This is the BEST book out there on parenting siblings! As an only child, I wanted to prepare for and parent as well as possible - both of my boys. This book was so well written and engaging - great comics help make the points! It's helped me avoid so many things I could have inadvertently been doing to create rivalry between my boys. It's been absolutely beautiful to watch the relationship develop between my boys - sibling relationships are SO complex - and the kids learn so much about other human beings from being a sibling. Please get this book - you'll be doing your children a great service by reading, understanding, and thinking about how to be the best parent you can be for your children!

Siblings without Rivalry is a great read, with so much information to apply to present life at home with children, and for relating back to one's own childhood and sibling relationships. After reading the book, I feel encouraged that I can positively help my children form respectful and caring sibling relationships.

While there were some good pointers in the book, I really did not like the format of the book and I thought it was a far too simplistic way of dealing with conflict. It assumes all children will act in one way, which is far from true. I also thought there were far too many stories from the parenting group. I didn't think these added very much to the book, especially since there were already the cartoon depictions of different scenarios. I just started skimming through them by the middle of the book. I thought they were a waste of time. I was very disappointed in this book. Hopefully there is a better one out there.

This book is so incredibly practical and sensible. It also is an easy read. Of course it is easier to read than apply but parenting is difficult no matter what, but this book gives moments of "oh wow, so that's what's going on, now I know what to work on. . .or that's what needs to change." I would recommend this to anyone as it helps build the relationship between the parent and child(ren) and between the siblings - probably changing dynamics that could have negatively affected their relationships for life.

This book is fabulous and offers many great ideas. I believe every parent of two or more children will find it worth their time to read. The reason I didn't give a full 5 stars is because I didn't find too many answers for handling very young children. I have 3 children with a total of 3 years space between the oldest and the youngest and right now the oldest is 5. He responds to the ideas in the books but the other two are still too young...so we continue to have altercations and unrest (that I hope will be greatly reduced in the next few years!)
In short, the book is great but reading it didn't eliminate rivalry in our house....yet(?)

So helpful as an only child with three girls ages 2, 4 and 7! Especially since the 4yr old just arrived causing a whole new set of issues (and great times) as she is my husband's daughter from previous relationship.

Nothing earth shaking but some excellent suggestions and "mindsets" for creating a more peaceful and respectful atmosphere at home. It has a good approach for parenting in general, but I also found the suggestions of not comparing and helping kids work conflicts out on their own to be a good reminder.

I just finished this book and really loved it. Not only did I learn a lot of easy, affective ways to handle fighting, competition, favoritism and more with siblings, but it also helped me come to some realization about my own childhood and relationships with my siblings.

If you have siblings, or are parenting siblings, pick up this quick read for sure!

I missed something, I think. There are so many great reviews of this book but I found it pedantic and unhelpful. Scenario after scenario made it a boring read and very little of the information was helpful for a mom with two toddlers. I think I might put this away for a few years and revisit it once the kids (3 and 1 1/2) are older. Hopefully, I will find a more applicable book in the meantime and won't have to come back to this one later.

This book is excellent. Their book about "How to talk so kids will listen" felt like it contained things I already knew. And in this book, I already understood the basics about respecting each sibling individually. But it's the specific examples and recommendations in this book which made me realize how much I had to learn in this area, and already, I'm doing much better as a result of having read it. I really enjoyed reading this, and it's one of the few books which I think I may re-read later on as a resource.

Awesome book on siblings. Love the cartoons that easily explain the concepts, great examples. I've started using some of these techniques with my 3 and 2 year olds (only 14.5 months apart), and though they're still young, I love watching my big one learning how to constructively interact with his sister, I'm sure it'll only get better as they get bigger.

None of us thinks OUR kids will be those siblings who squabble. But all siblings do - some worse than others. This book was recommended to me by a family therapist. It's an easy read, easy-to-implement, and very practical book. When reading it, I'd think "Well of course!" But truth is, we get lazy or forgetful as parents, and this book helps to remind us of how to parents sibs more effectively. I refer to it frequently. I give it as a "gift" to many of my colleagues who are starting to have their second or third child(ren).

This book was recommended by Alfie Kohn (the highly recommended author of Unconditional Parenting) and I have found it to be well-written and kind. The authors emphasize listening to your children, freeing yourself from taking sides and putting an end to creating sibling competition through comparisons, for example. They guide you through these ideas and others in a very readable and clear, concise way. I like the cartoons too, as a quick visual reminder. Highly recommended!

Wonderful read for parents dealing with Sibling issues. Our children are 18 months apart, but implementing some of these tactics I have cut down on quite a few problems. It doesn't stop over night but I have seen a remarkable improvement.

While reading this book I became happier and had much hope with my children. I want to recommend to every mother and father I know.
Now it's time for me to skill up myself and feel the happy sibling atmosphere.
Thank you, Adel and Elaine.

If you have more than one child ... Read this. Even if you think you're doing everything right. There is never too much to learn when it comes to helping create a better life and home for your children.

Highly recommended read. Good theory, examples and quick review notes to implement. I'm happy I purchased this one for my iPad, I borrow a lot of parenting books from our local library, but I'm glad to have this one for future reference. Spans many stages and age levels (even into adulthood).
