Plot: Cat (newly turned vamp/ghost whisperer) and Bones, her husband (vamp extraordinaire) have been contacted and asked to stop a vicious ghost, who can take solid form once a year just to kill. The loving couple works together, with some help from some friends, to bring a serial killer to justice.

Positives: A vampire who temporarily has the ability to see and interact with ghosts was promising. Off hand, I don't remember reading a book where the supernatural/paranormal entities co-exist in one body. Usually they are singular entities...occasionally you get some sort of hybrid (vamp/were), but the undead with an additional power (even if it is not permanent) is promising. And I should mention that there was also a little humor woven into the story.

Negatives or Issues: This is my first Frost/Night Huntress novel and I am not sure if I would read another. While the plot seemed promising, I found that there were times that I was somewhat lost. It could have simply been because I picked up a book that was in the middle of a series, or that there were some intricate plot twist and turns that I did not understand, nor that I was not familiar with since I came "late to the party". And while I could tell that this story may in some minds constitute an original plot, there were so many "salutes" to past storylines that only reading the earlier novels could explain. So for me, this was a challenging read. And while the long time fans, can understand and appreciate all of the references, I could not.

#2: The plot moved a little slow, especially at the beginning and I found myself sitting the book to the side and picking it up days later, hoping that the story would jump start. While there was some fighting, romance (not a ton, but some) and some poltergeist-ing (ok, I made that word up, perhaps I should have said haunting)...it was not really enough to make me feel engaged with the characters or the story.

#3: As a newcomer to the series, I would have liked to see more sparks flying between Cat and Bones. But then again, because I was unfamiliar with the pace of the other books or the nuances of their relationship, maybe I just couldn't appreciate. As a couple, they were ok just not as exciting as I would have liked, even when they were trying to be.

What I will say is that for those who know and follow this series, you would probably love this installment. But for others, like me, who had no idea about past storylines or plots, this might not be the book for you. Although I normally would have rated this story a 2.5, I will round it up to a 3 simply because the storyline had so much potential.

This book was amazing, I really enjoyed it, at great addition to the Night Huntress series.

I really enjoyed Cat and Bones in this book, they are better than ever together. No more leaving each other behind, no more forces separations. They are great together.

Cat has really grown in this book, she has a very long life ahead of her, and is finally realizing it. This changes her outlook a little, but she is still the Cat we all know and love. She still has her great sense of humor and is full of her witty snide remarks. She has finally realized she can be happy in the moment.

Then there is Bones, What a HOTTIE! Love Bones. He is also growing and developing as well. I like that he has loosened up a bit, not as severe in his vampire territorialism as he usually is, he's a little more trusting. I also love how he is treating Cat more as a partner now.

I love how the romance is solid, there are so many small tender moments between them that really made me smile. For those who like them sex scenes, there is one that was unique and fun. Let's just say, it gives the "Mile High Club" a whole new meaning, lol.

The challenge in this book is a little harder than things Cat has come up against in the past. But how do you fight something that isn't corporal? Something you can't touch, and can't die or be erased? I enjoyed watching Cat try to out maneuver a crafty old ghost. Cat can't just unleash her Red Reaper skills since she can't physically touch the sly witch hunter. I wish we could have seen her go all Reaper on everything, but just wasn't something that fit in the book this time.

ONE GRAVE AT A TIME was a nice installment to this series, which I had a hard time putting it down. I like where Jeaniene Frost is taking Cat and Bones and am glad some of the magic is back.

I highly recommend this book, especially if your into the series with Cat and Bones. If you have never read any of the Night Huntress books, I suggest picking up the first one, and read on from there. You won't be sorry. Halfway to the Grave is the first in this series.

Note: I recieved a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Quick & Dirty: Fans of Cat and Bones will enjoy this latest installment in the Night Huntress series. A major antagonist is introduced and he turns Cats world on edge. Favorite minor characters are nowhere to be found.

First Line: "Donald Bartholomew Williams, get your a$$ back here now!"

The Review:

One Grave at a Time continues the journey of Cat and her vampire lover Bones. The sixth installment picks up less than two months after the events of This Side of the Grave. Cat's Uncle Don is now dead but much to Cat and Don's horror, Don is now a restless ghost. The main storyline follows Cat and Bones when Fabian, Cat's resident ghost, introduces her to Elisabeth, a ghost who was killed centuries ago by a witch hunter, Heinrich Kramer. Elisabeth has been following Heinrich over the years and was disturbed to know that his sexist, witch hunting ways never stopped. Every year on All Hallows Eve he "tortures" and burns three women he claims are witches. Now that Cat knows his dirty story, she is determined to stop him. Cat enlists the help of a medium, Tyler, to summon Heinrich so she can confront him about his crimes. Unfortunately, Heinrich is more powerful than he seems. Heinrich is a true poltergeist, he can throw and destroy objects but he cannot be touched. Now that Cat has got his attention he is determined that Cat is a witch and must be one of his next victims. Cat must come up with a plan that will trap his ghost forever, with the help of Spade, Denise, Ian, and Tyler, a group of ghost hunters, and of course Bones, Cat has only a limited time before Heinrich kills again.

Cat not only has to contend with a killer ghost but since her uncles' death there have been some changes at the secret Homeland Security/Task Force that she used to work for. Jason Madigan has taken over as the teams' operations consultant, and he has some nasty words for Cat. He absolutely cannot stand her and as a result interrupts her mission at crucial times. Ghostly Uncle Don knows Madigan from when he was alive and chooses to follow him for intel, but he refuses to tell Cat what he knows about Madigan. Madigan is very shady and seems to know more than he should about the supernatural world.

The story is pretty solid and action packed, but it did feel like there wasn't much time for Cat and Bones signature romantic heat, which prevails in the other books of the series. This book definitely had more of an urban fantasy feel to it. I have only two complaints about One Grave at a Time. First, the ending seemed somewhat abrupt. The witch hunter storyline ended well but I felt there should have been more depth with respect to Madigan. There are too many questions that remain unanswered. I guess I'll have to wait until the next book for some answers. My other complaint is that there was no Vlad or Mencheres. I have really come to enjoy those characters even though they are minor in this series.

I enjoy Jeaniene Frost's characters and Tyler was no exception, even though I did keep picturing him as Lafayette from True Blood because of his mannerisms and his funny one liners. I absolutely hated Madigan, which for a bad guy is good, because if I didn't feel anything then he is not that great of a villain. In the end, I still enjoy Jeaniene Frost's writing style and cannot wait until Once Burned (Vlad's story!!), which is the next book in the Night Huntress series. As of right now there are nine books planned for the Night Huntress series, not including the spinoff books.

The Night Huntress Series:

1. Halfway to the Grave

2. One Foot in the Grave

3. At Grave's End

4. Destined for an Early Grave

5. This Side of the Grave

6. One Grave at a Time

We all remember Fabian, Cat's ghostly sidekick right? In One Grave At a Time, Fabian has a ghostly sweetheart, Elisabeth. In her day, Elisabeth was falsely accused of being a witch and was burned at the stake by vicious witch hunter, Heinrich Kramer. Elisabeth has not moved on to the other side after all these years because Kramer now exists as a ghost who can manifest into human form every Halloween. He continues his quest to murder women he accuses of being witches by raping, torturing and burning them once a year when he can establish human form. Elisabeth is determined to stop Kramer and has enlisted the help of Fabian and his vampire friends Cat and Bones.

Although it doesn't last long before they are immersed in another adventure, Cat and Bones finally have time to exhale and relax. They aren't on anyone's hit list and their relationship is loving and solid. I love this because they've had some pretty hard times in the relationship department. It's nice to see them rock solid in love and with no huge romantic obstacles to overcome. Unfortunately, and oddly enough though, the sexy times were pretty skimpy in this installment. No epic sex scene this series has become known for, however Cat and Bones are still pretty sensual in the...well...not exactly the bedroom. You'll have to read the book for that info.

The hunt for the bad guy was full of fight scenes and really good action but there was something missing. Cat and Bones are determined to stop Kramer but for most of the story there was no personal connection for Bones and Cat to the villain's crimes. Since the villain had no connection to their back-story at all, the overall plot seemed disconnected from the series and so the story lacked the emotional impact I look forward to in these books.

Cat is still funny and snarky, just not as funny and snarky as usual. Bones is hot, sexy and bad ass but just didn't have the big presence he usually has. The villian was absolutely heinous and scary and I thought he was an excellent, unrelenting evil bad guy. But the personal connection to the series history was lacking.

One of the many strengths of this series is the brilliant secondary characters. I missed a lot of my old favorites but Ian made an appearance and was as "Ian-ish" as ever. I'm an Ian fan so points for "Ian-isms". We're introduced to a few new characters as well and things are changing for many of the established characters, particularly Cat's old team.

I'm fairly sure my expectations for each book in this series are set by the previous books in the series. I love the Night Huntress books and expect awesomeness with each new installment. I was slightly disappointed in One Grave At a Time though, and I don't think it quite lived up to the shining example set by it's predecessors. It has all the elements that have made this a favorite series for me, it just felt like Night Huntress Lite. While I wasn't wow'd I was still very entertained and I enjoyed being back in the Night Huntress world.

This is the 6th book in the Night Huntress series and Jeaniene's still bringing it! Here you have Cat and Bones and after seeing what they've been through in the last 5 books, we know they're bad ass who can't be taken down. Yeah, they'll bleed, and they'll take a beating but who know who be standing in the end fool.. Yeah! I love you Cat and Bones!! Ok, now that I'm done...

