The book is a complete fraud, the characters aren't even close to a Clancy character. It looks like he asked someone else to write it and didn't even read it before stamping his name on it.
I read all the Jack Ryan books and always looked forward to the next when he was writing a book every year or two. I bought this without reading reviews because it was a Clancy, and it wasn't.
Don't waste your money. And Mr. Clancy, please start writing again, or don't put your name on something beneath your talent.

Disappointing for a Clancy novel. None of the typical suspense and intrigue. I am disappointed in these co-authorships. You get sucked in by the name you love only to realise it is a book by someone else, without your favourite authors skills

Similar to the more recent Clancy books (Teeth of the Tiger and later), he's big on action, and not quite as big into the political intrigue that was more evident in his earlier books. Even so, this is not to say this isn't a smartly written plot. I found the plot interesting with enough twists to remain exciting throughout. The characters were well developed. The action starts early and continues throughout without ever becoming redundant or ridiculous. All-in-all, a very entertaining book.

If you love Tom Clancy, suspense, or just great books, you will love this book. I am a big Tom Clancy fan because I love his writing style. His books usually start slow, but what he is doing is telling you about several different plots that will eventually converge into huge suspense. Sometimes I even read his books multiple times because I don't realize the importance of the earlier parts of the book. All of his books are worth reading.

For thoese of us who exercise, just reading about the qualifications of becoming a seal is exhausting. Clancy and co-writer give an emotional and factual story of a able bodied person in the main character. He takes us to far away places using both description and deeds of our heros and villians. This may be slated for the men but an educated woman can be excited about this story also. DH

Mine was a provocative love/hate relationship. So tense, so intriguing, and writing pulls you in to where you get so angry & frustrated with the situation. It seems like a story our leaders and populace should take to heart though. Even the end was...

I have always loved the Clancy writing. It wasn't always the same. It wasn't always predictable. But it always kept you on the edge of your seat.
Until now. Introduce you to a character...Kill him off. Wasn't tense. Wasn't hard to guess what was going to happen next.
I'm very disappointed. Not that this was that bad, just that I know there will never be another Clancy story.
This was that far off.

The Clancy estate should probably ask to have his name removed from the authorship credits. I have been reading Tom Clancy books for decades and this is the most poorly constructed I have ever read. There is almost no craftsmanship in the phrasing, or plot lines. The editors should have never allowed this to be published in this condition.
I will not be reading any more TC books without first sampling. It's just a terrible waste of a good author's name

I agree with the general theme of most reviews that it is evident the book has been ghost-written because of the detail flaws. Having said that, I thought the story was good, interesting and somewhat fresh. It may interest me more because I live in Texas and we see the drug/gun activity on a daily basis. I did enjoy that even drug cartels are not big fans of radical Islamists.

This is a very disappointing read. I've always enjoyed Clancy, and found his 2010 publication quite good, but this is just drivel. The plot isn't Clancy, the character development isn't Clancy, the action scenes aren't Clancy. There ought to be a law against putting someone who isn't the author in big bold type on the cover!
As others have suggested, save your money; this isn't what you're looking for.

This is the first Clancy novel I have read since "Sum of All Fears." I just couldn't get into his work after that. I picked this book up because a co-worker said it was really good. The storyline isn't bad, but this does not begin to read like a Tom Clancy novel. Not that his recent work has been very good, but you will never convince me that he wrote this. I agree with other posts that suggest he was probably consulted by Peter Telep, whom I've never heard of. I can take it or leave it, but as great novels go, this is mediocre at best. Don't start reading with high expectations or you will be disappointed.

Action is non existent, the numerous flashbacks make the story too hard to follow and desperately fail to give some psychological background to the main character.
What has Clancy gotten into?
