Very truthful with a good range of descriptive examples of how BPD'd people act out. The title says it all. It pulled me in and taught me a lot to help me identify and moderate my own symptoms. As BPD'd people heal or learn to manage the condition, the cover of the book is less appealing. I wouldn't change a thing about it, though.

Informative book. Well written and focused, it describes the behavior, and treatment for "borderline personality disorder". It is not hard to read, and by describing cases of individuals, you can get a very clear sense of the world of someone with this disorder.

Good information and concrete examples. The start was pretty boring and clinical. After the first 50 pages, it was informative and much better reading. It started me thinking about some of the "angry, impulsive, always in crisis' types I have dealt with in my career field over the years. It seems likely I have known more than one...recommended reading if this is an issue or just like learning in this field.

This book is well written, easy to understand, and very much geared towards the lay person.

From a personal standpoint, it has been incredibly helpful and informative, and I have found great solace in it. Knowing that there is a reason for some of the crazy behaviours that used to make me question my sanity, has brought a greater sense of acceptance and peace... not so much internal battling that I'm mad and I'm a bad person because of it. Love it; bought it for several friends, who have also found great meaning, affinity and relief from it.

I don't imagine it's for everyone, but if the title of the book resonates with how you feel, it's for you... and it's also probably for everyone in your life who loves you.

As a relationship consultant and educator working with the partners of high-conflict people, I particularly enjoy reading--in this case, re-reading--well-defined scenarios and competent descriptions. I recommend this book!

Well written and easily explains the nature of this disorder. Of most helpfulness is the chapter which teaches one how to communicate with a person that suffers from this disorder. Although they do state their own opinions here and there, he does provide a lot of scientific references. It is written in a form that can be understood by everyone.

This book literally changed the relationship between my adult daughter and I. We had need fighting for years and once I understood the disorder it allowed me to help her get into a stable place in her life. I recommend this book to all family members of anyone suffering.

Knowledge is Power and this book helps people understand the difference between BPD and other mental problems, I have a TBI and suffer from PSTD all together and this is a great book to see just how closely you come to be a BPD and how to help your self

Many have tried, but none come close to this book about Borderline Personality Disorder. Filled with case studies and science to back it up, this book remains the "go-to" book when looking to understand the individual who has the disorder.

This is absolutely the best book on Borderline Personality. It describes it perfectly and brings a clearer understanding to the disorder. If you have recently been diagnosed as BPD or if you are a therapist, I strongly recommend taking the time to read this. Also, would be great for families members of those that suffer with BPD. It would help you understand your family member better and would help you out of a lot of conflict perhaps. It is a great read. Also, very interesting how much it is better understood now than in the late 1980's.

While this book is primarily for the professional mental health clinician, many can benefit from the reading of it. It covered every possible aspect of BPD, including various treatments. A plethora of case examples illustrated a wide variety of BPD presentations. I highly recommend it!

Very helpful information on the borderline personality disorder that is easy to understand. I thought it was great. It helps me understand relatives with this disorder. However, the information on coping with this disorder was disappointing.

Incredibly helpful for me to grasp what BPD is like for different people. I'm a caregiver with a client with BPD, and was unfamiliar with how to handle tough interactions with her. This book actually has a very helpful way to address issues with confrontations (which crop up a lot more than I had thought at first). The SET-UP method encompasses a tri-fold way of compassionately recognizing and addressing problems of people with BPD while maintaining 'reality' (truth, or not contributing to whatever delusion the person is convinced of at the time). I wish it integrated DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) more, but that's ok, there's other things published that go into detail on DBT.Great readability for both laymen and not very boring for someone who's a lot more versed in abnormal psych as well.

I am a professional therapist, I typically struggle with treating BPD as they can be complicated to treat. This book has provided easy to understand and easy to apply knowledge and skills. I would recommend this book to family and frineds of folks with BPD as well as professionals. Very easy to read and very informative.

I was recently diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, and this book helped my family and me understand it better. I highly recommend this for anyone living with or anyone diagnosed with this disorder. It helps you see it from an outside view and makes you aware of things you do that are typical for a Borderline. If you recognize these little things, you can stop them before they go any further. We can be cured, but knowledge gives power, so read this! It saved me.

Having witnessed firsthand the ravages of someone with BPD, this is the first book I've read that captures your interest and attention almost immediately, and expresses the entire matter in terms that those of us who are not "health care professionals" can understand, RELATE TO and LEARN FROM.

Unlike other books that discuss the affliction and leave you feeling a little confused, this one hits the mark.

One small nit - the quality of both the paper used and print itself leaves a lot to be desired. Looks like it was printed using a 10 year old inkjet with a bad black cartridge - in fairness, you CAN read all of the words. Perhaps I just got a "Monday morning" copy...

Was recommended by our therapist to try to help us understand the unique needs and challenges of our son. While I do not think of it as an end all, be all I do not find that the text is irrelevant at all. There are probably more in-depth books out there. But, as an entree into the world of borderline personalities...it does a very good job.