This book had me hooked because our bad guy Kramer is one hyped up evil ghost who can't be physically pummeled. Living off of hatred and getting stronger from terrorizing people, he's like a mist that can't be contained yet he's kicking Cat's and Bone's ass! What the F yo! But people, come on.. this is Cat and Bones we're talking about. So it was really cool to see how this goes down. Plot and action sequences were entertaining, creative and unique.

Pretty good! Not a must read before you die, but comes close.

3.5 stars thanks to the hot sonovabich Ian is.

Nothing changed much since my opinion on the previous book.

I just love Ian in so many levels I wish he'll have a book of his own. his sense of humore is what I love most. Denise has turned into a dragon, which was really cool. also we learn more about ghosts in Jeaniene's Frost world and their ability (i they are strong enough) to materilize. some of the plot arc is dedicated to building the ground to the next book (I really hate Don's replacement).
Justina is still lovely as always, grieving Rodney (I still can't believe he's dead!!!) and slowly she accepts her situation as a vampire (though with lots of struggles and she's still very prejudiced).

It was nice to see Fabian happy, and a fanatic stupid ghost getting what he deserves.

so yeah, it was quite nice and slightly better then the previouse one

I've been a huge Cat and Bones fan from the start. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise to me that I enjoyed this book as much as the rest.

The action sets off since the beginning and doesn't end until that last page is turned.
The story follows our Cat as she deals with the withdrawals of having Marie's blood in her system thus being a beacon for ghost everywhere. Not only is she being haunted by her uncle who hasn't moved on but her ex job, has a new boss who is very curious about her and to say it plainly, is a jerk.
She has it under control, at least the ghost can't hurt her. Or so she thinks. She learns from Fabian's love interest about a ghost who uses human sacrifices every Halloween to be able to make himself flesh and bone. Cat can't look away, not knowing innocent people are dying. Less so when the ghost who needs her help is a friend she feels indebted to. Bones and her take it upon themselves to kill the ghost. How do you kill someone you can't touch?

Cat has tamed down a bit on this one, there's something about her that just isn't the same as before. Be it that she got married and just wants a break, or that the fight is not in her as much. Not saying she doesn't kick ass when she has to but she isn't a vampire hunter anymore. I do miss vampire hunter cat. But this new Cat deals with her problems with more maturity then in the past, smart remarks aside. Interestingly enough she isn't in charge all the time in this one, which was a different take from the last book where she was always bossing people around and getting things done even with the team she was no longer leader of.

Bones' character is steady throughout and is the same as in the previous books; loving, sexy, and strong. His powers keep growing making you wonder what more surprised are in store for these characters, or us. He was more involved in this one where the planning and fighting were concerned. I loved that vat and Bones relationship is more solid this time around. They work as one versus doing separate things.

We don't see any of the characters we loved from the first books. We do get some, but the former team members, or even Vlad, aren't there (again). Juan's humor is missed but I felt that he got replaced with Tyler, a new addition that also didn't get mentioned as to what happened to him at the end. Surprisingly, I liked Tyler's character more so than Denise, which I'm not sure why I never thought much of.
The more I read about Ian the more I start to like him, needless to say that I like him more than Spade, he has more spunk (could mean sluttiness, I'm not sure) in my eyes. I was never a fan of him from the start, again not sure why. Some characters I love instantly while others take time to grow on me.

The story is simple to follow and flows well, though at times it is predictable and follows the same pattern as the previous stories it never gets dull but maintains a steady pace to keep you interested. The villain felt a little detached, probably because as another review mentioned the past "villains" were people from her past or someone she had close ties with somehow.
This isn't my favorite in the series but it holds well to the last one and to the series as a whole. Cat's relationship with her uncle has been bothering me since I finished the book, specially since he never showed up again after the half of the book. I'm not sure what happened since it doesn't say so that's a lose end for the next book. The ending wasn't what I was sued to from Frost. This one left more things hanging in the air than the previous books. Hopefully the next will clear them up

A psychotic ghost out for murder, a woman after vengeance, and a Red Reaper stuck in the middle.

This book is a continuation in the Cat and Bones series written by Jeaniene Frost. Cat is (was) a dhamipr (vampire huntress) who falls in love with a vampire. This book picks up after Cat and Bones (her vampire husband) have averted a war between the vampires and ghouls. Cat is now a vamipre, but a "weird" one with unusual cravings that end up giving her unusual powers, the remnants of which still makes her very attractive to ghosts. This book begins with Cat and Bones attempting to settle in to a married routine and a well-deserved rest after their last harrowing adventure.

But that rest is not to be found. Cat has a ghost friend name Fabian. Fabian has become smitten with a female ghost named Elizabeth, a witch who was killed by a witch hunter named Kramer. Although Kramer was killed many years before, he is now a ghost and has found the ability to become solid once a year, at which time he brutally tortures and kills another woman. This book revolves around Elizabeth asking Cat and Bones to find Kramer and stop him before he can torture another woman.

Along with the new story is the continuation of previous story lines, including the death of her Uncle Don and the transformation of her mother into a vampire. Uncle Don has been replaced at the agency by Jason Madigan, a rigid new agency director who hates vampires and wants any excuse to put them away. He ends up being a constant thorn in both Cat and Bone's side.

For those readers who have been following this series for a while, you will remember the hot and heavy sex scenes from the first books. That element seems to have all but disappeared with the exception for one part late in the book. However, the love between Cat and Bones is still there and you feel the love they feel for each other come through the pages. This book returns to the individual story contained within one book (unlike the averted war story-line that built through several books) with the side characters still playing a significant role. Although this was not my favorite of the series, it certainly was enjoyable and difficult to put down. Can't wait for the next one!

Cat and Bones escaped the paranormal world war as winners but there are some left over ramifications still plaguing the dynamic duo. The Voodoo Queen's gift to Cat has ghosts coming out of the woodwork to visit her. One of the ghosts has a special request of the Night Huntress - help her stop an evil ghost from completing devious deeds.

Heinrich Kramer was a famous witch hunter until he met with death hundreds of years ago. Now every year at Halloween, he takes physical form to torture and sacrifice three innocent women to gain power. Unfortunately for him, Cat and Bones have made it their mission to stop him. Heinrich is not one to be defeated easily and has many nasty tricks up his sleeves.

Cat and Bones have more problems on their plate then Heinrich. Cat's uncle is still around and no one knows why. There is a new government official on the prowl for all of Cat's secrets and willing to do whatever it takes to unearth them. Cat and Bones will have to search One Grave At A Time to find the horrid Heinrich while fending off the government determined to one up them. Who will survive unscathed in the latest otherworldly battle?

One Grave At A Time is the sixth Night Huntress book and I feel like I fell in love with this series all over again. Granted I never fell out of love with the series but I remain amazed at Jeaniene Frost's ability to create innovative unparalleled out of this world stories. Every time I think I know all there is to know about Cat and Bones, Ms. Frost creates new layers of depth. Cat and Bones have just cemented their title as favorite couple of all time! When a series starts, it's all about getting to the `in love' part; there is plenty of overt passion and sexual chemistry floating around and when they find `love', the couple often becomes boring. However, that's not the case with Cat and Bones - their relationship keeps getting stronger as time goes on. What I love about Ms. Frost is the way she has allowed the natural progression of their wonderful relationship. This couple still has it going on...their passion may be more covert now but it's obvious to all that their fire burns bright! Their missions take more precedence now than their time together but it's clear through every word or look between them that there will never be another for these two. Cat and Bones have a sexy and stunning relationship.

I could go on forever but that's enough of my ode to Cat and Bones. It's time to talk about the kick-ass action going on in One Grave At A Time!! There are so many action sequences that are off the charts, to make this story unique and a killer! The villain is despicable and easy to hate. There are new characters brought in that lighten up this dark story. Tyler is a definite hit in my book. He may just be Cat and Bones' link to the other side but this character is a keeper! One Grave At A Time is filled with riveting, pulse-pounding scenes that leave you gasping for air, and wondering how they are going to survive. Prepare yourself for blood and gore galore, interspersed with tons of dark, witty humor, fierce fighting, and one of a kind romance as you flip the pages of One Grave At A Time.

Reviewed at Another Look Book Reviews

I enjoyed One Grave At A Time. I am thankful the fans were given another book and I am super glad that Cat and Bones are really solid.

Let me start my review with my thoughts of Cat & Bones. I just love that although Cat can clearly look after herself, Bones is still her #1 protector and not just in battle. It is really important in a relationship that the spouse defends in verbal battles and provides back up. We saw evidence of that numerous times with Bones this time around and I loved him a little bit more each time. Whether someone is just thinking bad thoughts about Cat with their mind or if someone verbally berates her, Bones will defend her to no end; even if it is his best friend. I just love that!
I was disappointed that their sexual intimacy in One Grave At A Time was mostly implied. There was only one intimate scene and I missed that there wasn't more. I love Cat and Bones and I love to read about their connection. The scene that was delivered was great and creative but I wanted more.

Now I am going to talk about the villain(s). The main villain was a ghost named Heinrich Kramer but nicknamed "The Inquisitor". He was a despicable character and very easy to detest. You can imagine the difficulty of trying to be rid of something that is already dead and you can't touch it. At first I didn't care for the villain but I think my issue was more with the lack of secondary characters. Jeaniene Frost has created a cast of amazing secondary characters and they were barely utilized in One Grave At A Time. In fact, it wasn't until the friends were finally brought in that I recognized what was missing from the story. At first I thought it was the lackluster villain but it wasn't. I was missing the cast.

There was an introduction of a few new characters. The first new character was Madigan. I was utterly confused with his purpose in One Grave At A Time other than this book was just an introduction and forewarning of things to come. He is completely set up for the readers to dislike him and that was very easy to do. He replaces Don and had Tate demoted so as you may have guessed, he is apart of the military. He is slimy and devious and I am sure we will hear much more about him. Funny that he never hurt anyone in this book but I think I despised him more than the ghost villain.

