After I'm Gone: A Novel

I adore Laura Lippman. Her characters are always well drawn and engaging. That is the case with this book as well. However, for me, this book did not earn the 5 stars. I felt like the plot was forced and the ending was contrived and not believable.

Never read a Lippman book. Easy read but I couldn't get into the characters. She flipped between past and present providing a background story that wasn't necessary. I ended up reading just the chapters in the present giving me most of the information I needed.

I normally really enjoy Laura Lippman, and I really liked the story line of this book. I found myself kind of buried in a lot of names and relationships as well as the passage of time and it was hard to track without a family tree handy....

A murder investigation so well presented by Laura Lippman as being more about the people of Baltimore than the actual mystery. The characterizations elevate a mildly interesting mystery into a more captivating read.

This was a well crafted mystery that did not have any parts that dragged. There also was no graphic violence. I did not figure out who the murderer was until she pretty much revealed it. I also liked that she completed weaving all the threads at the end.

Very good and quite insightful. Her characters are deftly drawn and are very alive to this reader. Great insight into the human condition paired with a murder mystery - I love a good mystery wrapped in a literary style.

This is the first Laura Lippman book I have read. I found it to be well written and the story keeps you looking for more clues. The end was a surprise for me---I didn't even look that way! I would recommend this read.
