This book is a book many people would enjoy,
especially who love Egypt. I would give this book a 300 stars, but the stars only go up to five. It is about a boy named Ranofer. He has to live with Gebu his wicked half brother who is a tomb robber and stone cutter. The reason
Ranofer has to live with him because his father dies.
To read the book, just read the book!

Eloise McGraw used a lot of detail which was nice. Although the beginning started out slow, as the story grew, it got better. It was a great way to learn about ancient Egypt, that wasn't boring. Whenever I have to read a book for an assignment, I am worried that I will not like the book, but this book was wonderful. I never wanted to put it down.

Take it from someone who's frineds can testify that Rachel will put a book down immeadiately if it's not exciting within the first 20 pages. I kept this book with me almost everywhere I went while I was still reading it so I could read snatches of it in my spare moments. Eloise Jarvis McGraw is one of the best authors out there!

I thought that golden goblet was good but took too long to get to the climax. I mean you raed the climax when the book is practicly done. The detail is extreamly in depth. Which can be good and bad. The good part is that you can picture the book really well. The bad thing is the beginning will put you to sleep. I would not recomend this book to a kid under 10.

Ancient Eyptian history can be very confusing to children, but when you incorporate this book alongside your studies the kids become fascinated and Egypt comes alive. Absolutely recommend this book...I even found it interesting! There is just enough mystery to keep young readers attentions.

When we first started reading this book during our homeschool unit on Ancient Egypt, my kids seemed disinterested. They are both girls, and this was a book about a boy. How boring! But before they knew it, they were asking me to read on, beyond the chapter a day we were supposed to read. The suspense was too much for them, and they wanted to find out what would happen next. I'm glad I didn't give up too early on this wonderful book!

Great for those who want to learn about history through story characters. The plot is very interesting and the 2nd half is action packed. Could be a struggle for those who don't like to read...but we love to read. Great book.

Read this aloud to family and my daughter, age 10, kept asking to read "just one more chapter". It is true, a bit dull in the beginning, but it was definitely worth the read. Was great at reinforcing our study of Egypt!

The Golden Goblet is an excellent piece of historical fiction and would have been a great cross curricular whole group read for 6th grade history; however, I feel the book could have been 50-75 pages shorter and still have achieved its goal. I might consider it for a summer reading list, but overall, I would have to say I was in a hurry to finish the book so I could move on to something else.

I think this book is an excellent narrative as well as a lesson in ancient Egypt geography and social make-up. This book appeals to the emotions as well as to social and geographic interests. There is much to learn from this splendid novel - read it immediately!

As an assignment for a special "leave of absence" for a week or two, my English teacher Gave me two books to read. When I picked up this book, I didn't even get through FIVE PAGES before I started to yawn. I am an avid reader, and even the most boring book can be interesting to me. Not this book. This is the worst book I have ever TRIED to read in my whole life. It's a good book if you want to go to sleep REALLY fast. You could also use the book to kill yourself, because it BORES you to DEATH. If you are a teacher or a parent, this is possibly the worst book to give them. It should only be read as punishment.

scary book, weird things will come out of your closet if you read this book. It is so dull it made me scream. The main caracter ronofer is an anorexic boy who likes to tell u all his problems. His brother beats him up and he only has 2 friends who happen to both be speacial. 1 cant talk. If you want a depresing book u got it.it will make your hart crush. tears.

Had to read this book as a assignment for school, i picked the longest one for an odd reason and ended up dreading it. Just looking at the cover made chills go up my spine at how horribly bad it truly is. Would give this star negative 100000000000000000000 stars if possible but the least available is one. Horrible book about Ancient Egypy, boring plot, boring characters, over all a horrible book. Really cannot believe that some people gave this book 5 stars.

Taking place ancient Egypt, this young adult novel concerns a young boy, Ranofer, who longs to be a goldsmith. His older half-brother is a tomb robber. This incredibly slow-moving, predictable, and clumsily written (far-advanced vocabulary for the age group, and full of dated language), is mind-numbingly boring, with flat, two-dimensional characters and a standard, uninteresting, predictable, didactic plot. An incredibly weak historical novel for young readers that has little to offer them, particularly in our contemporary literate world that produces so much brilliant, engaging, and deep young adult literature that even rivals adult literature. Grade: D