The other new character was Tyler. He is gay and he added the much needed comic relief with him fawning over the Bones and Ian. Who can blame the guy right? He has great lines and I hope we get much more of him in future books.

One Grave At A Time is not one of Jeaniene Frost's best Cat and Bones story but enjoyable regardless.

I never understand just how much I miss these characters until I finish the new book and realize I have to wait MONTHS until the next one comes out.

This story picks up a few months after the skirmish with the ghouls. Cat's still dealing with the aftermath of drinking from Marie (which has many ghosts camping outside of their house) and the loss of her Uncle and his subsequent inability to cross over. While Cat thinks they have a lot going on, Bones reminds her that no one is trying to kill them or their friends, so everything is going pretty well. Cat should really warn Cat to be careful of what you wish for.

It's after returning from a summons to her old team base (and the harassing from a government jackass hiding more than he's telling) that things go south for our beloved couple.

It seems Fabian has taken a fancy to another ghost, Elizabeth. He breaks a house rule, allowing Elizabeth into Cat and Bones home, but for good reason. Heinrich Kramer, the Inquisitor (aka witch hunter) was murdered centuries ago by Elizabeth, who was trying to protect innocent women from being killed by Heinrich like she was. Unfortunately, Heinrich has figured out a way become corporal on Halloween to continue on with his torture. Elizabeth has taken it upon herself to try and stop him, but is now asking Cat for her help.

Cat, being Cat, immediately agrees as a favor to Fabian (who never asks her for anything and is always there for her). What she doesn't realize is that Heinrich is no regular ghost and the juju she got from Marie's blood may not be there to help her out of this one.

I loved this story. We continue to see how Cat has evolved from that woman with a single determination we met way back when. Even when I expected Cat to go off on her own, because she thought it was the right thing to do, she listened to what Bones said and agreed with his course of action. It's almost as if, in this story, she's finally trust the depth of the feelings she has for Bones and he for her.

Of course, that doesn't mean Cat isn't her normal snarky self when it comes to the bad guys, because she certainly is. Heinrich is one bad as ghost who wants Cat anyone he can use her or abuse her (and abuse her is does, quite a few times).

Some old friends come to Bones and Cat's aide. Denise and Spade, Ian, and Cat's mom Justina are all there to lend a hand, body, or other implement of torture or rescue. I was a little disappointed that Vlad wasn't around, because surely he would have enjoyed dispatching Heinrich with the rest of them.

For those that enjoy those intimate moments with Cat and Bones, I'll leave you with this. They've given a whole new definition to the Mile High Club!

*Review may contain spoilers if you haven't read the previous books in the series*

One Grave at a Time picks up where This Side of the Grave left off. Cat's uncle is now a ghost and for some reason, cannot move on to the afterlife. While trying to figure out a way to get her uncle to the other side, Cat and Bones's ghostly friend, Fabian, approaches them with a request for help from his ghostly friend, Elisabeth. There's a ghost by the name of Heinrich Kramer that terrorizes women. On Halloween, his ghostly form becomes corporeal and he burns 3 women at the stake. During the Salem Witch Trials Heinrich was a bonafide witch hunter and wrote a manifesto condemning witchcraft. Elisabeth was a victim of Heinrich's fanaticism and has been seeking revenge ever since. Over the centuries, he has gained power and Cat and Bones have been tasked with the duty of stopping him.
In order to try and contact Heinrich, Cat and Bones visit a medium by the name of Tyler. I loved the introduction and Tyler and hope that he is around for future books. He reminds of Lafayette from True Blood. He's flamboyant and funny. He has no filter; he says what he's thinking and he's not intimidated by the big, bad vampires. Tyler flirts outrageously with Bones. My favorite moment is when Tyler calls Bones "Mr. Yummy Pants." No one is safe from Tyler's flirtatious behavior; especially Ian. I was hoping that Ian would give Tyler a little something-something but no. Ian had some great lines throughout the book (when doesn't he?) and it is making me anxious for Ian to have his own book! I'm tired of him being the side-kick in everyone else's book.

Not only does Cat and Bones have to vanquish Heinrich Kramer's ghost before Halloween but there's also the matter of the new Operations Consultant at the compound, Jason Madigan. He's causing trouble and no one knows what his deal is. He's a government "desk jockey" and Cat's uncle, Don, has a history with Madigan that he refuses to spill the deets about. I'm sure we will learn more about Madigan in future books. I get the vibe that he has an agenda that doesn't coincide with the mission of the team. There are hints that he has a prejudice against vampires and other-wordly creatures.

One Grave at a Time was a good read but I was a little disappointed by it. The plot didn't grab me like in previous books. I loved the addition of Tyler who provided a fresh perspective and comic relief. I was happy that Ian, Shade and Denise played a huge role in Cat and Bones plans to capture Heinrich Kramer. Thanks to the infamous Chapter 32, I think our expectation is that there's a Chapter 32 in every book. There wasn't much smexy time with C&B which I kind of expected. They had a house full of people (and ghosts) wherever they went, which made it pretty difficult for them to have some alone time. And the one time we were privy to some smexiness, it fell flat.
Cat and Bones continue to mature in their relationship. I loved seeing the progression of their marriage. Bones is still protective of Cat but is reluctantly letting her be more independent. Cat is now reigning in her tendency to go off half-cocked. There's mutual thought and consideration in the decisions that they both make and that's a testament to how they've both grown throughout this series.

Even though One Grave at a Time didn't wow, I still enjoyed it. This is one of my favorite series and I cannot wait for the next book.

I have loved this series from book one like everyone else. Together Cat and Bones had a spark that could burn down a freaking forest! This is what we all fell in love with, not to mention the built up drama, lust and jealousy that produced a chemistry literally out of this world. The plots are almost always great but its the chemistry between these two main characters that we crave. Mrs. Frost really needs to stir things up to grab our attention. I feel like if she keeps going the way she is, many of us once-numberone fans will be moving on.Cat and Bones needs a little relationship drama, afterall no relationship is perfect. A little fight, and separation would do the trick and grab our attention. We want to see that their a normal couple, like the rest of us, not perfect. We want to see them fight for eachother, we want lots and lots of relationship drama that ends up with sweet, rabid love and I'm not talking about the emotional type either. Anyway, in the end, my opinion is this. I liked the book well enough, but I did not love it. I could have done without it, but as a loyal fan, like many of you, I wanted to give Mrs.Frost the chance to grab my attention once again. I'm sorry to say that she did not this time, ergo the 3 stars, but perhaps next time?

This is the sixth book in the Night Huntress series. It was a good addition to the series but was more of a transitional novel. It was good to see Cat and Bones get something of a break and fun to read a story involving ghosts.

In this book Cat and Bones are asked to track down a killer ghost by one of Fabian's friends. When Cat becomes one of the ghost's targets her and Bones have no choice but to try and figure out how to fight something non-corporeal. As a side story Cat's old team is dealing with some tough management changes after Don's death.

This was a fun story and a quick read. You learn even more about ghosts in this book as Cat is still suffering from the affect of drinking Majestic's blood in the last book. There are some new characters that join the story as ghost hunters that are amusing, but not in the story for all that long. You also learn about some additional powers that Bones is developing as well.

While this was a fun read and had some great action scenes in it; it was more of a one installment kind of book. The majority of the problems presented are wrapped up nicely. The only thing I found disappointing was that there didn't seem to be any multiple book encompassing story introduced. It made me wonder what it next for this series.

It was nice that Cat and Bones got to stay together as a couple through the book. They work wonderfully as a team and didn't have to suffer as much heartache in this book as in previous books. It is wonderful to see them as a happy couple with a relatively healthy relationship.

Overall this was a nice addition to the series. It was fun to learn more about ghosts and to see Cat and Bones develop more powers and learn to control them. This seemed like more of a transitional novel though; there wasn't a new story line introduced that will span multiple books. This makes me wonder what is next for this series. I did enjoy the fact that Cat and Bones got a bit of a break in this book and that they got to spend the book working things out as a couple. I will definitely read the next book in this series, but I wonder where this series is going long term.

Quick side note, this is the first book in the series that I read versus listened to on audiobook. I have to say I enjoy the audiobooks a lot more, in the future I will try to get these on audiobook instead.

Finally finished Jeaniene Frost's One Grave at a Time, feel so behind since reviews are out and about already. But here goes another. Overall it was a pretty good read. Like most reviews are saying this one wasn't as action-packed, there was still danger and whatnot, but it wasn't as dire.

In times before it seemed Cat and Bones's relationship might be at stake, but now we no longer have that problem. Cat has worked thorough most of her problems and she and Bones have a rather stable and healthy relationship. But when their ghostly friend, Fabian, comes to them with another ghost with a problem, Cat feels obligated to help since he's helped her. And this is what leads her to needing to kill a ghost who kills women.

Somethings about the storyline kinda of became a little predictable, like one factor towards the end. But still it was a good story, we get to see Cat's feminist side, yet really it's nothing to do with feminist issues. She wants to kill the bastard for he kills women he believes to be witches, yet before that he drives them to the point of being near insanity and then rapes them and then sets them on fire. Nice guy, huh?

So Cat and Bones want to take the b*st*rd down! They pull all their resources that they can to get him, but the ghost always seems to be one step ahead and foils their attempts to stop him.

Another issue is that there is a new boss taking over Cat's uncle's old position. Instead of Tate leading the secret team of men and vampires--and Cat's mom, a new guy comes in who's an arrogant pr*ck. He's one annoying dude. His attitude makes me want to throttle the fictional dude! I definitely see more coming from him later on in future books or at least the next one. The majority of this book was spent on trying to find and stop the ghost.

