As usual, the dialogue among characters is priceless for humor and human insight. The mystery itself is also intriguing and at times very exciting. Donna Leon is really a master of her craft, among the very best.

Every story woven by Donna Leon about Guido Brunetti transports one to the sights and smells of Venezia! She is the smell-o-vision writer of Venice for those of us who can't be there all of the time. Mille Grazie.

I like all of Donna Leon’s Commisario Brunetti books. Sophisticated & wry humor as well as astute observations abound. No need to suffer with overly complicated plots, but still surprises & keeps audience on toes,

Another great Commissario Brunetti novel; I have them all and love them! I am of Venetian descent (and have been to Venice many times) and I find the characterization of the city and its inhabitants to be spot on.

Have to love Donna Leon. . . this addition continues to be vintage Leon with her integration of Guido Brunetti's family life and detective work, sharing the inner workings of his mind and that of his characters.

As always Brunetti and his family are fascinating, the setting in Venice make for wonderful reading, the plot was full of interesting sidelines and the characters are fully developed. I love this series.

I have read and loved all of the Commissario Brunetti stories but I think this is well among the best. The reader can revel in the delights of Venice without having to deal with the crowds. It is a good idea to read earlier books first where the characters are described in more depth. Now they seem like old friends that you already know well.

Not my favorite, and lacking the quintessential Leon stamp of family, food, Venice. It is hard to enjoy a book when the lead characters are so unlikeable. Regardless, the writing is engaging and the Commissario is appealing.

Donna Leon is a great writer of mystery stories. Highly recommend for detailed plots, insights into the life style of Italians, especially those living in Venice. Combines mystery with the romance of Italy.

I have loved this series and the character of Brunetti. This one seemed to make leaps where plot was concerned to move the story, instead of developing in a way that made sense. An abbreviated storyline was missing some of the rich texture of Venetian life that makes the other books in the series so enjoyable. It felt like a book added to sell books to a fan base that already exists, not a story with a reason on its own. Usually those stories are told through the perspective of the Commissario but this one started with the subject character, who is somewhat shallow and self-interested, and then a little bit through Brunetti's observations. Muddled.

The ending was very disappointing. I felt like a chapter had been omitted as if the book had been rushed to publication. The author needs not to rush to publication but to construct a more thoughtful and complex book. I have read all of her books but am becoming a bit disillusioned with the lack of serious plot line, motive and characterization.

A fine addition to the Brunetti series. The roundabout way the commissaro solves each mystery is always a pleasure, as this time is the return of the opera diva from the first book. But one always really reads for the sense of place in Venice and the complex unfolding of the regular cast of characters, who have depth and personality, and for Guido Brunetti himself, an almost honest investigator in a beautiful, corrupt city.

Disappointing. The plat had several twists, and I liked the idea of revisiting "La Fenice", but the ending was more puzzling than enlightening. The assumption made early on that two different events were linked was unsupported by any early clues. As always, Brunetti and his family were lovely, though not particularly developed further from earlier books.

Another installment in the Venice Police Commissioner sagas. Once again, you can smell the coffee and wine, eat the great food and solve a crime with as many twists and turns as the canals themselves.

The talent Donna Leon has for expressing the characters feelings in her story is exceptional. It has been some time since I read a Guido Brunetti story, but I always enjoy the character. Can't wait for the next book.

I appreciate Donna Leon's attention to contemporary issues. She teaches about social/cultural problems while weaving them into a commanding mystery story. In this book, she addresses violence toward women, including violence of women toward women and stalking of famous women by other women. I loved the sudden ending.

For anyone who has read other Donna Leon mystery novels this follows the general pattern, with neither great surprises or disappointments. It is charming with warm characters who you would like to know to maintain one's interest to the very end.

Very disappointing...almost like Donna had not written it...too long passages about the opera setting...not enough about the life and family of the Commissario. I will read her next book to decide, for myself, if this was just the odd book out

Donna Leon delivers a masterfully wrought mystery while guiding us through life in Venice, police corruption, intrigue on the internet, the mind of a stalker, and the vagaries of long term marriage with an intellectual.

Donna Leon's prose is fluid, lyrical and unsuspectingly seductive in its clarity. This new edition to the series of Commissario Guido Brunetti is a welcome edition. Puccini fans will find it a satisfying introduction to the series.

Leon is one of the best writers of detective stories, and she plainly loves and admires Brunetti. By the end of your second Brunetti novel, you'll love him too. In this book, Brunetti investigates a shadowy stalker who showers roses on the victim.

Commissario Brunetti does not fail to charm the reader in this latest adventure, where suspense is mingled with the opera world while enjoying at the same time still another voyage-like experience to La Serenissima.
