At first I was skeptical but this book surprised me and made me excited about reading again. The writer pulls the reader in by using actual stories rather than tween jargon which seems to be popular these days.

This first installment of the Black Company was a little confusing at first, then by chapter 3 things started to make since. So I give this book 4/5 stars for lack of discription early on, but otherwise a GREAT story!

Still working on this series its definitely a long one, but so far its pretty damn good. Great character development, the plot is very in depth so much so you may loose your way in places. Well worth the read.
The Underground Playbook for Growing Your Company Online :: Parno's Company (The Black Sheep of Soulan Book 1) :: The Inside Story of 9/11 and the War Against al-Qaeda :: Sidney Sheldon's Chasing Tomorrow :: Taliesin (The Pendragon Cycle, Book 1)

Really liked this. Less about world building than you would expect from high fantasy, which is a good thing. You get enough to make a unique world while not so much you feel like you have to learn elvish. The characters are great, each one is complicated and nuanced, especially the antagonists. Love it

A good read, which nicely captures the grim side of mercenary work keeping everything in grey-scales. I do feel the book would have benefitted from giving more background and depth to the characters who are all kinda one-dimensional but nevertheless its a nice read with good value for the money.

My husband begged me to read these books because he looks at them as his friends. Now I am into them and love them also.
The characters are fun and adventurous. The story line keeps you wanting to find out what has happened before and what is next. Don't want them to end.

This is an fantastic book by a great author, Glen Cook. I would highly recommend that you read the whole series, as they are all good. His Garrett Files series is also great. I have been reading and re-reading them for years.

I love Glen Cook's work, particularly the Garret PI series. The Black Company series shows Cook in a darker more military mindset. Still something one can get lost in, just does not have the chuckle inducing moments of the Goddamned Parrot.

Chronicles of the Black Company ( as well as all the following books ) was a shot in the dark for me, trying to find a character as appealing as Noah Gordon's Cole and yet with the plot depth of A Song of Fire and Ice. A must-read for all medieval fiction fans. My one wish, although not enough to downrate the purchase, was that there should be a complete series package.

It was great. First book started out a little slowly and had a lot of names to remember but it quickly picked up steam. Croaker and the Lady relationship development is awesome and I can't wait to read the next three books.

Such a tale of dark hope; completely unlike any fantasy I have read. A hero unlike any you will find in fantasy, he resembles more the every day man, living a life full of difficult choices. Much like you or I, the hero, is just trying to breathe another day.

This book...wow. IT starts off with a little more information than is easy to take in but after that Glen Cook's writing style really begins to shine. The information on the back says he redefined the genre when he wrote this book and I find myself agreeing.

I am, and very much have been enjoying this read. It was recommended by author Matt Colville (author of "Priest" & "Thief - if you have not read them, stop reading this review and do so now). If you are looking for a fantasy tale where there are no clear cut "good guys" (or gals), this is it.
