I got this book FREE and still only could get through one of the ten volumes. I was hoping the story would develop into something entertaining. However, I couldn't get past the male bashing. I tried to think of ONE positive attribute of ANY male character in the first book. I couldn’t come up with a single one, apparently neither could this SJW man-hating feminist author. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME unless you enjoy poorly researched apocalyptic stories where every female is a positive role model and the men are incompetent wusses at best, drunks, rapists, pedophiles and very poor fathers at worst.

This series was a very enjoyable read. Lots of action and the characters were well conceived. Normally I tend to pass up books with women authors. Yeah, I know what you're going to say, but just let me say that I was pleasantly surprised. Even written from the female point of view, I thoroughly enjoyed the stories, one of which I had previously read quite a while back. The main lesson I took away from the stories is, you don't wanna get between a mother and her kids, whether it's a four legged one like a bear, or a two legged ones like an architect or a pilot. Also, sometimes it takes a good person with a gun to stop a bad person with a gun. This, coming from a 2nd amendment supporter.

I've read quite a few survival books by male authors painting macho paragraphs of stealth and glory. This feminine touch adds the humane touch to the chaotic aftermath of an EMP. Maybe later books in the series will shed some light on some of my questions; such as, Why doesn't the US bring some of its unaffected planes and armament back from Asia, South America and Europe? Why hasn't an aggressor come in to take advantage of the US during its weak moment? However, it adds new viewpoints to the ever growing question of "What will happen?"
After Dark :: Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World (Rep Tra) (1/31/93) :: Kafka On The Shore (Vintage Magic) by Haruki Murakami (2005-10-06) :: Kafka on the Shore, Vol. 1 :: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain

This was one fantastic series. The story is told in 3 different states in the US with different types of people. In each story there was a strong female hero. A woman under normal circumstances you would never think they could survive in this crazy world that it became after the EMP went off. But these woman were not just fighting for themselves to survive but their loved one to.
Being thrown into a world with no clue how to survive they managed to overcome every obstacle that was before them. But within those obstacles there was still loss of love ones they had to learn to adapt to loss along the way.
I found myself unable to stop reading. The book engaged you to think of how you might be in the same circumstances

While I enjoyed all three stories, I particularly liked the first one. I'm a sucker for kick-ass females in post apocalyptic books, and she was one of the best I've encountered. I did appreciate the strong women characters in the two other books too, but it was the first that really impressed me. Overall, I highly recommend this set and its authors!

Story is well written, only a couple of editing issues. Series is really more of a "soft" apocalyptic version....although touching on many of the premises and events you would expect to occur, I found it lacking more of the gritty depth and hard language. Author does a good job of hashing out her characters and relationships but while adequate I felt they also were just shy of that tip into dynamic. A solid four stars!!! In all I recommend this series of books

My staff and I evacuated over 600 elderly and staff from two communitiies on NOLA's East and West bank for Katrina. Almost half were skilled nursing. Made the decision Friday evening and had everybody out by 2 pm Saturday. Planned for the worst and moved fast with well trained staff. Levees broke Monday and had all residents moved a 2nd time from two school parishes to over 15 locations throughout louisiana by Wednesday noon. Regardless of solid plans, always with at least one fallback, there were many surprises, good and bad, in Systems and people. Well written and realistic snapshot of varied personalities and their behaviors that place them in one of three categories: lamb, wolf or sheepdog.

My favorite is the third, but the other two are good as well.
Three different locations, three different groups struggling to survive. All are well written.
The third is somehow more than the other two. All have strong female leaders. Personalities are well developed and the world’s are authentic.
Definitely a good read. Looking forward to more from this author.

The story is good but either a better editor is needed it a grammar lesson. Love is the past tense of weave, not weaved and me is the objective pronoun not i. For example, they helped Nita and I. Should be me, not i. Also you follow prepositions such as by for, to etc with an objective pronoun (i.e. me him, her, them) not subjective pronouns such as I, she, he, they. I'll give it 4 stars since less is a negative.
Detracts from the flow for me.

