84 Charing Cross Road (VMC) by Helene Hanff (2002-10-03)

A bookseller recommended this book to me as I was buying another book about England. It is a delightful tribute to reading culture, reminding us that there is an almost romantic seduction to the sharing of literature between two people. The juxtaposition of mid-century London and New York is historically appealing and will enchant readers who have experienced wanderlust for either America or Britain.

Acerbic at times, poignant at others... delightfully heartwarming always. This collection of letters comprising a 20 year correspondence between American Helene Hanff and Englishman Frank Doel -- 2 people who never actually met in person -- makes for an absolutely charming read!

An old book (1970), a quick read (probably less than 3 hours), shows the author's wicked sense of humor. Letters covering 20 years (1949-1969) between a book lover in NYC and the employees of an antiques bookstore in London.

I bought this book for a "bibliofile" friend and she loved it, I also bought the DVD of the movie to enhance her enjoyment of the story.
The book came in excellent condition..would buy from this dealer again..

I happened across this sweet little book in the library. What a delight! I have a friend who is a true bibliophile like Helene. I gave it to him for Christmas and he raves about it every time I see him. Cleverly constructed. Some insights into life as lived in London after WW2 also.

This was recommended by several friends, and once I read this quick letter based book, I understand the interest. It is a sweet book revolving around two strangers who became friends through correspondence covering ten years. I have not seen the movie, but I will now.

Yes excellant service. 84 charing cross - the stage version - arrived all neatly packed. Very pleased with all the store purchases except a dvd of Love's labour Lost of kenneth brannagh which did not play on my australian machine.

84, Charing Cross Road was shipped quickly; provider had described the condition of the book accurately, and I would purchase from them again. The book is wonderful! But I already knew that or I wouldn't have bought it. . . . .
