I love her books! Her characters are so real, Peter Decker is a wonderful, flawed man, just trying to make sense out life; understand who he is spiritually, have a relationship with the woman he loves & fight crime! Rena Lazarus is a woman caught between 2 worlds. Watching their relationship develop as Peter fights crime is a wonderful read

I love this series of books. The people seem real and you learn a little about the Jewish Religion. there is also a good mystery involved. I suggest you start by reading the first book in the series since the story line of the main characters will continue throughout the books.

This well-written page-turner was a refreshing change from the usual. It makes the reader eager to read the other books in the series to find out what evolves next in the characters' lives. An excellent mystery series.

I have been reading Faye Kellerman books for years. I don't know how I missed this one since it's about the beginning of Peter and Rina's relationship. Great read. Recommend to everyone who loves detective/murder mysteries!

Really enjoying Faye Kellerman series featuring Decker/Lazurus. Should be read in order. The main characters are interesting and believable and the enveloping mysteries and cases are always very well developed. The Jewish connection running through the stories is fascinating to me, an education, adding for me a extra reason to keep reading. I'm on #6 in the series and I believe there are 24 total. It's like you hate for a good book to end, but in this case ..just start the next one and happily keep reading!

Too much emphasis on the religious studies and brooding of Decker. I skimmed over it all because the criminal case was interesting. The thing is, we all know that Rina and Decker get married and she is the most understanding wife in the world. I mostly like this series and am catching up on the earlier chapters, but sometimes the book drags with all the soul-searching.

The story line itself is good. The detail regarding converting and the history of the Jewish religion I found overwhelming in the beginning. I almost gave up because of the level of detail - really seemed to sidetrack from the mystery. But I didn't stop - continuing and pleased that I did. There is one scene with very graphic description of snuff porn that I can't get out of my head which is why I'm only giving the book three stars. The story could have been told without the specifics.

Kellerman's novel was very suspenseful novel and kept me guessing how it would end. A novel I couldn't put down. I enjoy how she develops the love life of Decker and always have to read the next novel to see how his relationship develops. She has wonderful subplots. A perfect novel to read when traveling.

Decker and Laazarus are a great team, enjoy reading about their connection to each other and how they make it work, his detective skills are interesting to read and try to figure out the case as he goes along

As always, this Faye Kellerman was excellent. What would have made it better was that I had not already read it. I read the excerpt but it didn't sound totally familiar, so I bought it. Evidently my pleas to put the copyright date on the listing for the books fall on deaf ears. There goes my book budget for this month!

This second book in the Peter/Rina series was better than the first book. I purchased this as a Kindle book which was more than the paperback. It had several typos. Really? We pay this much for an ebook and it has typos? I was going to purchase additional books by this author but I am rethinking that now.

kind of schizophrenic, at first you are not sure if you are reading a crime novel or a primer on religion, specifically hasidism. The pace picks up but it still seems like two books and then it all comes together and you are greatfull for the details that the author puts into the book. It has a lot of good relationship discussions to salt the mine with at home and an exciting ending. It is worth the time to read this book.

I liked the detective part of the book finding out who the two girls were from their
bones found in the forest. I didn't like the part where the detective was learning
about the Jewish religion. I didn't understand all of the words they used in his
learning about this religion. In conclusion the writer didn't tell us if the cop was
going to marry his girlfriend who was Jewish.

Excellent continuation of the series. I love the look inside a culture and set of beliefs different than my own. I've been so wrapped up in reading the book on my daily commute, that I've almost missed my bus stop a few times.

I have mixed feelings about Kellerman's books. I've read two now. I won't be reading anymore of her work. It isn't that she's not a good writer...I think her plots are decent, I like her background stories about her two protagonists who are both Jews and I love the information about the Jewish culture and religion. I enjoy good mysteries and crime procedurals. But the combination of violence, sex, and crude language is way too much for me. I'm sure in the 'real' world of cops, they probably speak like this...that doesn't mean I have to fill my mind with this crap. I read a lot of history, biographies, science books because I'm a professor, and every once in a while I like to grab a good mystery for fun. I didn't consider finishing Kellerman's books 'fun'...it was a chore. (I have this thing about finishing the books I read unless they are absolutely beyond redemption). I can see that she is a popular writer and she won't miss one fan...but other readers who feel as I do and want to be warned about certain things like violence, sex, and crude language in books (like in movies) hopefully will see my review and can be steered away from buying this before it is too late.
