Single moms - must have for growing boys. Who is going to give them "that talk?" Now they can come to you with questions if they need to but they also have a book to reference for those embarrassing questions about puberty. I read through it before I gave it to my 10 year old. I know he will learn a lot from reading it.

This was incredibly embarrassing to the 11 year old so I had him go one chapter at a time reading with his dad. The biggest issue is that while this handled the puberty issues, it did not discuss sex (urges, safe sex, etc.) beyond wet dreams so while he has a reinforced the dangers of testosterone abuse, it didn't serve as a comprehensive "embarrassing talk" guidebook. I was hoping that this would help us touch on topics and reinforce ideas that might be confusing or "in one ear, out the other" with our frequent passing discussions. I know there is *no* lazy parenting guide that excuses us from the frequent, open, factual conversations (of sex, drugs, violence, love, danger, joy, ethics, etc.) with our kids, I'd just hoped this book would be more of a resource than it turned out to be.

Boys often want to know what happens to their bodies as they grow. This quick reference guide provides answers in a straight talk factual manner. The table of contents list details for each chapter covered along with an age time line for quick reference. Each stage of puberty is covered with pictures and terminology so readers can understand the specifics of their changing body without feeling overwhelmed. There are plenty of recommendations for products and foods to help readers keep themselves healthy and groomed. At the end of each chapter readers can take a quick quiz to test their knowledge. Answers to quizzes are there too so the reader can check their accuracy. Readers are encouraged to ask parents and their family doctor questions. Bullying has been a touchy subject in the past, it is covered in a strategic manner to help the reader learn how to handle a bully. Mar and Norwich do a fabulous job of of covering this topic from the sensitive to the general. All questions are answered about a boys changing body and what he can expect at a certain age. Parents and teachers can use this as a guide to introduce boys to their bodies in a manner that won't embarrass or hinder the reader from asking questions

Well written with a style kids relate to.. not taking the subject too seriously. Love the use of humor. As a retired social worker, I wish I would have discovered this while I was still working with kids.

This book was recommended by our school counselor as an indroduction to the topic of puberty. The subject is tought in our 5th grade classes and we purchased several books the summer prior. It was a great way for my then 10 year old son to read on his own and then discuss with me (mom).Letting him become familiar with the subject matter at home and at his own pace was much more comforting to him. Regular bathing had started to become a sticking point and after ready a few of these books he announced that he was now going to "shower each morning, use deodorant and start using a face-wash".

Purchased for my son after looking at several options. Wanted something to introduce and be informative about body changes and health without being too graphic. My son is 11. This was a good choice.
I pre-read book before gave and feel good for his age. He found book "gross" and did not want to read with me however has read on his own and come to me with questions and concerns.
