This book should be a prerequisite for any girl coming of age in North America. It resonates through the decades and perfectly illustrates what it's like to be a preteen girl. It is a novel that will maintain it's relevance long after most of us are gone. If you have lived in North America in the last forty years, are interested in the female experience, and want a realistic portrayal to read, this is it.

Judy Blume was my first favorite author.
This was the first really really good YA book I read as a pre-teen that addressed real issues faced by pre-teens, teens, & young adults.
It blew my mind when I read it in the late 80's & remember thinking that I had never read anything like it before.

I loved reading Tails of the Fourth grade Nothing when I was in 4th back in the school year of 78/79. I am almost 50 and I still love reading it. I have read it to all of my nieces and nephews. I have also purchased Tails of the Fourth grade Nothing for all ten of my great nieces and nephews. They will all receive one as they each approach the 4th grade.

The is just something magical in the way elementary kids listen to these books of Judy Blume. Reading a chapter a day is a good way to introduce third and fourth graders to chapter books. These just seem to charm children.

I bought this to have in my collection of children's books. I of course had read it as a young girl, but I read it again when it arrived and remembered why it is such a classic. Every young girl should read this book!

When you have third and fourth graders that need to study authors that write multiple stories, these are a great choice. They are wonderful for parents to purchase for their children to read as well. It is a great price. As always, I was very satisfied with my purchase.

Continues to be a timeless classic which girls today can learn from. A good lesson/reminder about human behavior, the ups and downs of friendship and growing up. Read it after many decades to pass on to my daughter.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was not long & boring. I just wished we were able to learn what happened to some of the characters. It left me with a lot of questions rather than answers. However I guess that's what happens with YALit...lol

This book was written for 6th grade girls, but much older "girls" will love the memories it evokes. The reason it was controversial when published is that it deals with menstruation (imagine!), but it deals with so much more: family, religion, ethics. Well and wittily written.

Actually it is my eldest (12-year-old) granddaughter who loves this. When I called my daughter to ask her about books for the kids, she told me my granddaughter's class was studying this book and she was having to check it out from the school or public library when she needed it. When she called Christmas day my granddaughter told me the same story and gushed through the phone that she wouldn't have to do that anymore because "NOW, I have my OWN copy!!" That gets five stars from me too!