Denise and Spade make an appearance which was nice to see old friends. And they were in St. Louis! Yay for my town making another appearance! Ian was there as well and I just love him! His snarky snarmy attitude always gets a laugh out of me! I really like the moments he has with Justina, for as we know she doesn't take any vampire's crap!

Overall it was a nice read! Even if it wasn't as super exciting and thrilling and danger/action packed it was still a good read. And a sort of must read for us Night Huntress fans! It doesn't disappoint. I so can't wait for more in this series!

Overall rating 4/5 stars

I like this book but not as much as I like the previous books in the series. Maybe because Vlad was missing and Mencheres was only mentioned but didn't appear, as well. Even Tate has a very limited appearance and the rest of the team were also missing. Vlad is one of my favorite characters and it felt like there was something missing in the story when he's gone. The book was not as steamy as the previous books and even the humorous parts were lacking.

Story-wise, the plot was good. The twisted fusion of fantasy and history blew me away. I love the new character, Tyler, and I hope I get to see him in the succeeding books. Tyler and Ian are the most fun characters in this book. In fact, this won't be 4 stars without them.

As much as I'm disappointed (only a little bi!t) with this book, I'm looking forward to reading Book 7.

New to the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, I was pleasantly surprised as I stepped into the sixth book in the series, "One Grave at a Time." Typically, when jumping in mid-story, it's easy to find yourself lost in the tangle of what could have occurred vs. what you're newly learning. Not the case with Frost. Though there was certainly a past between the characters--one that I now intend to go back and discover--her concise writing style and ability to blend just enough back-story, kept the pages turning, which only led to peaking my interest for the past that much more.
It seems as though it would be a monumental task to learn and develop the mainstream skills most would imagine undertaking when becoming a vampire. However, Cat Crawfield hasn't had normal characteristics since the day she turned. She's got a few very interesting abilities that she receives from the food she ingests, which is another uncommon aspect to this vampire. Cat doesn't feed on humans and right now, she's a beacon to the dead. Not the fresh from the grave zombie-types, but the dearly departed who are linked to the earth and now spend their days in spectral form. Thankfully, Cat's never far from her co-master vampire husband, Bones or she'd be in life-threatening danger because these considerable powers are on borrowed time.
No one is more surprised than Cat when her uncle, the recently departed, Don Williams--former head of an elite group of Homeland Security--can't seem to move on. With her new-found powers, you'd think she'd be able to do something to help the man who meant so much to her, but it's not to be and when she's tasked with killing a ghost and centuries-dead, former witch hunter, she needs all the support she can get.
A distinctive blend of darkness and light, Frost will ignite your curiosity, stimulate with sexual tension, and keep you entertained with razor sharp wit in her paranormal world.

Cat and Bones are solicited for help...by a ghost. Seems some crazy stuff will be going down on Halloween and the duo needs to stop this evil before it gets worse. They enlist the help of Ian, Spade and Denise as well as Cat's mom, who's having a difficult time adjusting to her new lot in life.

We are also introduced to a very eccentric, and very gay, floral designer/medium who is helping the team with their ghostly problem. He is a total riot!

We've also got Cat's uncle, who is also getting used to his new lot as well. It seems Don has many secrets about the new commander of paranormal government agency Don used to head. We see a lot less of Tate, Juan, Dave and Cooper in the book and I have a bad feeling something awful is getting ready to happen.

As we wind down to the closing of the series, many things are set in motion in this book that, hopefully, will be resolved in the next and final book of the series. I don't know about you but I'm super excited to find out what happens!!

Hmmm, this one is stuck right in the middle of three and four stars and neither fit!

I love Cat and Bones and, unlike others, I love their relationship in this book. Rather than all the drama between them, their's is a solid yet deepening relationship with a love so strong it's palpable. That is wonderfully refreshing and encouraging. I love how Ms. Frost writes their relationship, the subtle looks, Bones intense support of Cat and defense of her against anyone who even thinks derogatory thoughts of her... Yum!!! I love the give and take between the two of them, watching them learn to compromise for each other. I disagree with those who believe there must be tension to make it interesting.

It's the over abundance of verbiage that lowered the stars (and the interest) for me. What has always been Cat's endearing, snarky and often humorous offside commentary in previous books, seemed to overtake the plot-line in this story. Almost as if there wasn't enough of a story to support a full-length novel so filler (lots of it) was needed and Cat was used as the culprit.

Example:
"My concerns were laid to rest when I spotted a ghostly figure floating over the park's rolling hills, wearing a business suit instead of an old, mended tunic. I didn't know what made certain clothes appear on ghosts - Don hadn't died in a business suit, after all - but that wasn't what I was burning to find out. He'd barely gotten with earshot before I started in on him."

Boiled down: The ghost of Don showed up wearing a business suit.

A paragraph long commentary isn't bad, and with Cat, it is often snarky fun. It is when that paragraph turns into every paragraph with only snippets of storyline and action interspersed that it starts turning into a yawner.

If I ever thought about what "paranormal" means to me, I'd probably say something like enraged ghosts, ouija boards, witch-hunts, humans contacting spirits, ... - and the whole package is in this book. Fabian has a crush on a ghost named Elisabeth that has been trying to "kill" another ghost for centuries. So far she has been unsuccessful and asks Cat and Bones to help her catch Heinrich Kramer - a witch-hunter that burns women alive every Halloween. And Kramer turns out be quite the challenge!

As stupid as it sounds, I had a hard time focusing on ghosts strong enough to inflict pain, portals opened by ouija boards, burning sage to keep ghosts away, paranormal teams... It all sounded far-fetched, even for a vampire book. Anyway, it's an action-filled story with bits of romance and I enjoyed reading it, even if wasn't as good as This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 5). It's great that Ian appears a lot since I really like him! Medium Tyler is responsible for most of the fun bits and I was relieved that Cat uses her head to solve her problems. And for me, the better story was the mystery behind the team's new chief - there is more to him than it shows, but I guess I'll have to wait for the next book!

One Grave at a Time is the sixth book in the 'Cat and Bones' series. If you haven't already read books 1-5, stop right here and head out to your local bookstore to buy them! This series is a must read for any fans of vampires, kick ass heroines, danger and adventure.

Just when you think things have calmed down for Cat and Bones (well, as much as they ever do), a ghost brings Cat the tale of a centuries old malevolent ghost who's planning a Halloween murder spree. Of course Cat will do anything it takes to help the innocent women this ghost deems "witches" before they are killed. And that may just be a problem because if there is something Bones hates more than a psycho killer, it is his wife putting herself in dangerous situations. You know Cat & Bones will save the day, it is the journey to that inevitable conclusion that makes this such a phenomenal read.

If you're a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and really, who isn't?!?), then Bones will resemble a combination of the best qualities of Angel & Spike- combined in one protective, dangerous, snarky, take no prisoners, bad ass, perfect specimen of male sexiness. Did you just swoon? Yeah, he's that good. But don't even think of breathing the same air around him because Cat would happily decorate the sidewalk with your entrails before you could even splutter "Wha?"

Trust me, you NEED this series on your bookshelf and you NEED these characters in your life!

ONE GRAVE AT A TIME was everything and more after my slight disappointment with the last book. I think I didn't realize how much I actually missed Cat and Bones until I started reading this book and then my love came back blasting in at full speed. Cat and Bones are back again this time are trying to capture a bad guy who is already dead and the question that arises is how are you suppose to kill someone that is already dead.

ONE GRAVE AT A TIME is more filled with action then romance if you ask me, so if you're hoping for some sexy Cat and Bones time then you may be slightly disappointed. I wasn't because the story kept me turning the pages faster than ever. I was so into the story that I couldn't stop.

I just love the relationships in the Night Huntress Series so much. I think each and every character in this series has brought a smile upon my face one time or another. Even though there is not that much Cat and Bones sexy time, we still get a few tender moments between them that I loved. Also my heart broke for Spade and Denise for what they endured which makes me love their relationship even more and Ian? Oh, sweet sex-fulfilled Ian.

We have more Ian this time around and I have to tell you I love him. Every time he opened his mouth I couldn't help but put this huge wicked grin on my face. He. is. HILARIOUS. I also have a new favorite character that is somewhat hot for all of our favorite master vamps. You will love this character that brings more humor and giggles to the book.

Was this my favorite Night Huntress book? No, but I loved it just as much as the other books. Pick up this book Night Huntress fans, you will love ONE GRAVE AT A TIME and if you haven't picked them up yet then what the hell are you waiting for?

My Favorite paranormal couple is back for the sixth installment of The Night Huntress series. I have loved Cat and Bones relationship from book one. They complete and compliment each other in every way.

There wasn't as much emotional relationship stuff in ONE GRAVE AT A TIME but the story was enough that I wasn't missing it TO much but will look forward to hopefully seeing it come back in book 7. Cat is still dealing with her newest borrowed ability from the ghoul queen of New Orleans so she still has a ton of ghosts following her around. An outcast ghost shows up with such a story that Cat and Bones can not help to get involved to put a bad guy away, only its not a normal bad guy, he happens to already be dead. I really loved that some of my favorite secondary characters Denise, Spade and Ian come in to help Cat and Bones out. Someone new joins the team Tyler and I really liked him. After reading the book he seems to have found a place in the "family" of characters so I'm definitely hoping we will see him again. There was plenty of action and heart stopping moments especially towards the end and the big showdown, I don't think Jeaniene has ever failed in delivering a fantastic ending.

I only have a small idea on where the story will go from the here so I'm excited and impatiently waiting to find out. If you have not read book One in the series HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE I highly recommend you start the series. I feel that book 6 could be read by itself but you would have missed out on so much awesome reading and storytelling that I would feel extremely bad for you. The Night Huntress Series and book 6 ONE GRAVE AT A TIME are must reads.

