topics. If you want in depth analysis of any of the topics it mentions you will need another book. This book whets your appetite for many things and for most people it's enough. I would highly recommend it.

If you like Malcolm Gladwell, and the type of writing and journalistic style now know as "Gladwellian", you will definitely love this book. At first I was bummed out to learn that these were a collection of already published articles writing previously by Malcolm, but after reading through the first few I realised that they were nothing if not brilliant, interesting and entertaining pieces of journalism excellence. Enjoy

This was a fantastic book that really caused me to rethink a lot of ideas. Gladwell has a great way of challenging what we think we believe and providing some new insight into ways of viewing things. It was a real paradigm shifter for me!

Malcolm Gladwell is a very curious person who investigates incidents or events that interest him. Then takes his interest to a perceptive depth that provides an astounding interest level for almost anyone who would read his work. He links others investigative work and uses it to provide illumination and insight that makes his writing so very illuminating and understandable. A real contributing human being.
