This workbook is a good basic book with both problems and the answers. It is helpful. I found the workbook problems a little more difficult then the actual textbook but I think that will be helpful in the long run to make you stretch your thinking of the concepts.

We like the way this workbook teaches Algebra I. My daughter is a language based learner and this workbook explains things in a way she finds easy. BUT pages 157-204 are missing. They were replaced with duplicates of pages 205-250. So I have some pages two times and I am missing many pages.

UPDATE: the store mailed me another copy of the book. Same addition but without the missing/duplicated pages. Thank you the store

RECOMMENDATION: This book is great for a language based learner who learns easily. This book does not provide enough practice for someone who needs repetition to learn.

The workbook was still very straightforward just like the book. However I wasn't as impressed. It doesn't really feel like a workbook. I didn't feel like it was a companion to the regular book like i expected. Still very helpful. Would reccomend one or the other. Both are unnecessary

This book was purchased to brush up on some algebra in order to take a Physics exam for a teaching credential. I must say it is nice cause it is a book you can carry around with you and work on anytime. However, for more bang for your buck I would log on to the KHAN ACADEMY and practice math problems....

I am not ordering anymore of the FOR DUMMIES math series after making a profile on Khanacademy.com.

This is a very handy workbook for anyone who wants to review their Algebra skills. It’s geared towards providing users with practice problems and would be ideal if you’ve already taken an Algebra course in the past and wish to refresh your memory on performing the various problem-solving operations, or if you’re a student currently taking Algebra I and wish to get some extra practice in a particular area that you’re covering in class. The bottom line is that you really need to have another means of learning the material first (either with a class you’re taking or that you’ve taken before, or with a companion book) to get the most out of this workbook.

The workbook is broken up into 5 parts (4 parts that focus on practice problems related to concepts and properties, and a final part that deals with common errors and quick tips). There is a table of contents at the beginning if you want to jump to questions related to a particular concept. There are also answers to the workbook questions at the end of each chapter. What I found most helpful were the example questions and answers in each chapter that guide you through solving example problems.

On its own, this Algebra I Workbook For Dummies merits 5 stars as it does exactly what it’s meant to do, provide the user with lots of practice with Algebra I problems to strengthen and build abilities and confidence with the subject matter. An added bonus is that on the inside cover of the book, you will receive a PIN that gives you access to their website where you can create online quizzes related to the workbook’s 4 concept chapters. After revealing the PIN (under a scratch off cover), go to their website and look for “Have a book PIN? Activate Now” on the lower right of the homepage photo. You then enter the name of your book, your PIN, and create an account. Then you can access a page that allows you to Create a Quiz, access the Shows TIme Spent, and can also give you your Quiz History. So if you don’t want to carry the book around and want some extra online practice with the subject matter during the day, you can simply log on and get a few problems under your belt. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their Algebra I skills.

This is an Algebra 1 workbook, not a study guide. Do not purchase this if you've never taken an algebra course. Although it can be used as a refresher, it's not the best choice if your last exposure to algebra was a decade or more ago. It includes sparse explanations and doesn't go anywhere near as in-depth as the typical study guides. The main goal of this book is to reinforce learning and understanding through practice problems. It's not suitable for initially learning algebra but is great for practicing what you've already learned or helping improve in challenging areas. Dummies sells a separate study guide that teaches the principles much more in-depth and is much better suited for initial learning or refreshing after a long period. This book is best suited for someone already studying algebra who needs a little extra practice or help getting over the hump. It's a great guide for school aged students studying algebra 1 and has tons of practice problems and quizzes. It also includes a unique PIN to unlock additional resources online. There is practice for most of the content covered in algebra 1. It has practice exercises for working with expressions, solving equations, solving word problems and graphing among others. There are also tips provided or simplifying and solving problems. The material does a good job helping students of algebra 1 as well as 1A and 1B.

One of my biggest regrets in life - right up there with not learning to play the piano as a child - is not having progressed towards higher mathematics in high school. I showed tremendous aptitude in high school for math, but I allowed a dislike for a teacher and a personality conflict to stand in my way. Being realistic, I am doubtful that my old brain, which lacks the elasticity it had when a teen, and I doubt that I will be able to master calculus as I once hoped. But I like to at least go back over the rudiments of algebra and geometry and for that these books are great. I highly recommend these either for adults like myself who want a refresher or for teens wanting to get a head start on their classmates in learning algebra while in high school.

For context: This book was reviewed by an experienced middle school teacher with a certification in math.

"Algebra I Workbook For Dummies" clearly describes concepts with multiple examples, including accurate "how to" steps and notes. I like that they included tips and possible traps. There is even a chapter of the ten most common errors. The book has an adequate number of practice problems with answers. It has a several different Table of Contents and a thorough Index. This is a good book to use to understand Algebra 1.

Offers hundreds of problems for practice to cement the principles of Algebra through repetition. Excellent for home schooling or just brushing up on concepts I hadn't used or revisited for decades but wanted to review before a Mensa test. Be aware that this is a Workbook to practice, not an instruction textbook. If you need to learn the beginning explanation and concepts of Algebra 1, you'd be better served getting the Dummies book specifically designed for that and not this practice workbook, first.

This is a great review and practice workbook. It's well organised and has plenty of practice problems with clearly written explanations for their answers. I tutor Algebra I students and this has been an invaluable resource both for its exercises and step by step presentation. If you haven't taken Algebra this won't teach the subject to you, but if you're struggling or it's just been a while this will be an excellent resource.

This book is great. My son was struggling with Algebra and it has helped alot. My daughter had already taken Algebra but the school didn't cover some of the basics and she enjoyed the book and gained insight as well. Service was very fast for the price of standard. Thank You.