In my humble opinion, Cat and Bones get my vote for best paranormal couple (and it's really not close!)

One Grave at a Time was my least favorite of all the Night Huntress novels. Maybe it's because all series have a point when things get old and tired. I am crossing my fingers that this was just a misstep and that the same intensity and passion that made my toes curl in the previous books will return with the next. This one was difficult for me to get through. I didn't get the same urgency to keep reading as in the other books. The passion seemed to be missing between Cat and Bones (except for one very steamy scene:). There was a host of new characters introduced, but I missed the old characters.

I don't know. I think I will continue with this series a bit longer and hope that things get back to what made this series great in the first place.....Cat and Bones!

Oh WOW, I love this series!!!! This book takes place immediately after the last book and goes on for a couple months.... Cat and Bones meet a ghost who was convicted as a witch, tortured and killed for her "crimes". She wasn't a witch and has been following the ghost of the man that killed her for centuries. He has gotten strong enough that every year on Halloween he is able to become solid for one night. On that one night he tortures and kills three women by fire on a stake. Cat becomes determined to help capture this ghost and stop him from continuing his yearly torture sessions.

Along the way they meet Tyler, a Medium that helps them summon ghosts and has a crush on all hot men. I loved the little conversations (spoken and thought) that went between Tyler and Cat. He has a great personality and helped to liven up the story when it was getting too serious. We also got to see a lot more of Ian, Denise and Spade. They join Bones and Kat in trying to "trap" the ghost. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the guys from Cat's team all that much but the story does introduce a new person at headquarters and it hints at a confrontation for the next book.

This book had a ton of action and fighting, jokes throughout and the love relationship between Cat and Bones. I love this series, I think I have mentioned that already :-) and I would recommend this urban fantasy series to adult readers that like paranormal or romance.

Kat and Bones are on an adventure together. This time the adventure is not all about them. It's about stopping a 400 year old ghost, named Heinrich Krammer, who has been brutally torturing women. Ghosts can be tricky to catch, it takes smarts to outwit them - with a little butt kicking Cat and Bones style. This book furthers story lines about Cat, her powers, her family, and her associates that adds interest and perhaps hinting at what lies ahead. My favorite parts were the ending when Cat figures it out, including the political games Marie, the New Orleans voodoo queen plays to save face. In this book the story tied together nicely, more so than some of the previous.

Cats powers grow and she learns more about vampire and other non-humans worlds in this book. Cat herself remains an enigma. The relationship between Cat and Bones is somewhat like the power couple Roarke and Dallas from the JD Robb series, yet because they are vampires they get to be bad in many ways. Their vampireness allows for heightened emotions such as possessiveness that becomes part of their relationship.

I started reading this book within days of the previous one, Book 5 - This Side of the Grave. It made the reading more pleasurable. The details were fresh in my mind. Prior to that I had let a few months go by before continuing the series and found it a bit difficult to start up again. I really enjoyed this book, a combination of a murder mystery, paranormal, relationships, and adventure. It was not a stay up all night page turner.

Fabian the friendly ghost introduces his buddies to his peer Elisabeth. She explains that in 1489 when she was twenty-seven years old, a magistrate and Heinrich Kramer accused her of witchcraft; though she was not a witch only a midwife, the zealous lunatic burned her at the stake. As a ghost she spooked his horse which led to the "Hammer of Witches" being tossed to his death. However, the story does not end there as Heinrich became a ghost who over the centuries every Halloween when he gains a body he continues his inferno homicides. She wants to execute this vile ghost.

Cat agrees with Elisabeth's assertion that this abomination needs total extinction as Kramer selects three females to haunt as a ghost before he tortures and kills them when he obtains his annual body. Cat and Bones work up a plan to destroy the medieval ghost and his human sidekick, but also still must deal with her dead Uncle Don hanging around at the Lasting Peace Cemetery in Garland, Texas and Jason Madigan's plans for them and their team.

One Grave at a Time continues the fresh exciting adventures of Cat and Bones. This time in the Jeaniene Frost Night Huntress urban fantasy realm, the protagonists work on killing a dead spirit as well as her Uncle who remains on This Side of the Grave. As always in this strong series, there is plenty of action while Cat evolves further as now she is full "blooded" vampire. Readers will want to join the dynamic duo as they cope with the good, the bad and the ugly ghosts and Jason.

I think this was my favorite book of the Night Huntress Universe series thus far. It had it all- Cat was an especially epic badass, Cat and Bones had romantic moments and HOT moments, the villain was interesting and extremely vile, we got more Fabian, there was great secondary character(s) added to the mix, and lots of other "oh, awesome" little touches to make it a great story. I really appreciate how each book deals with a different element of the supernatural world Frost created. It keeps the series from feeling repetitive, and makes me eager to learn about the next discovery.

Oh how I had missed Cat and Bones. One Grave at a Time starts out just after the end of book five. One Grave at a Time has a different feel to it than the other books in the series. As it's dealing more with ghostly dilemmas other than vampire ones.

Cat and Bones know their love for one another (finally) and it was nice to see how much they mean to each other even when someone isn't focused on ripping them apart. There were some really touching scenes between them in this one (Yes there were one or two hot and steamy moments as well.) that was nice to see between Cat and Bones.

Now don't get me wrong this is not some sweet little love fest. One Grave at a Time has a lot of action in it. Cat has to figure out how to destroy a ghost that can manifest into a physical form once a year to torture and kill women. Which she soon discovers is no easy task. A lot of the old gang is back to help in this adventure, along with some new faces. My favorite of all the side characters is Ian. Oh Ian, in a lot of ways I want Jeaniene Frost to give him his own book, but then would he still be the funny pervert that I loved if he he was committed to someone? I guess I will have to wait and see.

I really enjoyed One grave at a time. It did move just a bit slower than the previous books but I feel like the emotions were better expressed in it. Can't wait for the next one!

Happy Reading,
Rebecca

One Grave At A Time is the sixth Night Huntress book. I love how the author developed a natural progression of their wonderful relationship. This couple's passion may be more covert , but it's obvious to all that their fire burns bright! Their missions take more precedence now than their time together but it's clear through every word or look between them that there will never be another for these two. Cat and Bones have a sexy and stunning relationship.
Having narrowly averted an underworld war, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans' voodoo queen just keeps on giving--leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit. Centuries ago, Heinrich Kramer was a witch hunter. Now, every All Hallows Eve, he takes physical form to torture innocent women before burning them alive. This is a great read and look forward to continue reading the series.

I have to admit that -before I review this - I am totally in love with Bones. I started out listening to these books, and I just can't help it - I want my own Bones!

At this point in the series, Cat & Bones want nothing more than time to themselves without the complications of anyone else's powers. But you hardly ever get what you want - even for a century-old, power-laden vampire like Bones. Halloween was approaching and everyone knows that is when the walls between the worlds are at their thinnest - ghosts are at their strongest.

One ghost in particular counts on this every year - Heinrich Kramer. He is a serial killer, and every year, for hundreds of years, he has women he calls witches that he kills on All Hallow's Eve. This year, Cat is determined to stop him, even at the risk of her own life. Bones, too wants him completely gone, but how far is he willing to go?

I believe this is the 7th book in the series, and I still can't wait for the next. Old characters, new characters, romance, suspense...it's all in there.

How have I not read the Night Huntress series before. I will admit, starting at book 6 might not be the best, but One Grave at a Time made me want to read the previous and future books!

After drinking the blood of a voodoo queen, Cat acquires the power to see ghosts and becomes a sort of beacon to ghosts. Her old boss Don recently passed away and is still around as a ghost. He is extremely frustrated because he doesn't know why he hasn't seen the white light yet. His passing, leaves a hole in administration at the human/supernatural team (their objective is to not let the humans know about supernatural beings).

Cat befriends a ghost named Fabian. Fabian introduces Cat and Bones to Elizabeth, another ghost on a mission to destroy Heinrich Krammer. Krammer is a witch hunter from way back, who is a crazier 'witch' hunter in the present time. Cat is determined to take out Krammer and save the lives of innocent women before Halloween is over.

I appreciate the Cat and Bones relationship. There was none of that "who will she pick" drama that you find in so many other romance books.

The first thing I want to say is I love Ian, I was starting to feel kind of bored until he showed up in the story.
And reading about Spade and Denise was nice, their love seems to get stronger with time, Spade is such a sweetheart.

This book was different compared to the other books, dealing with a ghost was no easy task, and I really enjoyed how the story developed.
I felt like the end lacked of info. We got plenty of details on how the trap was being set, but at the end we didnt get any details. It would have been nice to read about Kramers reaction.
Another thing I would like to share is how I dont enjoy reading about Cat and Bones now that theyre married, and in such peace, and call me crazy but I kind of liked when they were fighting for their relationship against all odds. Now they just seem like any other married couple, boring. Also, Bones seems so overprotective and even possesive in this story, I understand the whole vampire territorialism but this was beyond that, It was unconfortable.
I have to admit that I hate Cat's mother. Such a hypocrite, weird person.

It is a good book though.

Yet another wonderful installment to the Night Huntress series. Though, I'm starting to feel the detachment to the series like other fans. The fact that this installment wasn't as good as the last few installments, probably triggered it. The story was kind of dragging for me a little.

But Frost made up for it with a few entertaining new characters. My favorite would be Tyler and his snarky comments about the hot vampire trio (Ian, Spade and Bones). He is so gay and I love it. He made me laugh so hard! Almost as much as Ian used to, scratch that! Ian still makes me laugh. You wait until you get to the end of the book. :D

After seeing Ian again in this one, I felt bad for him because hes all alone. When is Frost going to write about his story? Aside from putting him in a novella. :( Poor thing needs some major love.

