Frankly, I so regret having spent that much money for this book! If Carolyn Bessette wouldn't have married John Kennedy Jr. we would have never heard about her "love story" with Michael Bergen, right? Clearly, the book has been written for money, nothing else. Theirs was a relationship based on sex and nothing more. Carolyn was mentally unstable and also very superficial, not the main ingredients for a great love story... I had the impression of wasting my time reading that book, it's only banalities IMHO.

I am an avid biography reader. I first assumed that this would by a shallow book about a jaded lover. However, was I wrong. This is truly a love story with such warmth and heartbreak I could not put it down. It also shows you the inside to this girl, Carolyn, who was extremely mentally ill. Incredible!! Who would have known her marriage to Kennedy was such a sham. The girl was VERY confused and married the wrong guy!! WOW!!

I purchased the book because I read an article in a magazine about it and I found interesting the story, besides, I had a huge crush on Michael Bergin back in the nineties !!! It may not win a Nobel Prize of literature but at least you can tell the author was candid and honest, maybe too much...I do not doubt his feelings about Carolyn Bessette and I really think he had the right to express his point of view about their story, but I also think he could have kept a few details for himself. I think the book would have been as interesting as it is without those details. I also found interesting to realize that no matter if you are rich, beautiful and famous...you still can have your heart broken and feel you are living a miserable life.

I really wanted to give Michael Bergin a fighting chance as I started this book but by Page 12 he was done for. Even if you try to overlook the fact that Carolyn Bessette is no longer around to speak for herself, the campy writing and ridiculous scenarios that Mr. Bergin recalls are worse than anything on "Lifetime." For example, he tells us over and over that he and Carolyn would fight and scream and then make love. To get back at Carolyn for going out with John Kennedy Jr, Mr. Bergin picks up an actress and "has wild sex for seven days." Adding to this toxic mess are numerous modeling photos of Mr Bergin in various stages of undress. Yes he is handsome and buffed and chisled but the photos are overkill - almost as if he is prostituting himself for a modeling job. But this book is'nt just poorly written, it's poison-pen journalism at its worst. The last and perhaps greatest insult to Carolyn occurs on the last page where Mr. Bergin had the gall to include a photograph of Carolyn and John Kennedy with the words "Rest In Peace." Indeed !

This is no more than another example of cheap opportunism and self-aggrandizement masquerading as a "tell all" confession. It is not particularly well-written and tells the reader a whole lot more about the writer than he would likely want us to know. He's mainly interested in exploiting his l5 minutes of fame. I borrowed this book from a houseguest, and found it to be just another piece of sleazy junk that I was unable to finish. Don't buy this thing - it's trash.

Out of sick curiosity, I read experts of this "book", when I was in the bookstore. A day later, had the immense displeasure of watching about 15 minutes of the dim-witted Michael Bergin's interview on A&E. This man and his book are absolutely pathetic. Anyone who buys this book is simply contributing to lining the pocket of some small time creep with delusions of grandeur. It's not appropriate to laugh when it's in reference to someone's death, but his description of his "loving" Hawaiian tribute to her death IS laughable and his crocadile tears when describing it, even more so. If he felt and still feels so loving toward her, how about just leaving the poor woman's memory alone instead of trashing her with his sordid "memories" to make a quick buck. As if it's not pathetic enough to try to compare himself to JFK, Jr., he tries convincing us all of Carolyn's intense love. Hearing that his "realization of how much she loved me" was based on the fact that she supposedly broke a window and stomped on his VCR. This is a sign of someone's "love" in this guys mind. Whatever! Kind of makes me want to go take a cold shower! But, I suppose...... a washed up acting "career" and not looking so good in those Calvin Kleins anymore...What's a guy with no moral fortitude left to do to pay his rent? Readers: Please save your money and go buy some lottery tickets or something else a little more worthwhile.

What kind of a shallow, immoral, money-grubbing bottom-feeder would write a book like this, and then have the audacity to call it "a love story"?
Michael Bergin, if your parents are still with us, they should be utterly ashamed of you.
Please don't line this loser's pockets by purchasing this piece of trash. Buy a good book and donate it to an elementary school library instead, so you'll be encouraging young people to grow up with more integrity than this "author".

I would like to ask everyone involved in writing reviews for this book to please be careful about spelling and grammar in your writing.
I think it takes away the credence from your opinion if your thoughts are poorly written.

TV Career never gets off the ground-write a piece of
FICTION about a famous former lover who is conveniently dead and unable to refute the libelous and truly unflattering pictorial of her. This book is trash and the motive is obvious.

What this man did lacks class and reveals his shallow nature. If he honestly cared for Carolyn he would never have dishonored her in the wake of her tragic death...and profit from this shameful book. I can only imagine how she would feel about the writing of this book. Ironic how this books juxtaposes chivalry in the shaming of a "son of Camelot"...Camelot where chivalry was the honor of the day.

I've accidentally (on purpose) read most of the books out there about John Jr. and Carolyn. I lived in New York not too long after they died, and I enjoy reading about them as characters from the pre-9/11, "Sex and the City" version of New York that I fell in love with when I was a girl. I'm talking about the pre-hipster New York City, the glitzy city that was filled with hopes and dreams and amazing parties and limos and cute little dogs named Friday and men who worked on their abs and spent their weekends jogging around Central Park. I realize John and Carolyn were actual people and I understand that their passing was a tragedy for their friends, but in my mind they're just the prince and princess of a fleeting moment in the history of America.

Well, that time has long passed. And Michael Bergin's book sort of ruins that era for my imagination. Instead of telling us about Carolyn he presents her as a mysterious heart breaker who treated him like dirt and manipulated him. And he, of course, is a pure-of-heart hick from the sticks who follows her around like a lost puppy. Suuuuuure.

There's not a lot of gritty stuff here, and the Carolyn I read about in other books probably would have been cracking up reading about the fly-by-night woman at the center of this story. I'm sure she wasn't perfect, but this book is even less perfect.

Don't waste time with hollowed-out bagel; wanna-be rich-and-famous model gets dumped by beautiful jet setter for American prince. Nothing else happens. Not a single<alleged> conversation or interlude worth repeating. Meow is all she said.
