I actually had this book in my Kindle Library for a few months before I finally sat down to read it. And I actually wish I would have read it sooner!! This book is amazing! It is different than other "paranormal" books I have read. The concept of "Rent-A-Kid" is they take these "unwanted" kids/babies with para-powers, and raise them to be spies. They are treated well, so they believe they are doing the right thing. Sam is one of the older kids at the facility so she goes on assignments often, especially with her mind reading abilities, she is very effective at her mission. Once she catches a glimpse of Drake, her world as she knew it changes. The intimacy she has with Drake, without even meeting him in person, is incredible! Sam is now on her own mission to find out the truth about "Rent-A-Kid" and to help rescue her love, Drake. This book is full of action and a few twists and turns that I wasn't expecting. Any lover of YA paranormal books will most definitely love this book!

Really enjoyed this. Fascinating concept, well-conceived characters, brilliant plot twist. it was like reading the X-Men written with a female audience in mind, so much more focus on the emotions and what drives the characters.

Being that the book is free should be hint enough that this won't be a "finger-bitting thrill ride", but I did expect more than what was delivered.

Writing is an art form therefore, each time I pick up a novel (or in this case, a novella since it was so short.) I expect something worthwhile and I can't say I'll remember this beyond tonight.
"Forbidden Minds" begins on a rather interesting premises and the idea captures your attention quite easily. The main protagnists, Sam and Drake, also appear to be enthralling people, but it falls flat as the action is meant to build.
Senseless killing and pointless drama makes the following chapters mush. I was able to skip page after page and not lose a single bit of the plot.
When I reached the end, I had no desire to purchase the next book simply because its predicitable, boring, and while there is a plenty of potential, the author never forms it beyond it's fetal state.
This is what you call a "been-there-done-that" book. The style of writing isn't in my taste and while I wont recommend this to anyone I know, it could be someone else's cup of tea, but it certainly isn't mine.

I really liked this book. It was very well written and I liked the characters a lot. The only thing I didn't like was all the pain the characters endured. If wasn't one thing it was another. Other then that I really enjoyed it.

This book was a complete surprise. I purchased this book during a sale weekend, along with about 20 others. I'm not sure how, but the book was put on the back burner. This weekend, I had a short vacation with so much time to just sit and read. Finally finding my way into this world, I was very surprised. I loved the characters and the concept... a kind of X-Men, from the teen perspective. My one (and only) complaint would be the ending. It was cut short in order to lead you into the next book of the series. While everything in this book was brought to completion, the end just stopped and I wanted to feel it wind down a bit more. That aside, it is still a five-star read. The characters were well formed, the story compelling, and the world rich with danger.

Ms. Kinrade has put together a great story that has a fast paced plot, likeable yet still very real characters and a twist that was fantastic. :) The story revolves around Sam, an 18 year old girl with the ability to read mindds on the verge of adulthood. It's at this point that her whole world gets turned upside down and she takes us along for the ride.

I really enjoyed this story and am eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series! Well done!!!

I literally couldn't stop reading this book. I work long overnight shifts and this book kept me on the edge of my seat and AWAKE! Lol! That's hard to do when you've been awake all day chasing little children. I really love the idea of being able to read people's minds, but this book showed me how it can seriously dampen your outlook on life. Couldn't believe the surprise twist!! My mouth literally dropped open! The main characters are fantastic together. I'm on to the next one!

The storyline had great potential, and the characters were likeable. I did find myself rooting for them, much as I rooted for Jarod in The Pretender and Max in Dark Angel. This was an ok book, a quick read, but definitely not something I'd want to pay money for. I'll see if the library has the next in the sequel, but if not, I'll probably never read the rest. Although I enjoyed the book, I am curious why it won awards, as the writing was not exceptional.

This is the first of three books and, after reading this one, I couldn't wait to read the others. This is geared to young adults but, in my 60 's, I found it quite entertaining. The story takes place in a school for kids with paranormal powers and, although it seems like a perfect place, there's a dark secret underneath. I would definitely recommend this whole series to all ages.