All in all, this 6th book wasn't as good as the first 5 and was missing something, but it still held its own manageable qualities. And to tell you the truth, I can't get enough of Cat and Bones' story. :D I can't wait for Vlad's in Once Burned.

Frost's series and characters have captured me! I love reading about Bones, Cat and co.'s adventures. Although some parts were somewhat grim, the slimeballs definitely deserved their comeuppance. Honestly, this might be my favorite book of the series so far, I love how Bones and Cat's relationship has evolved so far, as well as the relationships between Denise, Spade, Menchares, and Kira. I do feel a bit sorry for Ian, I hope he finds a satisfactory happily ever after.

I'm only giving this book 4 stars because i really love the series, but the author didn't manage what she did in the previous books.

The story was good, the book was well written, there were missing characters that you have grown to love throughout the series and in this book, they're not there at all. I felt that there were a lot of things that were left unanswered but if it was to build up the story for the last one then ok. I hope we can see what happened to the other friend of spade, ian and bones.

The love between cat and bones felt different, but the same, i don't know how to explain it, she did managed to write a scene in the air, that was WOW!! But other than that...

I hope the final book returns to its original grandness and we can have the finale that this series deserves.

The set up for the book was contrived. Surprise here's a new character and she knows of a big bad to fight... let's go. If this was a series like Dresden where the main characters are detectives I would have overlooked it. But Bones and Cat aren't detectives and their sole purpose in life isn't righting every wrong against humanity. Still they are altruistic enough that it worked-- with conscious effort-- but it worked.

Once the story got going it was entertaining enough-- but it could easily have been handled in a novella or a short story. The big 'revelations' to the main story line really weren't big at all. There was no character development. Ultimately I didn't see the point of this book or the story except as a bridge to the next one which is set up in this one about Madigan.

Entertaining enough... but ultimately a contrived bridge book.

Cat and Bones are at it again in One Grave At A Time, and the story picks up shortly after the gang's epic battle in the conclusion of This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress #5). Cat and Bones would love nothing more than to take some much needed time off to live normal, happy vampire lives but, not surprisingly, another adventure--this one involving an evil, woman hating ghost who takes solid form every Halloween to brutally kill three women--is thrown at their feet.

Although Cat has no real obligation to help stop the malevolent apparition from further carrying out his yearly tradition, it doesn't take much convincing to her morals from yet another ghost, Elisabeth--a new love interest for Cat's favorite friendly ghost, Fabian--for her to sign up.

Amidst their newest battle against evil, there's also trouble brewing at the old compound where a new human is in charge, a man who seems to have it out for not only vampires in general, but Cat herself.

With the exception of no Mencheres, Kira or Vlad, for the most part, One Grave At A Time is very much a multi-character driven story that focuses on nearly all of the past well known characters of the series, and sees the addition of several new ones. My favorite newbies of the bunch were gay human medium Tyler and his pudgy yet lovable dog, Dexter (my beloved Queensland is named Dexter!). Both characters (and I consider Dexter a "character" because even for a dog, he has his moments) added some great humor to the book, and I hope they'll be included in future books.

Ian is a much bigger player in this one and we're shown a side of him that we haven't really seen before. Cat makes it known that Ian rubs her the wrong way pretty much every chance he gets, but he seems to almost win her over by the end of the story and proves he's a better friend and more loyal than she ever gave him credit for. I'm wondering if Jeaniene Frost was trying to pave the way in this one for Ian to get his own Night Huntress World book in the near future. While I'm not sure I'm 100 percent sold on Ian as a solo hero, I wasn't sold on Spade or Mencheres either until I read their books and loved them. One thing Ian does do is bring the comedy.

Cat is still dealing with the after effects of her last run-in with the Ghoul Queen of New Orleans, Marie Lavea, and it seems she knows as little about the expiration date on the powers she absorbed as anyone else. Cat is still one of my all-time favorite heroines, and I don't think that will ever change. Besides being ridiculously brave and strong, the woman shows over and over that she learns from her past mistakes, and there was one scene in particular in this one that showed that well.

And together, Cat and Bones always prove that no matter what might be lacking in the book otherwise, I am always fully immersed in them when they're on the page together. They're one of the absolute best couples in romance, paranormal or otherwise, period.

On that note, One Grave lacked an abundance of love scenes, which is something I always look forward to with Cat and Bones, but the one it did have was pretty creative.

I was really excited to get back to the Night Huntress world, and I had fun revisiting my favorite characters but, I didn't find One Grave At A Time to live up to the hype in my head quite as much as I'd hoped it would. After a resounding and easily given 5 star rating for This Side of the Grave, the newest addition to the series fell a little short of my expectations and I hope it's not a sign that the series may be close to running its course. But, while it wasn't my favorite of the bunch, it's definitely worth a read for any fan of the series, and I look forward the upcoming Night Huntress Christmas story.

Since the store's rating scale is different from mine, I gave One Grave At A Time 4 stars here but 3.5 stars on the blog. Full review originally posted at: http: Happily Ever After-Reads blog

One Grave at a Time, the sixth book in Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series, has a different spin to it than her past books. There's a sense of being settled, not that there isn't wam, bam action, but many loose ends are being tied up. (Knowing Jeaniene, she'll surely throw out a zinger or two when all is said and done). The main focus is still on Cat and Bones, but this time around it's more of a group effort as their friends and associates try to take down, Heinrich Kramer, a deranged ghost, who, when alive was a witch hunter intent on torturing and burning women he accused of witchcraft. Every Halloween since his death, he becomes solid and goes on a rape and murder rampage against the women he has targeted. One ghost, Elizabeth, was a victim of his and has asked Cat and Bones for help in defeating Kramer before he can strike again. Cat is more than willing to help, and with her vampire husband, Bones on her side, she thinks exorcising Kramer will be piece of cake. Unfortunately nothing is easy for Cat.

Not only is Cat still suffering from the residual effects of drinking the voodoo queen of New Orleans' blood, where she sees spirits all over the place, but her dearly departed Uncle Don (who she used to work for as part of an underground government operative) can't cross to the other side for some reason. His replacement and new operations consultant, Jason Madigan hates vampires and wants Cat and Bones to stay far away. He'll be keeping watch over her, anxious for her to slip up and place her under arrest (or I think that's what he has planned. This wasn't really explained). Cat is more than peeved with Jason and has a big headache now with Kramer who has targeted her and anyone who helps her. Everywhere Cat turns, Kramer is there attacking her, which leads to her having more than her share of a few bumps and bruises. Kramer soon becomes obsessed with Cat, where he plans to make her another one of his victims, unless she can find a way to get rid of him for good.

One Grave at a Time is heavy on the action and non-stop thrills. Cat is thrown around, beaten up and harassed more so here than in the past. Cat never loses her fighting mojo and still has her snarky, tells it like it is attitude. Cat's one-liners are as always the best. and she has become strong, wiser and deadlier. Can we say she's a vampire bitch Wonder Woman? All she needs is an invisible jet and she's set. Bones is more in the background this time around, where he allows his kitten to shine. He's still very protective and watchful over Cat, but never smothers her or tries to take over the situation because he thinks she can't handle it. These two are the ultimate team and have one of the best married relationships I've ever read in a series. Jeaniene proves with Cat and Bones that the passion and romance is definitely alive and well after the 'I do's' are said. Even though these two aren't over the top lovey dovey, falling all over each other, they're still very in love that you can't help but sigh. One Grave at a Time isn't heavy on the sex, although Jeaniene doesn't disappoint with one eye popping love scene that will have you wanting more. It's a bit out there and shouldn't be possible with the linguistics, but I don't think any of Jeaniene's fans will complain.

Cat and Bones give me the warm fuzzies. I absolutely love these two and always look for more from them. One Grave at a Time is rip-roaring, let's take down the bad guys and eat their hearts for lunch fun tale.

One Grave at a Time is a great addition to the Night Huntress series. I loved the storyline to this book. The best thing about this book was that no one was trying to break up Cat and Bones. This is the first book where they are both facing a challenge together instead of being pulled apart by other forces. Thus. it is refreshing to see them both learn how to trust one another to be safe and work together. Bones stops trying to shield Cat from everything and allows her to hold her own.

For those that like the steamy scenes between Cat and Bones there are fewer of them in this book. There is still a pretty good one but they are fewer moments in the book. The chemistry between the two is still really strong and their love only seems to be stronger. I don't want to spoil anything with this book but it is definitely one to pick up.

I loved getting to see Spade and Denise again in this book. They really added to the story.

Cat and Bones are one of those powerhouse couples that I just can't get enough of! If they were in Hollywood we would call them Cones or Bats...ok, that might not work. This is one of my favorite series and I'll keep reading and reading and reading...keep them coming Ms. Frost.

Cat and Bones are at it again in crazy and fun hijinks, super sex scenes and rip roaring action sequences. Scary, sexy and sometimes a bit touching...you don't want to pass this puppy up if you are a fan of the series. I don't recommend it if you haven't read the earlier books. You might be able to get by with reading it on it's own - but I think you should go back and experience Cat and Bones from the beginning in all their glory!

For fans of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance, if you like your vamps sexy, sweet and kick butt, this is the series for you.

I was pretty much ready to give up on the series until this one. The relationship between Cat and Bones was less paranormal romance, and more over-the-top soap opera. In this one she brings it back to a solid mix of magic the villain is a dead serial killer), humor, romance (Cat and Bones are together for this one, which is important to a romance) and adventure. This one has all of the emotional reange and pure fun factor of the earlier works.

This functions well in the series, and as a standalone work, even though it follows right on the heels of This Side of the Grave: A Night Huntress Novel. Every book in this series works as a jumping on point without drowning the reader in backstory. For new fans, start at Halfway to the Grave if you want to read from the beginning, or just start here.

