A different perspective as seeing life through the eyes of the characters, not being far from the reality of what is life for most of us (me) It could really be that "HE" hate us all despite us being his own creations.

I live in Venice, California. I frequent some of the spots Hank does on Californication. I like Hank Moody the character because he is ironically satisfied with much of the west LA nonsense you find in the hood.

This book is not Hank Moody. Yes, I know Hank Moody doesn't exist and therefore could not have actually written a book. I get that. What I don't want to read is some watered downed Brett Easton Ellis wannabe scripting some drivel in an attempt to sound like Moody.

To be quite frank, I bought this more for shelf decoration because I am pretentious and vain and can relate to Hank Moody the character, but when I finished reading this book in a local bar, I handed it to the bartender and told him he could have it.

If you want a book with a cool cover that let's people know you watch a cool tv show then buy this but don't read it. Reading it will only make you want to give it away.

It's clear the writer tries to imitate Hank Moody's style, but fails quite miserably. While in the show, Hank is irresponsible and reckless, he is also very smart and eloquent when it comes to his writing. He's cynical in a very smart and witty sense while the author of this book tries way too hard to be cleverly depressing. I watched all 7 seasons of Californication before ordering this, and my hopes were set up pretty high. Maybe it would have helped if Duchovny wrote the book because he actually played the character. Bottom line is: if you're a fan of the series, you should probably get it because it's a reminder and cool collectable from a great show, but if you wanna read a real Hank Moody novel, you're gonna be disappointed.

Love the show; hated this poor excuse for a book. The show is one of the best written tv episodes ever made (if watched from season 1, episode 1). There's a great story, great character development and interaction, trials and tribulations to relate to, provocative dialog to ponder. It can be funny as hell or deep and dead serious. The book doesn't come close to that. The sex, drugs and overindulgence are there - written in Hank's voice but that's it. I read a lot and I've never rated a book with one star. This is the first time. I can't imagine anyone would published this for any other reason than to capitalize on the success of the show.

It's not quite what I expected the character Hank Moody to have written and become the successful book/movie depicted in the Californication series on Showtime, but it's okay. It's a fairly quick read.

There are some very funny parts in the book which made me laugh out loud.
Although I would never aim for a career in drug dealing, the story definitely made me think about how exciting life can be by just letting go and start going with the flow.
It's a quick and funny read and I would buy the sequel anytime.