This box set lacks any in depth character development making any conflicts feel artifical and forced. I found all the protagonists to be unrealistic and whiney. Not that I have anything against female protagonists but all of the female lead characters were very entitled and hard to sympathize with. On a final note; if you bought this boxset to relish in a prepper fantasy, full of detailed skirmishes and real life firearm cameos- THEN THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. This series feels ignorant at best and and anti prepper at its worst. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SERIES TO A FRIEND. Overall I give this series 2 stars for at least having a lot of material and providing some insight for how the more liberal unprepared side will handle shtf.

A lot of time is spent developing the drama and stress between the lead and her fiance and his family. I quit about half way through. The story line seemed predictable and there was too much emphasis on the stress instead of developing interesting characters. It will keep you on edge, but not in a good way.

My new love of EMP Post Apocalyptic novels has reached another level. Okay, so no spoilers... I can just say (Which is pretty rare- a STORY HAS TO REALLY TOUCH ME) I laughed and "I cried"! Thank you for your creativity and purely amazing talent as a story teller and writer Ms. Alexandria Clarke.

Started out great but by the last story it had become redundant. I felt that it was the same story with different characters. And it really bothered me that the water in their centers never froze even though the temp was below 0 degrees. And no one for frostbite?

Next round, get a real editor.

Some of the stupidest "heroine's" in literature. They got what they deserved.

Goofy spelling. Goofy usages.

Did finish the whole series: "There must be a pony under there somewhere"

Have read quite a few of these apocalyptic stories, but this one was different. Loved the character Georgie! And even though there was violence, the main character Georgie, never lost her humanity. Too many of these stories are so politcally based with the good guys being white, rural, conservatives and city people or liberals are the bad guys. Also many are racist. Thank you for an interesting story that showed that there can be hope and people can care for one another even in horrible conditions. Good job!

I've just finished book 0. It is tightly written, full of character building and setting description. Well developed. I am enjoying the characters and even the peripheral persons are believable.
I'm looking forward to the next books.

I think if this was the first book I ever read about post EMP survival it would have gotten 5 stars. But after reading many others before this one I found the book a little predictable. I guess that is to be expected. All in all I enjoyed reading it and found that the characters were well developed. I would recommend this book to a friend.

Yes, there were some mistakes in this series, but overall, a fantastic read! I could not wait to read "just one more chapter" before putting it down for the night. A mark of a great book - not wanting it to end. Absolutely loved it!!

Over the top characters. Ridiculous situations (example - a few hours into what almost everyone thinks is a power failure and no one knows how widespread it is, people are killing each other over water and there are rape gangs roaming the city - going after 10 year old girls). I don't know that i was able to get thru any of the books.

The complete series, while somewhat connected can be read as stand alone Novels. The writing is fast moving, the storyline cleverly woven and the character solidly developed.
One of the top 5 box sets I have read over the last 3 years!

Enjoyed all the stories in this boxset. I would like a story to follow about what happens next, the rebuilding efforts; whether or not people come together or different communities fight over existing supplies.

Wow. What a great series. I have read many series of post apocolyptic books and thoroughly enjoyed this one. The different characters, the trials and tribulations they went through, and the style of writing. I lost a bit of sleep because I could not stop reading. I highly recommend this series.

I'm not saying that the books contained in this set aren't good, they are. I found that the majority of the set I had already read as individual novels. I did read them again, but they were not as good the second time round.

I thought the books are written well and entertaining. I guess what was a little disappointing was the first 3 books were very similar to the second 3. I still thought they were both good you have a way of making all the characters individual and interesting

I loved the story line and the characters. It had me hooked from the start. I would love to read more of her work. Especially post apocalyptic. Every situation is different. Sad to lose some characters but still good ending.

I loved every story! Each set was complete so it wasn't a bunch of books put together to get you to buy more books. Strong female leads, full of action, really nonstop. Get this if you like survivor, post apocalypse and or EMP.

Well written scenario that could happen at any moment. If implemented, it would send us into a civil war that can only be imagined. Challenge your teen to read this series....won't be able to put it down!!