Brief Summary:

Cat and Bones are trying to keep things quiet for awhile but as usual it doesn't work out. The ghost of her Uncle has returned and Cat can't figure out why. The man who has taken over her Uncle's job and her old unit, has it out for her and all Vampires alike. If that wasn't enough, they must now hunt and trap the spirit of an evil man who is still managing to kill people even in death.

Review:
I think my title says it all. I liked this installment a lot more than the last one. It had a better pace and flow. I didn't care for the "Uncle's return" very much, it seemed like it was just thrown in. I did enjoy the conflict between our spirit murderer and the spirit dedicated to stopping him. That was brilliant! Is this my favorite of the series, no. Would I recommend this series or this book, ABSOLUTELY. This series is one of m favorites.

Absolutely love this series and I have read all of the books. This one however left me thinking "Is that it??" after I finished. The romance between Cat and Bones takes a bit of a backseat in this book. I think that's ok seeing that they are a settled married couple now...except that the story line also felt weak and wasn't developed well. The ending of the book felt as if she was in a hurry to turn in her book to be published and didn't have time to finish so she just ended it very abruptly. Missed the wit and humor that was so present in earlier books with Bones. The new character, Tyler was funny though. Love Ian but he didn't really do anything in this book except babysit. A little demeaning for his character. Felt the same way about Spade and Denise. Anyway, not her best in the series but also not a deal breaker for me as far as still being a devoted follower!

As always the Vampire Huntress series is action packed and adventure that fans will be thrilled to read. These are some of my favorite books, and always well worth the wait for new books. One Grave at a Time takes away some of the lust and wonder building on the love and adoration of Cat and Bones. It was interesting to see the shift in the relationship after some many books, but I'm hoping future installment will include the lust and love that readers have come to love from the Cat and Bones series. Frost adds Ian and Spade in a pleasureable dose to this book, and it was awesome to see the whole crew working together. As always Cat and Bones books leave you craving more, and anxiously awaiting each new read. This is a BOOKWHISPERER FAVORITE SERIES!!! If you haven't had the pleasure don't waste anymore time.

Cat and Bones are always a hit for me. Like the others in the series, this is an amazing urban fantasy story. If you like vampire books and strong female characters, I strongly recommend this series. What I particularly loved in this book was the writing and pacing. Frost's story flows so that you find yourself immersed in the world and forget that you're even reading. The characters are the other real stand-out. I couldn't put this book down once I got it in my hands. I think it's great to see romance and sexiness continued in a series after the main couple is married. Beyond that, these books are just fun to read. They always manage to put a smile on my face. I highly recommend to anyone that loves urban fantasy or paranormal romance.

Cat and Bones are back again for another intense adventure. This book takes place a few months after the last book. Cat still has the powers from the voodoo queen, you get to see how she handles so many ghosts being attracted to her. There is also the matter of taking care of a ghost that is a killer. How does one kill a being that isn't in the flesh?

Not only that but there is a new addition to Cat's old team. Don is still a ghost and hanging around. Sadly this installment in the series does not have Vlad, though it does have Spade, Denise, Ian, and even Cat's mother. The book sort of left me feeling incomplete, like the story was not fully wrapped up. Hopefully the next book will answer my questions.

This one is mainly action, and there's plenty of it. It's a more straightforward story than most of the others, but it's by no means less well written. As always, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it's a nice respite before the heaviness of the final book in the series.

This is Book 6 in the continuing saga of Cat and Bones. (I love this series!)

This story involves a lot more ghosts than vampire enemies. A witch hunter from the past has apparently found a way to continue his twisted version of 'justice' through the ages against 'witches ' he has identified , making him a serial killer that has to be stopped NOW!

Who else can do this but Cat and Bones once it has been brought to their attention.

This book not only brings up ways and means that have to be done to an essentially 'immortal' criminal that is intangible and just about 'untouchable', but has also brought back so many of our favorites from her other books. And also introduces other new friends that Cat and Bones meet.

Plus, we have the bonus of being re-introduced to family and old friends ( Ian, Tate, Denise and Spade, Fabian, and many others) whom we have cared so much about and we get to see how their lives have been progressing.

I have re-read this book 3 times since I got it. Really great stuff!

This review is based on an Advance Uncorrected Proof supplied through the the store Vine program.

I'm a big fan of today's modern dark fantasy. They are fun to read, and this one doesn't disappoint. I haven't read any of the previous Cat and Bones stories, but was able to get into this book without issue. The story is good, and the characters are likeable. Its not a romance novel, but there are a couple of hinted at sex scenes, and one which is a little more explicit.

I especially liked that the bad-ghost was based on a historical character (although someone I wasn't familiar with.) Its a nice touch.

Pick it up if you like strong female vampires who want to save the day.

ARGH!!!! When the hell did Denise become so awesome?!?!? I have just now decided that I hate spin-off series' to a main series. If you're going to attach a series to another, please, for the love of God, add it to the reading list for the main series so I don't feel so friggin lost!
That being said, I LOVE DENISE and can't wait to go back and figure out when and how she got to be so flipping amazing!!! If you're going to read this series, make sure you have the other books she's written as well, otherwise, you'll feel as if you're missing out on some of their adventure.

I am always excited for the latest installments of the Night Huntress series. One Grave at a Time is, happily, no exception to this statement. As always, Ms. Frost's characters are multi-layered; the plot is believable. Often times, in a fairly long running series, the conclusion is there for the careful reader from the first page, not with 'One Grave'. And the best part? There are new possibilities for the old characters. And that makes loyal readers like me wait impatiently for the next offering. Now when will that be?

Note to newbies...you will enjoy these books best if you read them in order.

Once again, Frost has created a masterpiece. I love these novels. Kat and Bones are every bit as fun as the True Blood Sookie Stackhouse novels. This series is a winner for anyone looking for another vampire action romance set that always keeps you on your toes. It's got a decent amount of sexual detail so it might not be good for those pre-teens unless the parents approve, but not an overwhelming amount so it's good for readers that are more interested in the action and paranormal portions of a story. You must start reading from the begining of the series or you won't get much out of the story.

It took me a long time to get into this book--and I think the reason it dragged, for me, was the complete lack of tension. The plot was fairly predictable--no mystery, just a matter of hit-and-miss of tracking down the bad guy (a misogynistic ghost, this time). Toss in some old-school vampire racism, a cartoonish medium, and more explorations of vampiric powers, and you have this installment in a nutshell.

There was no tension because you know everything is going to work out from the onset, and with both Bones and Cat now basically indestructible, I really couldn't find myself investing much interest in the outcome. None of the side characters introduced particularly held my interest, either.

The book itself was okay, not terrible but not remarkable either. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't a strong follower of the series, and I personally don't see myself looking to read another any time soon.

I love this series and was not disappointed with this latest book. The only reason I gave a 4 star instead of 5 was this book lacked some of the great Bones interactions. I felt a good part of his character in this book, was just him following along on the side line with a line or two, as compared to some of the other releases where there is a lot of dialogue and character interaction. Yes, the stories are about and centered around Cat, but Bones and Cat in their interactions together and with other characters has been so strong and humorous in past books, I missed it in this one. Still a great read.

This is a different Cat and Bones, a more mellow Cat and a distinctly powerful Bones. They're up against one incredible ghost and it takes everything in their arsenal to deal with him.

I enjoyed seeing them work as a team and watching the development of new tensions at the special unit of Homeland Security formerly headed by Don. Chapter 29 offers an erotic and beautiful Cat and Bones moment, too. While this story wasn't as exciting as the previous three, it's a solid performer and I like the direction of the series.

The first four books of this series were totally mind bending. The last couple have been pretty good, just lacking something the first ones had. I liked the new characters in this book, namely Tyler. I even liked Ian a lot better this time around, but the flying sex scene was a little out there, and the fact they rented two ghosts a house is still beyond me. I mean most humans can't see them anyway.
Anyway, with all that being said, I can't wait for the next one, because they do have lots of kick butt action.

This book plays right into the last book. now that the ghouls are no longer a threat, bones and cat are looking forward to a little down time with eachother. But noooooooo, in the last book the voodoo queen made cat drink her blood. the gift that keeps on giving. her ghost friend fabien brings Cat a friend with an awful story. a very bad man who executed women whether they were witches or not is now a ghost still devestating the innocent, burning three witches on halloween. Cat and Bones must find a way to stop him before Halloween or more will die, so much for their down time!

I enjoyed this book, maybe not as much as some other Night Huntress books, but i don't regret reading it for a second. I love all the characters, and the next book should be quite interesting!

I love this series. Though the last book featuring alot of Marie, the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans, with Cat + Bones didn't really do it for me..this one is back to better stuff. The ghosts, the vamps, secret government agency, witches..all represented in this one. Some open ends left for the next book to build on. Cat + Bones relationship as a married couple deepens, the romance is there but maybe not as provocative:). Much action after it gets going. Looking very much forward to the spin off of the "Vlad" character in "Once Burned" (The Night Prince Series) due out at the end of March! One thing about these books..all the characters are rich fodder for more development! If you haven't read Touch of Crimson..Spade's story..highly recommend too..all adult

I am an avid Frost reader, and have enjoyed every single one of her books! In fact, this is by far my all time favorite series! This book was just as fantastic as her others. Just as humorous, fast paced, and heart pounding. I won't go into detail about the plot because if you are thinking about reading this book, its because you have read the others in the Night Huntress Series. If you have read the other books in the series, then you don't want to miss out on reading this one. The new characters are fantastic. The continued romance is delectable(Although it could of used more scenes with Bone's and Cat...if you know what I mean), and the new adventure had my heart racing the entire way. I absolutely loved this book and will defiantly be reading it again. I was going to pace myself with this one, but an hour turned into three; which then turned into me finishing the book before I knew it. One Grave at a Time is a must read and I will be impatiently waiting for the final 3 books in the series. Thank heavens she has started a new series and puts out Novella's or I would lose my mind with waiting.

