I bought the trilogy after watching the series on PBS. The series and books were recommended by a family member. I truly enjoying the books. I have recommended them to my friends and family. I plan on buying the fourth book, also.

These books are fantastic! All honesty I don't even like reading! Haha I only got them because of the TV series and now I can't out them down! Only disappointment is that they didn't come in the trilogy box like the picture.

every woman of any age ought to read these books. to fully understand the battle women have had to face to be seen as human, not livestock. it is critical in these days of 'equality' that we understand the muck we had to climb out of to be where we are today and see how far we have yet to go. I read all three books in 4 days and am reading them again. I am old enough to remember when many things were not available to us women.

This is a wonderful set of historical memorabilia. It is written so engagingly that it is hard to put down and goes beyond midwives to give a comprehensive view of London's tenements, the people who lived there, the poor house and the development of midwifry. We have come a long way in a short time.

This review is on the company I purchased the books from, or tried that is. "Read All About It Books" sent me a bottle of tree tea oil. I guess I should find the humor in a book store sending my aromatherapy oil, but its an inconvenience to have to return this to the UPS store.

I could not put down these books. My mom recommended them and I started to read them to please her. Once i got started though, I was hooked. Mom was right! Jennifer Worth is an amazing storyteller and her characters come to life. I was sad when I finished the third book. And I don't even like to read. Call the Midwife was a remarkable memoir that will leave you excited to read the non-fiction stories Farewell to the East End and Shadows of the Workhouses.

I requested these books for my birthday and my dear husband got them for me. I enjoyed them, and recognized many of the stories from the television series. The author does a good job of bringing the reader into the circumstances of the time and place she has written about. There were a few tales that seemed to me to go on for too long. They could easily have been shortened up a bit. Overall, though, very interesting reading, but more the kind of books I will pass on to a friend than the kind I will keep and treasure.

Really enjoyed these books and have shared them with friends. However, I haven't finished Shadows of the Workhouse as of yet because it was just too depressing. I may pick it up at a later date. Despite that it was still a good buy. The stories are fascinating and if you already enjoy the show, you will enjoy the books as well.

Loved these books -- it extended the TV series for me. Hard to believe these are all true stories, but they are. It's quite the glimpse into a difficult but not-so-long-ago era. The midwives were (are are) awesome.

I purchased all four of these books in this series and read them eagerly, having totally loved the TV series. 98% of the time I prefer reading the book over watching the movie, but in this case I don't. As an author, Jennifer Worth writes well, but the content of these books includes material not suitable for children or teens. In fact, some adults would consider them "R"- rated.

I requested these books for Christmas and am terribly disappointed! This review may seem harsh and unfair considering the circumstances, but I feel like I should say something... I was scanning the first book prior to reading them and came upon a lurid R-rated bar scene as well as several instances of taking the Lord's name in vain. If I came upon these things just lightly scanning a few pages who knows what else is in there?! I plan to pitch them, because I don't feel they are fit for me to read and I don't want to return them and allow them to pollute someone else's mind. Maybe those are the words people used in real life, maybe those are real happenings; but some things are not worth repeating!
