The Mother of Black Hollywood: A Memoir

Raw, honest and vulnerable. That's how I would describe "The Mother of Black Hollywood", so many lessons that are applicable to us all, not just those who follow the same path as Ms. Lewis. The ability to be self aware is truly a gift and no matter when that self-awareness comes, embrace it. Own it. Love it.

For anyone who have struggled and is attempting to self actualize, this is the inspiring autobiography. Also, this book is crazy funny. I laughed out and tears streamed down my face. Last, if you ever experience Jenifer Lewis interview, you know the book is in her voice.

I loved the book. Kept me laughing, made me think about something's, maybe a little sadness in it. One thing I loved The Most about the book is the fact that she read it herself, it was wonderful and made it alp the more REAL! A definite read. I certainly suggest it

This beautiful intelligent woman truly understands that we must help each other. Having the courage to tell her story and knowing the difference it would make in the lives of her readers is so wonderful.
This is more than a star writing about herself. This is therapudic. Many will be helped. Great job by a black queen.

HONEST, interesting life as a real star who exposes entire experiences and encounters of individuals she met or worked with in the industry. Her therapist brought her pain to fruition after struggling with being bi-polar. Excellent reading especially if you are a fan!

I really enjoyed this book! Very entertaining, relatable, and honest. I have been telling everyone to go out and support this book because her story can resonate with almost everyone. You either have been through similar situations or know someone who has. Well done Ms. Lewis!!!

Her honesty about her life was so refreshing. I gave this book five stars because I read this book cover to cover and learned more about mental illness than I have ever know. I recommend this book to all whom know of someone or who suffer in silence with mental illness.

What a phenomenal memoir. I enjoyed her career evolution. I learned so much about her Broadway origins that I had no clue about. I appreciate how she laid out everything about her life. Her successes, failures and triumph over Bipolor disorder. Even sharing her denial. I bought the Kindle version on a deal but I regret not buying it sooner and it's worth every penny paid.

I truly loved this autobiography. Ms. Lewis is for certain the Mother of Black Hollywood! I laughed, cried, and felt all of her triumphs and tribulations. Jenifer is a LEGEND who continues to reign supreme!

Very real and left me feeling like Jennifer Lewis was a close family member. I loved her willingness to tell her story like it "T - I - IS", all while being vulnerable and open. I am getting copies of her book for my girlfriends for the holidays! Love you Ms. Lewis! - L.S. of Denver, CO

I admired Jenifer Lewis before reading this book....after reading the book the admiration has grown by leaps and bounds......the honesty and transperancy was leaping off the pages. If we are all honest with ourselves we each have lived some part of her life just not all together like her.....One thing for sure and two things for certain she is the Mother of Black Hollywood bitches!!!!

Jenifer Lewis' story is revealing, helpful and insightful. If you're dealing with any issue in life, Jenifer probably has been through it. Her process for healing and honesty about her struggle is heartfelt. I truly enjoyed this book and will suggest its reading to all my sistas.
