I really loved this book about a man who traveled to learn about building hedges, met a divorce ed woman, who kept men distant. But this story has so much more, in depth and characters. I look forward to another book by this author.

For me the story became tedious with too much discription. Also, I didn't realize that witchcraft was going to be a part of the story. For me that part of the story could have been left out altogether and it wouldn't have decreased the overall story.

Too bogged down in details of hedge building. I felt the story line was overshadowed by these details. The best writing - with detail - was the water.
I didn't really care for the main characters but adored Lilly/Lee.

Taking on a natural phenomena of critical proportions and weaving the characters lives and stories into one of LOVE and caring and growing friendships was a piece I could not put down. Again would love a sequel here!!!!

This was a very good book. It had suspense, love, mystery and happiness. I always like how two people come together no matter what is happening to and around them. Read this book and you will love it too.

I enjoyed to characters built and developed during the storyline. There is some local lore thrown in to get a feel of the history of the small coastal town where this story takes place. It sounds beautiful.

Water, Stone, Heart...couldn't put it down! Will North took me to Boscastle, showed me the beauty of the land, introduced me to fabulous folks, my favorite has to be Lilly, AKA Lee, AKA Miss Guess What! Nicola & Andrew are fun and charming and couldn't we all be so fortunate as to have a Sir Michael in our lives?? An ex-father-in-law who not only knows but acknowledges his son's evil acts! Stir into the brew the mystical magical Witchcraft shop and the casting aside of old demons..L' Chaim! A must read! I missed Will North's debut into fiction by way of The Long Walk Home. Be sure to also look up Boscastle, the actual flood, the town info. I am off to my next read, by my newest, latest, greatest, favorite author...Will North!

I choose five stars because of the history and complex relationships he describes throughout the book.
This book is not a page turner in the fact that you want to race to see what's happening next. It slowly draws you in to continue to read slowly in order to absorb the details.
Definitely a good read.

A magical story about love, loss and friendship. The storytelling stays true to actual events which makes it all the more riveting. You'll love the characters and how they develop throughout the book.

Nicely done, and feasible too. Bit too much detail on specs of building stone walls; so I admit skipping some of those paragraphs,(which is why only 4 stars). Unexpected excitement, and very well done at the end, based on a real natural disaster; good plot development and likable characters..

Will North is a brilliant writer. After reading Water, Stone, Heart, I'm simply amazed and feel immensely happy of having `discovered' this novel. The way North writes made me feel in harmony with myself, like everything is in the place it should be. I salute North for having written this delightful piece of literature and cannot wait to read The Long Walk Home.

This was a nice romantic story, but the characters did not hold my interest -- all of them were too cliche. Did ALL of the village residents have to be friendly to strangers and full of folk wisdom? Did the 40-year-old heroine HAVE to have the figure of a 20-year-old? Did all of the tourists HAVE to be either lazy, ignorant of local customs, or inappropriately dressed? Was there only one child in the whole village? etc.
The best parts of the novel were the non-fiction sections. The descriptions of the flood, the hedge-building, and the landscape were all riveting and expertly done. It was clear what was going to happen to the characters, but the teasers about the flood kept me turning the pages. Apparently this author was a non-fiction writer before, and that shows! If the characters were more realistic (or if there were a few realistic characters) I'd recommend this book to anyone.

This being a "virginal" experience ..I'm beyond knowlege of the "proper" way to write a review.. Like his first book (another high 5 star book), I read this in one sitting (yeah I did eat and "go"...but)From the first sentence I'm hooked! He draws you in and I can't let go til the last page. What a brilliant writer!! I'm already looking forward to his next novel. And...my Christmas list,(I'm hard to buy for..) will have these 2 titles on for my "keepers" !

but for 40-somethings, Andrew and Nicola are a bit pathetic. I think Andrew's a bit of a "Gary Stu," actually - from staid professor (who's not even known to jog) to acclaimed stone wall builder in a week, without even benefit of ibuprofen! And he gets the girl!
Wish I'd seen the back cover first - I'd have been warned off by the fervent comparisons to Nicholas Sparks and Robert James Waller.

I loved the setting for Water, Stone, Heart. Will North does a good job with the details and I have always been a fan of books set in English countrysides. It made me want to go there to visit. I liked his first novel as well. I always enjoy getting to know the different characters and the relationships they share. I would recommend this book.

Water, Stone, Heart is a beautiful love story that shows you there is hope when there has been great pain. You can overcome and learn to love again. Will North is an author to keep your eye on. A very touching love story. I would recommend to everyone who has ever loved or has a desire to do so, which is everyone. Five stars!

Great novel to read! Sat and finished within a day or so. Loved the descriptions of the town and physical aspects of the country. Perfect for a gift! I enjoyed it so much that I got his first novel The Long Walk Home to read after.