Only down side to One Grave at a Time was the absence of Vlad. But I guess he has his own adventures we will all soon be reading about.

I really enjoyed this book more than the last few books written by JF. I think it was solid plotting and with well developed new characters. I really loved seeing Ian again, in all honesty, I could have had a lot more of him in the book. I'll be glad when he gets his own story. Bones did seem a bit toned down, but still his personality was in tact. I guess I just miss the days when he was overly aggressive in his protection of Cat. But all in all, pretty entertaining.

This story began a a bit slow. Cat and Bones learn about the serial killer ghost and decide to seek him out and try to figure out how to kill a specter. Along the way, they pick up a new ghost and a medium. There are plenty of humorous moments and thoughts. When the real ghost hunting gets going, Spade Denise, Ian, and even Cat's mom join the group. There is quite a bit going on, making for some fun reading.

I thought the story line was great and the relationship between Cat and Bones to have grown even stronger. I would recommend this book to any fan of paranormal romances with some suspense and comedy but I do advise to read this series in order to better understand the story and characters.

I loved Tyler the Gay medium, that was a great touch .. he was such a bright spot and fun in the book. What i did not like was the flaky ghost and the ending was so incomplete and hurried. it just seemed forced, I had to go back and read just to make sure that the book did not leave some pages out.
Hoping the next book has more resolution with Don her ghost uncle and it still had Tyler the Gay dude...

I did like the book but I wanted more romance, ok sex. After reading this I went back and re-read her earlier books. The action was there and I like the fact that Cat and Bones are going strong. But when Cat alluded to the stolen moments of intimacy that her and Bones had and the one sex scene (in an awkward location!) was not enough for me. It was a good book in the series and I would recommend it for a fan.

This used to be my favorite series. I've been a big fan of Cat and Bones since the very beginning. I considered this a must buy each time a new book was released. Don't get me wrong, books 1-4 are still great but since book 5, and now this book, I'm beginning to think that the end is (and should be) near. I struggled to get through This Side of the Grave and I spent half of this book skimming to find some interesting plot point. Call me a snob but I like this series because it was about vampires but now it seems like JF is putting more effort into ghostly characters and the rest of her established characters are paying the price. Thank goodness JF already released 2 books about Vlad (which are great) - I think it is time that she finishes Ian's story and then let Cat and Bones live their HEA.

One Grave at a Time was an action packed book that just as it seemed like I was catching a breather, then something else happened! Cat and Bones are a great team doing a favor for their friendly ghost, Fabian. Other friends of Cat and Bones come to help them out, which was really nice. The story line was very good, although I have to say, I felt disappointed that the spike out about the Control Center with Tate being demoted and a strange character, Madigan, took his place. Don, Cat's ghost uncle was trying to figure out what was going on. To be honest, that was distracting from the story and could be a book in itself. I was let down with the ending which felt just thrown together. Yes, there was resolution, but it could have been done better. I also noticed there was less intimacy in this book and more action.

It's always a pleasure to read about Cat, Bones and their friends but this one was a little...flat. I must say, Twilight had been a blockbuster hit for the teenagers out there but if ever movie moguls decide to buy the rights for this series, this would be way better than any of those vampire stories combined! I love Cat & Bones and I'm always happy to visit with them again but for some reason the spark is gone for me. I find a lot of the story telling time is spent recalling the events of past books or from inside Cat's head explaining her motives for every action. I'm really missing the humor and fast pace of the earlier books.
I do enjoy Cat & Bones relationship now though. They are past words or actions. There is an easy confidence between them and I like that.
Quite a few of the characters are missing from this one (notably Vlad & Mencheres) but I think that made for a tighter story so I was ok with that. Besides it had my personal favorite - Ian!
I enjoyed it more than This Side of the Grave and it's a must read for any Cat & Bones fan.

I am a little upset about the cover for this book. I can understand that the original cover model had to change because the previous one was no longer doing it anymore. What I can't understand is the reasoning in using a model that looks to fragile and puny to be our beloved Red Reaper. She is pretty and such, but she is not fierce looking like the original one used. Aside from the cover being what it is, the story was still a great read. So the cover will be overlooked on my part since the story proved to be better than the artwork.

While I loved the action filled story, I felt that this book was more of a filler book. Something to appease the fans until the next big book. Yes, there is a plot and story filled with action, but at times it did get to be a little repetitive. Find the ghost, chase the ghost, ghost gets away, then repeat. It got a little frustrating for this reader. Add on top of that only one great sex scene between the two great characters of Bones and Cat. I needed some more sexiness that I have grown to love between the two. Yes, I understand they have grown in their relationship and true love is more present between the two in this book, but only Bones can bring out the fierceness of bedroom sexy we crave! Bring it to us Bones!

While some characters from previous books are present in the story, I was a little heartbroken for their brief page time. Vlad was mentioned once, but never seen and Tate was only shown for a small few pages. I wanted the author to bring back the witty fierceness and romantic sexiness that we crave when reading a Night Huntress series.

Overall, it was a good book to build the next storyline that the author will reveal. I am just disappointed that we have to wait yet again for the Cat and Bones we have grown to love.

First off, Jeaniene Frost's Cat and Bones series is one of my favorite series. With that said, this book was a complete disappointment. The love story between Cat and Bones was missing and the ghost story was a bore. Normally I get so engrossed in the Cat and Bones books that I read them cover to cover in one night. Who needs sleep, right? It took me forever to read this book since it was so boring that I could not read more then a chapter at a time. I kept reading only because I thought the book would get better but it didn't.

I would like to preface this by saying that the Night Huntress Series has been one of my most favorite PNR series. I preordered this book and it has take until today to finish it. Usually I can't put the books down, this time I could bearly force myself to pick it back up. It was an utter bore and thoroughly predictable. This is a series that I have come to love and characters that I cared about and by the end I could not have cared less. I found Cat to be not snarky (and not in a good or humorous way) but juvenile. Ian was more mature. Bones was totally phoned in. The relationship between Cat and Bones is dull. The action was chopped up. The story line was a good idea that went no were. No suspense, no romance, no humor. I looked forward to this book and it completely fell flat. If this had been the start of the series, for me, it would have been the last too.

As I read these books I am falling more and more in love with Cat and Bones. Their relationship has so many facets. Bones is a true vamp bad boy with all the right moves..(wink!) There is plenty of action on and off the field!

Cat is so stupid sometimes and so arrogant it just gets me upset. I like book 1 thru 4. Book 5 was basically a whole bunch of rambling. It drags on forever! And with book 6, Cat is gettting on my last nerves. *sigh* I'm done with this serie. Doesn't seem like she has anything interesting to write about anymore. On to something new.

I'm not going to provide a synopsis as that has been repeatedly done by other reviewers. Rather this review will be a reflection my opinion and reaction to my experience. First let me qualify my review, I am a true reader, I read approximately three books a week of different genres: science fiction / fantasy (paranormal: vampires, shape-shifters, demons, faeries, and aliens), mysteries, romance (contemporary, historical, erotica), novellas, and series. This book is my first introduction to the Night Huntress series. I could definitely tell that there were links that I missed stepping into the series at book six. However, I did not really like this book. Mostly, I am truly disappointed with the author.

I found Frost's style of writing easy going; but, the storyline was too mishandled by the author, leaving me frustrated and feeling betrayed for investing my energy in the book. There were subplots that just evaporated. The homeland security storyline fizzed out. Madigan's motivation, intentions, secret agenda, and fixation with Cat remain a mystery. Uncle Don's involvement with Madigan remains unknown along with his intentions. The ghost buster team just disappears with no subsequent mention. But, again this could be because it's one book in a series. I guess that's to keep the reader buying more books of the series to get those answers. I craved more of the action; but, that's because I was marginally entertained and intrigued by the supporting characters and wanted to have more time with them.

I did enjoy most of the characters: Tyler, Ian, Bones, Denise, Spade, Fabian, Elisabeth and even the pets. I did enjoy Cat's chemistry / relationship with her husband, Bones (vampire). Their love was palpable. There were a couple of interesting sex scenes; but, that too left me unfulfilled. The way the author weaved the sex scenes had me fluctuating between a desire to skim them and being enthralled by them. Nonetheless, Bones, Cat, and their friends made a skilled and refined competent team who were generous, caring, loyal, and protective of each other and the mortals against evil forces. Tyler, a gay mortal medium lusting after the alpha males especially Ian was a highlight for me; he was refreshingly funny as was Ian, a fellow vampire. I did not find Cat (Vampire) to be half as witty or funny as she thought she was; her attempts at being funny were tiresome because she was diligent in her efforts; but, it just did not connect with me.

The evil witch hunting deranged powerful malevolent poltergeist was a good villain; but again, there was lot of baiting about what he was going to do then when the time came, he sizzled. The main characters spend most of the book creating a trap for the villain; but, you don't get to see the trap used. The ending felt like I was dropped from the sky without a parachute. I repeatedly searched (re-read about five times) the last six pages of the book and I still haven't found it. What the author provided was so anti-climactic, it still disturbs me.

As a series reader, I would recommend reading this book if you enjoyed other books in the series. But if you are looking for a series to read, I would pass on this one. Based on the satisfaction of other reviewers, I would say that this author has not mastered the balance needed to write a good series. All in all, this book buried me in 358 pages just to leave me frosty. This is not a bad book; it's just not on the saame level as her other offering in the series.
